  1. I don't have a recall problem he comes in very well to the recall whistle. He retrieves dummies well but will not bring them right to hand, he just runs around with it about an arms length away and just seems to show off with it. I have tried backing off from him, crouching right down so as not to be intimidating but nothing seems to get him closer than that arms length away, it's very fustrating. I have always been very careful to never snatch anyhthing from the dog as I know this can cause problems, so I'm really not sure how to proceed. Ade
  2. Just need a few pointers if anyone has any. I have a 5 month old cocker whichI have been training using Joe Irving's book. He is a keen retriever and I have only been giving him one or two retrieves every other day. Recently he has taken to not bringing the dummy back to hand, instead he seems to play with it and seems reluctant to bring it in to hand. Does any one have any suggestions as to cure this problem or will he just grow out of it as he gets older? Cheers for any help Ade

    Creosote

All, Just found the answer to my own question on the HSE website, looks like it was banned in 2003!! Quote from the HSE "This means that, as of 30 April 2003, retailers are no longer able to sell creosote to the general public, and as of 30 June 2003, the general public are no longer able to use wood preservatives that contain creosote/coal tar creosote. Where retailers still have stocks of amateur use creosote products after 30 April, they should contact their supplier in the first instance, or their local waste regulatory authority. If members of the public have creosote after the 30 June 2003 they should contact their local council for advice on disposal." Ade

    Creosote

Just need a bit of help. Now I know you can no longer buy creosote unless you are a farmer or contractor and buy gallons of the stuff. But my question is, are you still able to use it on domestic fencing, if you are lucky enough to have some knocking around. I.e. it's not illegal or anything? Thanks Ade
  6. Just a thought, why not buy the bits you need and make one yourself for the personal touch? It's not that difficult, if I can do it any one can. Ade
  7. All, A couple of pics of my 13 wk old cocker pup Ade
  8. All, Went out yesterday for a few hours on the rape stubble with my brother and the two boys. We managed 20 but lost 2, one in the wood and one in standing wheat. A good day out and both the lads enjoyed themselves, the youngest has never been before and seemed to enjoy it. (Not sure about a yellow T shirt for cammo but there you go!) Ade

  10. My old chap has a live catch trap he puts by his bird table and just uses bird nuts in it. He must be close to 30 squirrels now, he had another 2 on Saturday. Don't worry about transferring them to a sack to dispatch them, just shoot them in the trap with your air rifle, (tip it on its end so they have less room to run up and down) much less chance of getting bitten!! Ade
  11. Seen this on another forum, voted in favour of course!! This needs more support even though we are on the winning side at the moment!! Ade
  12. Not sure what you mean by 'slot on cert' if it's just a 3 shot it can be held on a shotgun certificate with no slot required or am I misreading this somehow?? Ade
  13. That was a great read Andy, well done Ade
