  1. i have purchased items from John in the past and everything has been very good quality and at really good prices
  2. Crop: Wheat stubble Decoy formation u shape using dead birds Magnet position: replace magnet with flapper (electric) Birds used on magnet: dead birds Additional tip/s: i swore with a magnet up until about 3 years ago when i purchased a flapper and have since had great results on stubble, drillings etc. When on higher crops like wheat i just mount it on a pole about a foot above the crop and in winter lower it accordingly i also put a couple of floaters on each side of the pattern about 30 yads apart. Ihave put the magnet out in some cases further down the field and found that it sometimes pushes the birds back up towards my pattern but this depends on wind direction and wind speed etc,i think with the magnet it all goes down to personel choice plus the flappers have become very expesive for what they are
  3. no theres no wheat on the list but theres plenty on some of the farms that are groing the rape some of it is only sperated by the hedgrows. When i saw the birds all over it i just rang john to ok it cheers.
  4. were should it be mate, i put it on the nppc page as i was shooting on nppc land and im not to up on the computer cheers
  5. yes mate there flappers work a treat when you put them just above the crop and use dead birds for decoys
  6. they are better than the magnet in my opinion mate.
  7. Me and derwentman went out on the wheat again thursday afternoon,it wasnt the same field as last satuday but in the same area.Whem we arrived there was plenty of pigeons on the wheat we walked them of after ten minuets watching them and went and set up.It was going really well and then came the rain and this slowed things down allthough they did carry on decoying espedially after we put up an electric flapper just above the crop.We perservered until around around 8.15 couldnt pick up all birds shot and dont know exactly how many we shot but it was around the fifty mark. I feel that if the rain had held of we would of probably doubled that. Hope to have another go next week :(
  8. went out yesterday morning to have a look at some wheat fields, taking to floaters and 6 dead pigeons from the freezer.I didnt know what to expect not been down there for a while. When i arrived there was pigeons on the bottom field i watched them for a while and then went down for a closer look and it wasnt laid they were in the tracks and landing on top of it. I set up the floaters and put 4 dead pigeons down dropped in the edge and it was good shooting from the first 5 minuets the weather was good ,overcast no sun and a slight breeze. Managed to pick up 56 birds but a lot left unfound due to high wheat and did not want to trample it all down. Will be going again next week for sure!
  9. Had a day on the rape yesterday with derwentman, arrived at the ground to see what must have been hundreds of pigeons take flight. B) Set up with single magnet, flapper and lots of decoys.Pigeons arrived within 5 minuets we thought we were in for a good day but as is the case one bang and there off .We noticed they were flighting to another field of rape only three fields away which was also on the list,so i picked up and set set up in the field hoping to keep them moving. This did work for a while but they soon became very suspicious tried changing pattern etc the conditions were not perfect with very little wind we kept going but only managed 12 pigeons still enjoyed it though.
  10. Hi derwentman i shot over the field with the old burnt barn. I think some of the lack of pigeons and them being spookey may be down to that area being heavily shot when we go i think it may be wise to change location i also cant help but think your freezer must be bursting at the seems lol
  11. Shot BOT today perfect conditions nice bit of wind, slightly overcast expecting a red letter day all to no avail, they wouldnt decoy and there wasnt as many about as i thought there would have been. Tried with the magnet and they just spooked away from it so took it down and replaced it with a flapper which did get better results however there just wasnt the pigeon numbers for a large bag i ended up picking 15 up i think derwentman as shot them all.I used two half horse shoe patterns
  12. Derwentman that sounds like an offer i cant refuse good days pigeon shooting washed down with a nice beverage after hhhm nice
  13. Hello derwent man this is my first post also, sounds like you had a good day at BOT i shot there last week only to get soaked to the skin. What started out as a good looking day soon became a complete wash out with the rain ,it stopped the pigeons within ten minutes. Up until the rain there were plenty of pigeons around. Good work mate
