  1. Worked well for me on Friday evening. Howling gales and high tide meant the sea was too rough for the geese to roost on and with no mud flats they fly along the sea wall looking to roost on the fields. Only 25 yards up and thousands of them, stopped at 4 as like shooting fish in a barrel. I don’t think they could even hear my wee 32 gram loads going off!
  2. John forsey has a zabala that meets all your spec for£450
  3. Ok, I have done a bit more rough n ready pattern testing with improved results. I managed to get 74 hits in the 30 " circle using the eley steel no 3 with the same barrel that I used before and only managed 35! Out of curiosity I also tried the following all at 40 yards 1) Same AYA Yeoman and the open barrel 32 grm remington steel, only 58 hits in 30 inch circle 2) 32grm Eley steel through a quarter choked barrel on a AYA No 3 82 hits and a nice pattern 3) Gamebore 36grm steel through AYA no 3 quarter choke, a tight pattern and 120 hits. So in conclusion the Eley Steel 32 grm load is just about okay through the open barrel of my AYA Yeoman with 74 hits at 40 yards
  4. My pattern testing is rough and ready to get a feel for the pattern and is certainly not rigorous or scientific as it was just one shot with each barrel. I will fire a couple more with the open barrel when I get a chance to see if the result is any different. 8shots pattern is interesting, surely in theory with a half choke he should have got way more than 48 pellets in the circle out of the 160 or so in the load. What’s going on here??? yes the gun kills geese and indeed how many do I need to shoot each season, I could go plastic semi auto 3.5 chamber and drop a heap more but I enjoy the challenge of getting under them when they are low enough for a 32grm load and shooting with a gun that is a joy to hold and swing. When it comes together it’s great, 12 foreshore pinks last week but a blank week prior to that. A better pattern in the first barrel would give I believe more consistent dead in the air kills which is what I need as any bird that planes off is always a challenge to pick.
  5. I cut one open and it had a count of 163 pellets which isn’t the 178 it should be?
  6. Stonepark, I was using the link below and arriving at 178 pellets in a 32 gram load of no 3 steel. I will cut one open tomorrow and do a count! http://shotshell.drundel.com/pelletcount.htm
  7. Wymberley, I didn’t know you could “put choke” back into a barrel once it has been removed! I have now googled the recess/jug choke thing and am enlightened. Teagues may be a tad expensive for my £150 gun😊 I shall try some gamebore plastic wad 32 gram no 4 to see how they pattern and then if there is still no improvement I guess it will be some experimental reloading, I should be able to beg borrow and steal a few bits for testing as I don’t currently home load. thanks to all for the advice.
  8. I have an AYA Yeoman side by side, chambered at 70 mm. I like to use it for the geese so currently use eley eco steel 32 gram no 3. Through the full choke barrel at 40 yards I get e very respectable 90 pellets in a 30 inch circle. However the previous owner had the choke taken out on the other barrel to something very open as I only get a dismal 35 pellets in the 30 inch circle at 40 yards with this barrel. It does kill geese but I would like to get a better pattern out of it. So here is the question, if I were to homeload a 32grm no 3 steel load could I just not split the wad so much to improve the pattern to compensate for the lack of choke? I appreciate it would take a bit of fine tuning to work out how far down to split the wad but in principle will I get a significant increase in pellet count in the 30 inch circle? Also, does anyone know if by just using a factory cart with a plastic wad as opposed to eleys eco wad I would get an improved pattern or is eleys eco wad as good as a plastic wad when it comes to pattern density? cheers flipper
  9. It’s been a while coming but I finally got under them this morning having had a couple of blanks. I was thinking of going to the dark side and getting a semi auto but the local gun shop has no Armsans in stock so took the old AYA Yeoman out and what a result. Shot with a variety of carts, 1 to a very expensive bismuth no 4 , 2 to some Remington steel no2 32 gram and 1 to Eley eco steel 32 gram no 3, all 2.75 inch carts, who needs a 3.5 mag😀 Dog did a good retrieve from the sea as well. Stopped at the four and watched the rest, a morning to remember.
