Plinker I am not plotting against anyones pride and joy, if you care to read my posts correctly you will see that I have been up front and told this bloke exactly what will happen if his cat is foolish enough to try to take one of my birds again. I will allow the hawk to kill and then eat the said cat. Each one of my birds has had thousands of man hours invested in them in order to produce top quality stylish hunting hawks which may I remind you are my bread and butter, while the closest this cat comes to being looked after is being booted out the back door every night. And as for pride and joy, when I asked him if he would rather have the bill for his cat killing one of my birds, well lets just say he went pale at the sum I would be looking for. As already stated in a previouse post, it looks as though this cat has learnt its lesson, but make no mistake if I feel any of my birds are under threat from the cat it WILL be going home in a bin bag. If this attitude offends any of the more sensitive members of this forum, then my response is TOUGH. Peregrine

Hi guys Here is an update on the cat problem. I think its sorted out now as I saw the cat creeping about in the field behind my house, when it heard one of my hawks move and heard the sound of the bells it shot off as quick as it could, absolutely terrified!!! I am only glad it was one of my big hawks it met and not one of the Smaller ones. I dont think it will be coming back into my garden in a hurry. Thanks for all the helpful comments. Peregrine

I have managed to find some very relevant stuff on a site that NOBS posted, so I will take it round this afternoon and try to explain again that I know he cant help his cat coming in the garden but he must also be aware that I cant help what happens to it if it does. The arrogance of these people is astounding , they havent been here 5 minutes and they want to change everything to suite them. I am cruel because I hunt, but they wont except the fact that tiddles is killing more wildlife than I am!! I suggested that they let me put a couple of hawk bells on the cat to give wildlife a chance and also to let me know the cat is in the garden before putting the hawks on the lawn, and they react like I am telling them what to do with their pet and its none of my business etc they suggest I dont put my "dangerouse" hawks on the lawn in the first place!!. Christ I am only trying to protect the cat from my hawks, its already had a very lucky escape you would think they would be gratefull that I am trying to save its bleeding life. I have already warned this muppet , I WILL NOT ROB MY HAWK OF A KILL AGAIN!!! If she nails it again, she feeds. The choice is his. I have doubts though it is someones pet after all. Maybe FM suggestion is the better option I have done this in the past what do you think? Peregrine

Hi guys, need a bit of help here. I am in a dispute at the moment with a neighbour who's young cat came just a little too close to one of my large female harris hawks that was sitting on her bow perch in my garden. fortunately I was on hand and managed to retrieve the cat without too much damage being done, however I am now in a "feud" with the neighbour who thinks that because my hawks are hunting birds I am a cruel b***ard, he has recently moved from a town into a place about 100 yrds from me. My argument is that he turns his cat out and inflicts it on the local wildlife population and it probably takes more wildlife than I and all my birds do, and he should at leas bell the cat in order to give the small nesting birds a chance. However he refuses to believe that cats make a significant dent in the wildlife population, and I would like to be able to provide him with some facts and figures to illustrate my point. Does anyone know of a website where I can get the relevant information on the damage that domestic cats do to birds etc. This ****ole is really starting to get on my nerves and I am loosing my patience rapidly, even though I saved his cat and deprived one of my top hunting birds of its kill (which she was pretty p***ed off about) , he's still not satisfied. So any help would be appreciated lads!! Peregrine

Longnetter You say you snare the mink, do you use spring snares or just set them as for rabbits? I didnt think the shape of a mink would lend itself to snaring in the usual way. When I was a keeper for fun we would set spring snares for rats, is this a similar method? Peregrine

One question: WHY??? Why would anyone want to see exploding rabbits, whats the point in making such a video? Is it so they can replay it again and again in slow motion? If so again why? I can understand someone taking a pic of the bag after a particularly good day, I can understand someone taking a pic of a particularly good shot, what I cant understand is someone taking a video of chunks of rabbit flying through the air. Maybe I differ from some of the guys that use this forum but personally I take no enjoyment in the actual death of an animal, the hunt or the flight yes thats what makes people like us tick but few real sportsmen revel in the actual death of their quarry, in fact at the risk of taking some stick I have to admit that I am always quite saddened when I pick up my kills, at the end of the day we have just caused the death of a beautiful animal the least we can do is show it some respect. I mean no offence to anyone but this is just my opinion. Peregrine
