    Winter Rats

Mrs NJW likes to feed the birds at our new house and being a green sort of a chap I set up a compost heap. Result.................Rats! Seemed like a good excuse to go shopping so I got a Crossman .22 and had a go. Had 13 so far at around the 40ft mark. Not always first time but they are out in the day and with the cold have been keen to come back! Last one was saturday morning. Head shot and instantly gone. Nothing since so I guess the problem is under control. Beats watching dancing on ice anyway . NJW

    First Ferreting

So went last Friday for my first time and loved it. Very addictive. 4 ferrets, two lurchers and a few excited people turned up at a livery yard to help relieve the problem around some paddocks containing some expensive pieces of equine kit. We were shown around the purse nets and long nets by the two guys who were taking us out for the day and then we moved off to the first site. Bolted a few bunnies from the place but the lurcher was off guard and they were away. Eventually we dug one out that had come up on a stop end and that was the first of many. Went on to two more sites and had varying luck. One looked promising in the woods but ferrets not happy which I was told indicated other residents that nobody wanted to tangle with! Last site for the morning was a wooded slope and there were a load of holes. Netted up and put long nets down the slopes. Ferrets in and we were away for a good bag. The guys who took us were very friendly, full of knowledge and made the whole thing a great morning. I was not allowed off the dealing with the catch which was fine and we took the bunnies back to the kitchen where we learnt to skin and joint them and then made some fantastic food. Preparing and eating what you catch is key for me so a day to remember and one to make you feel good about what you do. NJW

    Sickened

I don't want this type of person in my society. Whadda we gonna do to change the rules so that it is understoood that this type of behaviour reaps harsh rewards?? Oh and what would I do to them if I had them alone for 10 minutes. Well I'm 6'3" and 16 stone so pick on me you #######. N
  11. Its always been the same George this generation is no different to the last or the next etc etc ad infinitum. When I were a lad....................lets not go there! Upshot is it is up to us all and we should tell the Daily Mail to get a grip portraying all yoof as knife wielding maniacs out to kill us all! The Govt have to lead to stop gangs and so far they are weak as heck! Rant rant rant! N