  10. Good to see your posts again Boyd, always a good read!
  11. Interesting as my season is pretty much the same. Doing well on the ducks for a change but Pink numbers are variable up here at the moment and while last year I couldn't get away from the geese, where ever I went there were geese over me like I was some goose magnet, this year they have been giving me the run around. Like you I had a farce of a flight Wed morning, just getting into position and a single came over at ok height, gun still in slip. Geese then flighted all around me but not over me so the old brain battle of should I move or not started and despite my years at it and knowing better and that it's **** law that if you move 5 mins latter a skein will go over your old spot at 20 yards up! So no shots and it's not looking good so I am glasssing the mud to see what geese are left out there and silently from no where I catch a dozen pinks 20 yards up just passing over me while I am glassing the mud, some cursing there. A blank again! My time will come! Cheers
  12. Nice to hear from you 6.5x55SE, hope your season is going well. Thanks to all for the replies, I will purchase!
  13. I was thinking of getting a black synthetic Armsan a612 semi but am concerned that the black barrel will rust as I Wildfowl a lot. Does anyone have any feedback on how they hold up against the elements?
  14. Was out on the shore this morning and definitely plenty of new pigeons about, large flocks and bunches of 12 to 20 flighting high up all over the place ( north Scotland)
  15. Anyone got a Yildiz Wildfowlers SxS 3.5 inch chamber model? If so what is the recoil like if your fire a 3.5 inch steel factory cart? I find a 3.5 inch cart through a pump gun quite a battle so guess it is much the same with the side by side??? Cheers
  16. Shaky, I got Gamebore Mammoths in Grahams on Saturday, 3 and 3.5 inch in stock.............don't buy them all! Cheers
  17. My local gunshop now charges over £1 a cart for Gamebore 42grm steel No 1. I remember the days when you could buy a hevi shot cart for less than that! How much very roughly could I reload a TSS goose load for? It would be for foreshore shooting at flighting pinks and greys. Over £1 a cart for steel seems a bit excessive, the 36grm Gamebore load was 55p a pop. Cheers Flipper
  18. Funny you should mention that as I saw my first bunch this afternoon also heading north past Inverness!
  19. Heated seats are great, have those in my current Mitsubishi ASX. I have had a bad back on and off like most do and it would usually sort itself after a week or so. However since Sept 1st 2020 it has never recovered, lower back pain left side around SI joint and across to hip bone. Some times it moves to the right side but only for half a day or so. I drive trucks half the week and do manual handling of loads. Car is sore and sore to get in and out of truck not to bad. Seen 2 NHS physios, 1 private physio and 2 chiropractors and still it's knackered. I can still work but have top be careful and there is always niggling pain Apart from that I am fit and healthy\active. Did 2 months of NHS physio program, 30 min am and 30 min pm 6 days a week, zip all result. Tried Mackenzie stuff but that made my mid section sore. Now doing McGill big 3, do 20 birdogs each side hold each one for 10 secs, 20 side planks each side hold for 10 again and 20 curl ups. Two weeks on that but no change. The annoying thing is on 3 occasions something has "popped" or moved in my back and it has made an instant improvement but it doesn't last. Twice it moved while I was just cruising down the A9 in a truck and the first time when I went for a run. Not sure what moves but it's not painful just a sudden quick jolt that starts in the lower back or sacrium and you feel it down the thigh bone.!
  20. Thanks for the feedback so far Centrepin, I replacement seat may help a bit but I find the problem is the geometry of the seat\steering wheel\pedals in cars. Proper Vans and HGVs have a much more sit up and beg driving position with your legs bent at 90 degress (or there abouts) at the knee and the thigh level with the hip bone if that makes sense! Any one tried the Peugeot Partner?
  21. Time and abuse has caught up with my back which is making standard car driving positions somewhat painful whatever setting I have the seat\wheel at. Vans, eg transit, transporter etc are far more comfortable for me as they have a better driving position. Does anyone know of any cars\MPVs etc that may have a van like driving position? Cheers Flipper
  22. We bought front seat covers and boot liners for Mitsubishi Outlander and asx from rhino, all good stuff.
  23. Rhino make good stuff http://www.rhinoukbootlinersltd.co.uk/
  24. From a members point of view it’s good. however from the club admin side of things it seems a lot more work. As it stands we know that all members have a full years insurance as we enrol them with basc. Under the new system there would be multiple membership categories to offer members which requires more work and admin. Also how do we police members insurance? If a member joins and says he has insurance through another club we can check it via basc but if it only has say 6 months left on it how do we remember to check the guy is still insured in 6 months time, a lot of hassle, admin and possibly un insured members???
