  1. Went out this morning got to rape field at the back of a vacant farm, this is new ground for me the game shooting has just been terminated as the farm is going up for sale. Arrived at 10ish 10 pigeon on field loads a couple of fields away. wind strong blowing across from L to R. Shot 2 pigeon then workers cleaning out barns lit a fire black toxic smoke blowing straight at me, had to pack up as they carried on piling rubbish on. Went to another farm 10 miles away large flock resting on wheat next to rape 100s sat on power lines. Set up with wind at my back on hillside 10 dead pigeons on cradles rough U pattern rotar at front 25 yds from hide. Within 10 mins pigeon coming in some low against wind perfect decoying some sky high wings folded like bullets, picked up 27 some cracking shots. Couple of pics

  2. Went out yesterday on rape all the pigeons had gone ended up with 1 shot for 1 pigeon. Looked at a bean field that was drilled last week, had ago last sunday afternoon picked up 10 pigeon not many about would'nt decoy. Anyway 1 oclock in the afternoon beans just been rolled 200 plus feeding flighting in from all directions, decision time have a go or leave till tomorrow. :hmm: Went back today 08.00 no pigeons set up anyway few started coming but shyed off from rotar, took it in & used 2 dead pigeons on cradles, by 12.00 seen a few shot 6 decided to put rotar back out. At 13.00 it was like someone turned the tap on, steady shooting not all would decoy, finished up picking 41 & a couple of blackies, pics of bag & 1 tired dog.

  3. Beat me to it.

No gents, its a big old buck rabbit, had a bigger 1 last week from the same warren & it was a doe, 200 long metre warren in the background. Rabbits been breeding on here for years. Don't shot many hares & only in the winter if anyone I know asks for 1. Never seen an hare on this permission.

  4. Went out decoying today at first light, shot first pigeon decoyed perfect, then the rotar slowed right down, full battery but swapped it anyway, still the same. Its a pinewood the motor must be going down. So turned it off & back to basics, sat for 3 hours watching pigeons fly straight over high, no interest at all in the decoys. Packed up went home & had a walk with rifle just before dark. Shot 3 rabbits but lost 1 kicked down hole, some pics of the dog at work

  5. Its great when you get a result, I allways think along the lines of I,m out, not at work, make the most of it. Just think you could have paid serious money to shoot, a local farmer who is an excellent shot paid £500 last season for a day on driven partridge, total bag for 8 guns 200 plus he had 5 birds for 7 shots. One day I'll never forget 3 years ago set up on rape at first light with my brother in 1 hide, pigeons suicidal 44 in the bag in 1st hour, then it rained really heavy both got drenched, he went I stayed another hour for 3 more pigeon then gave up, it never stopped raining all day. Never forget that day allways wonder how it would have finished up had it stayed dry. Anyway glad to hear you had a good day :good:

  6. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself. Nice photos, especially the one of the dog "hiding" amongst your camo! Cracking looking Lab by the way!

thanks mate, shes my first gundog, I've been shooting now for 34 years but due to not being able to give 100% commitment to a dog I've waited, it was worth the wait. Got her at 7 weeks old, shes 4 this may its been a long hard learning curve for both of us, only major fault if its down its hers. Went shooting with my brother 2 hides close together, when packing up he said look at that crafty **** she took a bird from his hide back to ours. Can honestly say I enjoy my shooting twice as much now.

  7. well done buddy one wee point tho it would be better to dispatch the bird rather than take photos of it in pic two(if the bird is still alive whitch it looks to be)just gives antis ammo buddy :good:

Fair point cocker, it was dispatched seconds later I have removed the pic as not to offend anyone.

  8. Hi, went out friday first light, looked a promising day weather wise, arrived at permission first light vast area of rape bordered by deep flowing drains. Had a long walk along a grass track to get to the area where the pigeon are feeding, having carried all my gear their more once, I had an idea tiewrap a bread tray to the sack barrow load it up easy. Turned out to be harder than carrying, allways learning. Plenty of pigeon about though a lot would not decoy, finished up picking up 21, hit a few more & missed some easy ones. All in all enjoyable day.

  9. Rimfire magic is only half an hour from me, called in to inquire about a trigger kit for CZ452 .22, asked if it was possible for them to fit it, job done in 10 mins for no charge, 1st class service I would highly recommend

  10. good to get out mate, well i went to doncastor b&q this morning for 8, left lincoln at 7 and i think i might of past you in your field about 8.45 i was going to haxey you had your landy in the field and you were wailking back to your hide with your black lab, how mad is that :good:

Yep that was me, was you shooting at Haxey, got 200 acres at Sandtoft not to far from there, had good bags on maize but not hitting rape as yet as its poor & patchy, last time it was rape nothing till March then a good run right into May.

  11. Dry cold still day today, no wind set up on a 60 acre block of maize stubble that was combined early November, this field has been shot a good few times todate, been a large number in the area for a couple of weeks. Set up on boundry tree line 12 shells & rotar, sat down at 09.00 hrs 2 pigeon straight in R&L great start. Then it went steady plenty having a look but flying round well out of range, finished the day at 15.00 hrs 22 picked up 2 feathered 28 shots, lovely day to be out
