  2. Hope it all goes well for you, personally I can get as much enjoyment out of being there watching someone else shoot, all the best
  3. Drove onto a cut maize field today only 1 pigeon sat, it flew off when I drove up to it, went back down lane 2 pigeons sat, drove over 1 it did not fly off just sat there. Got out & picked it up, it was very weak so I dispatched it its crop was empty & it was really thin, no sign of being shot, the other 1 did'nt look healthy but was strong enough to fly off,
  4. I got well & truly hooked over 30 year ago, love the early mornings when everthings waking up, or goimg to bed. Keep on doing it while ever ypur enjoying it
  5. Had a walk round yesterday early morning gale force wind, 100 plus pigeons pushed off this years rape never fired a shot & they did not come back, was in the area till dinner. Went back to same farm today same time very few pigeons about, shot 1 flighting over with a full crop of acorns old wheat & rape. If there in the area you should get some to decoy. Good luck
  6. True, shes telling me to get my **** in gear now, were ducking at 6.30
  7. Had a look round Saturday afternoon baking hot, only pigeons I could find were on a small drilled wheat field about 20 with a few more in the copse probably just resting in the shade. Field had been beans before, still plenty on top & sprouting it looked like a bean field again, shot this field with my brother a fortnight ago before it was rolled & picked 70 up. Went back Sunday on my own at 1 o’clock expecting to get a shot, nothing on the field about 30 left the trees as I walked down, only took full cartridge bag & belt not expecting a big bag usually I have a slab in landie just in case. Set up rotor & 7 full bodied deeks in same place as last time, sat for half an hour then first pigeon decoyed perfect, another 10 minutes then they started almost suicidal, shooting constant, cartridge bag was emptying fast, had to start picking my shots leaving the young birds, they were coming straight in even when the dog was out picking a runner. Had my last shot at 10 past four, ended up with 80 picked for 108 shots, well pleased with my average. Never added any dead pigeons to the pattern just left it & only picked up when I had a runner or any belly up. Great afternoon me & the dog well tired could have probably finished with over a ton if I’d took more cartridges, then again not complaining. Couple of amusing things a Sparrowhawk circled the decoys then decided to chase the pigeon on the rotor went round about 3 times then got fed up, sent the dog into the copse directly behind the hide to pick a bird, she retrieved it & sat looking at me then back behind us into the copse, so I sent her back in & she came straight back with another one (they do talk in there own way its just understanding the language).
  8. Passed a rape field this morning at 10.30, noticed movement from a flapper, could see a hide under some trees, don't know how they were getting on, seen a few on rape but personally think there on the stubble its been drilled on.
  9. nothing finer, good walk good shooting, & plenty for a game pie
  10. your luck must be in, nip out tomorrow & get a lottery ticket
  11. well played for sticking it out, seems you have the same symptons as me, been told its pigeon fever
  12. plenty of drilling around me, some never been touched, caught this area just right before it was rolled. Passed a field of rape today just showing 20 plus feeding, but probably on whats left of the previous wheat, theres plenty of rape & winter linseed going in this year, been told price is high. cheers
  13. Did a recce on Saturday afternoon, found a few pigeon feeding on a fresh drilled 10 acre wheat field, still loads of wheat & beans from last crop on top & it had not been rolled yet. This field has always produced decent bags in the past when its been rape or peas, there was a good flight line over far end steady flow of pigeon though most passing over onto neighbouring farm were I haven’t got the shooting. Went back on Sunday at 12.30 with my brother set up 2 hides 20 yds apart along a copse of willows & hawthorn overgrown with bramble & nettles which borders 1 side of the field, rotor & a rough U pattern with 10 shells between us. Bright sunshine at first steady shooting, then the wind picked up & it threatened rain, pigeon not committing to the pattern but being drawn to the rotor. Had some cracking high birds & testing shots, Both dogs worked hard with some excellent blind retrieves behind finished about 5 ish final count 70 pigeons picked & 1 crow, my total 41 & the crow. Noticed today good size bunches of birds starting to flock up especially when we were packing up estimated over 100 in 1 bunch heading back towards the roost area.
  14. Saturday early evening had a trip out with rimfire, 6 rabbits before rain stopped play. Sunday afternoon set up on some turned over bean stubble, strong wind picked 20 pigeon, had a quick walk round when I finished & shot a rabbit.
  15. well shot, makes a refreshing change when there flighting on a good wind
  16. Had another afternoon on the wheat stubble I shot last Saturday, set up under the overhang of a large oak about 20 yds out in the field, 50 yds from were I shot before. Set up this time with 8 full bodied decoys on cradles. swapped them for pigeons as the afternoon went on. Pigeons decoyed well had 3 doubles, finished with 30 picked & a crow,
  17. Its 28 inch, must be the angle of the camera
  18. Hi Harnser, its a beretta siver pigeon S, much abused, 5 years old had over 10,000 cartridges fired, quarter choke stuck in bottom barrel, (will get round to getting it out one day) but still plods on. Cheers Paul
  19. Went on some wheat stubble this afternoon about 2.30 strong breeze blowing, 50 plus pigeon feeding under a couple of trees on far side, plenty flighing in area. The trees in this field are mature oaks the remains of long gone hedgerows when it was pasture. Set up on boundry hedgerow were they had been feeding, 2 trees on my left out in field about 30yds away, rotar & 10 shells out in front wind blowing from left. Pigeon were back within 10 mins of setting the rotar going, plenty being drawn in but would'nt commit. Managed to put 4 in the bag all well grown young birds, to many shying off so took rotar in & the shells, & put the 4 dead pigeons on cradles, pigeons seemed a bit more confident some decoying straight in others passing over in range, built pattern up to 10. It went dead at 5 so decided to give the rotar anther go, few birds still flighting, still well shy. Took it back in & had a steady trickle all single adult birds, finished up picking 27, most had full crops mixture of wheat & rape seed.
  20. Onway to dillieboy next week
  21. After a spate of fly tipping, found this landie spare wheel cover, looks like a cheap copy probably of flea bay, won't fit my 16 inch wheel just a bit to small. If anyone wants it I'll stand the postage UK only, just askin for a small donation to Help for Hero's. Usual rules apply first post etc.
  22. Had a nice walk round Wednesday evening, the cattle are back off the river banks, so was dodging about trying to avoid them, they don't like the dog when they've got calfs in tow. Very warm still evening grass is tinder dry plenty of trees shedding there leaves, shot 8 decent rabbits & 1 what looked like it was recovering from mixie its eyes were scared & had no body wieght. Lovely evening to be out & about after a long day at work.
  23. Just got in myself managed 9 on wheat stubble 500 plus feeding on rape stubble that has been part bailed on niebouring farm, no way they were going to move off that field. One frustrating day, bloke who shoots it can't be bothered, his loss. Still enjoyed my day
