  1. My exterior walls are stone, faced on the inside with plasterboard. My gun cabinet is in a walk-in cupboard fixed to the plasterboard with toggle-type cavity bolts. I can't pull it away, and I've not had an FEO question it.
  2. Whatever you get as your first gun the chances are you'll be changing it before too long, that's the way it goes. If you spend £600 on a used Miroku/Beretta - must be in good nick of course - you'll get most or all of that back when you change. You won't with a 'budget' gun. I would also say don't be put off if a gun is fixed choke, you'll get used to whatever patterns it throws. Stay safe, have fun, try to get more new shooters on board.
  3. I had a 9mm shottie many years ago. It made a horrendous bang inside a building, and I am sure those cartridges were much more powerful than an airgun, to judge by the effect on targets.
  4. I got my vet to sign my SGC renewal.
  5. Texts and emails are just too easy to send in the heat of the moment, not like a letter you can write and then leave on the mantelpiece while you decide whether to post it.
  6. Just found this thread so a bit late with a reply, but I have to say that is a bloody good offer from Neil, outstanding! If everybody was that decent about introducing new people to their branch of shooting then maybe we wouldn't all be skulking around waiting for what we've got left to be banned. Really, really impressed, well done that man.
  7. I can tell anyone who's close enough to collect that it is virtually impossible to but a new Hushpower, I've been trying for weeks.

Hanratty's DNA was found on Valerie Storie's clothing when the test was available, there is no doubt of his guilt. Bentlet was 19 at the time of the crime.
  9. Spot on. Dead men tell no tales.
  10. They sure can, assuming it's single barrel. Saddlery & Gunroom offer them fully moderated or with the 9" moderator fitted. To fit to an existing gun needs a gunsmith unless you've machining facilities, but it's not a big job.
  11. Think you've been given good advice here! Go for it.

    dangerous

The Dangerous Posts Acts (2008) makes it risky to venture into this thread, but what the hell. Dogs my wife and I have had. B&W Mongrel Staffs x 2 Airedale Bulldog Above all now gone, loved them all to pieces. At present a Boxer. I loved your post Jim, your first paragraph is brilliant - but whereas I believe every dog owner should be held rigidly responsible for caring properly for the animal and ensuring it is never a nuisance or danger, I really think my choice of dog is up to me, and I would still think that if I wanted an American Bulldog. BTW, I do not think any small child should be left alone with any dog, a child is helpless if things get out of hand. All those who want to jump on me about how terrific their dog is with tiny tots will be right, probably. But in those few cases where they are wrong there is tragedy, and we hear about it from time to time in the media.
  13. Sound about right. Retail operations are notoriously poor employers, they will not be generous. The rates paid by shops are usually below the official household poverty line of £16492. National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2007 * Workers aged 22 and over - £5.52 per hour * Workers aged 18-21 - £4.60 per hour * Workers aged 16-17 - £3.40 per hour New National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2008 * Workers aged 22 and over - £5.73 per hour * Workers aged 18-21 - £4.77 per hour * Workers aged 16-17 - £3.53 per hour
  14. There is more of a point against meat-eaters who are horrified by the idea of killing things, ie the majority of the population, the vegans are at least being consistent. I would not think there is a strong case to made that vegans would starve without shooting, crops were cultivated long before guns were developed.
  15. There's a real old farmer along the road from me who has one and I see him crossing very hairy hillsides in it. They are very good, if it's big enough then you get one.
