Definitely a can of worms, I have had a couple of Pac_Nor super match barrels in my rifles and this is their advice http://pac-nor.com/care/ does it make a difference? I have no idea, but I cant see it hurting. Wipeout is excellent stuff.

We used to sell them in a shop I worked in, along with Browning, Sako, Winchester, Ruger, Savage, Marlin etc. etc. The 770 is I'm afraid cheap for a reason. If you are spending that kind of money I would buy a Savage. They might be butt ugly, but they shoot really well. The 770 is a waste of money but its your money to waste at the end of the day. I would go to a shop and try handling one yourself.

I have one, its a lovely gun, but I haven't shot it enough to pass judgement on reliability.

What that analysis fails to take into account though is that the bullet is no longer rotating about its axis. The reason for the whine is the bullet is tumbling and therefore the ballistic coefficient in that chart is invalid. If the 30gr bullet is still moving at 100fps that's under a ftlb of energy it wont be airborne for long.

It would be interesting to try a set of headspace gauges on the rifle. It looks to me like excessive headspace leading to case separation. The Hornet has pretty thin brass and it doesn't take much to cause problems. It shouldn't have been sold in that condition as its potentially pretty dangerous. I would demand a full refund.

Britain isn't part of Schengen so relaxing the visa requirements wont make any difference as its only applicable to Schengen. Turkey as far as I am aware is still a visa mandatory country for the UK. Though letting Turkey int the EU is an insane idea in my view. BTW as Turkey is an "accessionary" country then Turks can apply for special business visa entry clearance. Bulgarian and Romanians used turn up with these. Their "business" would involve little more than a mop and a bucket, but it satisfied the EU rules and immigration couldn't refuse them. If the EU gets its way it wont be a few hundred thousand gimmegrants streaming across the borders it will be tens of millions. You might want to bear this in mind if we ever get a vote on remaining members of the EU.

One factor leading to an increase in fly tipping is as result of EU directives on waste disposal. Councils are restricted under threat of legal action in the volume of waste they can dispose of in landfill. To limit the amount of waste that goes into landfill they have put up prices for trade waste. Unscrupulous people (no names, no pack drill) get shot of their waste in this manner to avoid the charges. I am no fan of landfill, but this doesn't seem to have been thought through too well.

Waste of money in my view. You can get pretty close with bore sighting.

They also used O rings on the Space Shuttle solid fuel rocket boosters. Remind me again how that worked out!

As Exudate says Formalhedye is pretty nasty stuff. I would sooner try Shropshire Sam's approach (above) of using Borax.

I would still get it screw cut for a moderator. It does make for less grief with neighbours. If you subsequently sell the rifle will be more desirable in my view if it can be fitted with a moderator. There is also the time and expense for a variation if you dont get it now and subsequently change your mind.

Assuming these are the nickel plated brass they can be reloaded, but I have seen reports where people claimed that flakes of nickel scratched their dies. I have reloaded some nickel plated brass in the past without any problems but your mileage may vary.

25gr vmax are marginal in my 1:10 twist 17rem, but the 25gr hollow points are fine, as are the 20gr vmax. The only issue with the 20gr vmax is that people have reported problems with them expanding too quickly if they hit bones. They are probably not the best choice for fox.

Flashover is more likely with small quantities of fast powders like pistol/shotgun powders in a rifle case. N150 is a medium to slow burning powder and whilst 30gr of N150 is not a lot of powder in a 243 case. As Steve pointed out Vihtavuori have published data with 28.7gr as a starting load with a 100gr bullet. I doubt that they would publish data if there was any risk of it detonating. 30gr will fill a 243 case about 3/4 full. Out of curiosity I measured the amount of N150 needed to fill a 243 case to the bottom of the neck and it works out at 45gr.

I have a Sako 75 and I also owned an 85 and an A7. Of the three the 75 is in my view the best of the bunch.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over dry firing a centre fire rifle, you wont do any harm, and I wouldn't waste your time trying to locate a 243 snap cap.

Well you may not be able to grasp it but I had a shot out .17 Remington barrel that did exactly as described by the OP. A cleaning brush was significantly tighter in the throat area. I take your point that round count may not necessarily be the final arbiter, but neither you nor the OP know how many rounds were shot through the rifle before it came into the OP's possession. As I pointed out a bore scope would be the best option for examining the bore, but if it were my rifle I would be saving for a new barrel.

If the barrel is on its way out, the first thing I have noticed is when you push a bore brush into the barrel. The initial part of the barrel is much tighter than the rest of the barrel where the erosion has pitted the throat. You might be able to see it if you have a good light, but really the only way to be sure is with a borescope. You may be able to get away with a thorough cleaning and get a bit more life out of it. However you dont know how many rounds the previous owner has put through it, and you say you have put a thousand rounds through it. I would say its toast.

The Anschutz .22 I have has pretty light coloured wood. I also had a Weihrauch HW55 years ago that when rubbed down was pretty light in colour as had been stained. It may still be walnut but in need of refinishing. At £425 it sounds like a pretty good deal.

I have a friend who used to own a lot of handguns before Labour took them away. He was a dyed in the wool Labour voter having been a miner. In a previous life I worked for the UK government. I have seen first hand the result of Labour's Human Rights and immigration policy. I have never voted Labour, never will vote Labour. I cant imagine why anyone who works for a living and is not a civil servant would, but I wont be voting Tory again. Einstein once remarked that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result was insanity. At some point you have to make a decision to vote for someone who's policies you actually believe in rather than vote for the least worst option. UKIP have their problems I wont deny that but the liblabcon are virtually indistinguishable anymore and frankly I no longer swallow the Tory Kool Aid that a vote for UKIP is a vote for Labour. Where I live a vote for UKIP is a vote for UKIP. Your mileage may vary.

I have loaded 75gr Hornady A max for target shooting using Varget which is a similar burn rate to N140. Using Winchester brass my loads were compressed even at lower than book maximum loads. You may find as Fister notes that a drop tube will help the powder grains settle better. I find that if you tip the powder slowly and allow it to swirl in the funnel you will get the powder to pack better. If its tipped in quickly it will often fill the case higher up. If you compare factory ammo that invariably seems too be compressed or have minimal powder gap.

I suspect Fister is correct and the velocity is marginal with such a stumpy barrel. I would try some 50gr Vmax if you cant get hold of Sierra bullets. Those Savage rifles are butt ugly and pretty crude but they invariably shoot really well. Rebarreling is OK if you like the gun but its not very cost effective in my opinion.
