  1. Just received my new chesapeake pup Chester he replaces bracken my old cheesy that passed a couple of years ago, only 10 weeks old but looking forward to training him so hopefully he will make a good gun dog.
  2. silpig5, I have had several chocolate labs over the years, and i have had no problems, if you choose a working stain from a good breeder this should be fine. All the people that Say chocolate labs are no good, the fact maybe that they are not very good gun dog trainer's, and listen to to much rubbish branded about by people that do not know what they are talking about. I personaly work with chesapecks and chocolate labs, they are all great dogs in the field it is all in the training. At the moment I have one chesapeak one lab and one pup coming in three weeks the son of my own lab. Hope this helps. mft135.
  3. Evil Elvis I have used various rifles over the years from .22rf , 22m 22h, 243 and now 308, but i always go back to the hornet i have been using for the last twenty five years, there is not much i cannot do with home loaded 45 grain hornaday sp heads, I make up 100 round for about 20 pounds a little more now since heads and powder have gone up through the roof. I have found the hornet great to use low noise levels, mmuch cheaper to operate than the larger 22 center fires, but to make this rifle worth while you have to home load or it will get expensive, eg run of the mill ammo winchester super x 45 g sp 39 pounds for 50. Hope this helps. mft135.
  4. just purchased one from uttings.com very reasonable price mode 1A2 solid base 74.95 mft 135
  5. Remmey sps, it was Vihtavuori n-140 you can get 1 pound tubs from some dealer's, 73 quid a tub serious price. the rifle does not go bang any more it goes ka ching, ka ching like a cash register. mft 135.
  6. Powder last batch i purchased 56 per kilo Vn- 140 day light robbery grahams inverness, need more now the price has proberly gone up again wiil find out when i go down to inverness next time. mft135
  7. I have just bought a swarovski 2.5 x 15 x 56P BT N0 4A reticule body 30mm from gregor macleods in tain the best purchase i have made in years, having spent a few months going over web sites looking at prices and all deals. What made my mind up was i tried the scope in the car park out side the shop and found it the best i have tried so far.and was sold on it, but my wife nearly killed me when she found out how much it was. But if you want quality it costs. mft135
  8. Not a bad little gun byt a little to much in the asking price 70 to 80 max, i have just bought a new baikal single barrel duel ejector manual or auto for 75 pound in will take 3'' fourlongs. mft 135
  9. If you are having to put down bulls or live stock on a regular basis, i would recomend you get a humane killer works with a .22 blank cartridge very effective, i have shot a lot of live stock over the years with everything from a .22 hornet to a .308 now i only shoot live stock with a rifle as a last resort. the humane killer takes the danger out of the equation especialy if the animal is in a farm building or stock yard. Also make sure you have this application on your liecence as it is an offence to shoot farm animals with out it. if you are using 270 a 150 grain sp not ballistic tip head should do the job ok Hope this helps.
  10. I have found as long as you are a registered farm or croft with a farm or land number red is no problem, the problem comes when you are not using it for a agrcultural purpose. Up here in Orkney the excise dip tanks all the time as there is so many people using red on the road. I have been stopped twice in three years diesel tank checked less than one mile from my property and have had no problem, but if i had been driving the tractor on the road with no agrucultural purpose i would get nicked for it, ( no farm work on the road white diesel). hope this helps. mft 135.
  11. Bigthug87, If I am correct it does not count until you have your dsc level 1, then you can stalk with a verified witness towards your dsc level 2. You can stalk with your own rifle only if you have it on your licence, ( if going for red deer .243 100grn bullet minumum.) If not on ticket use estate rifle. In some way's the dsc level's are starting to be a bit of a rip off to many people and organisations getting involved. mft135.
  12. Bigthug87 The stalking trip per day is 130 pounds this encludes a stalking guide which is usualy the estate owner. Three stalks per day if time permits a lot of walking over open heather, the only other cost is accomadation or b & b in halkirk nearby. if you want to stay at the eastate 5 star but around 80 per night. If you want any more info i will send it on to you. mft 135.
  13. It's been a while since my last post but now i have time and back on my ship here are some photos of my january trip to caithness for red deer. Since my last post i have got my new sako 85 .308 reload set up, hornaday 150 sst, norma shell case, cci primer, 44 grn of V - n 140. this tested on a crono is 2720 fps, which seems to work great, less than 1 inch at 100 meters. Here are a few pic's of the trip, i have been studying how to cut up a full carcass with the help of a dvd from david stretton. I am studying for my dcs 1 at the moment but finding it hard going with deer ecoligy.
  14. Sorry for the late reply Andy B, the dog came from central england my wife went down to get him for my birthday, then they came up to inverness to deliver him to us in the tesco car park. It was all huge suprise for me to be presented with the chesi pup. My wife had to book the pup 2 years in advance, so quite a long wait, if you type in google there are a fair few chesi breeders in england, the trick is to get one from shooting stock. The best water dog i have seen very powerfull swimmer no problebs with even the biggest geese. Hope this is of some help.
  15. .243 brass you could try , tim hanahams, grahams inverness, macloeds tain, realoading solutions where i hqave just bought 100 .308 lapua for 46 pounds, but i think the .243 are more expensive. Hope this helps.
