  1. Haven't decided if I'll follow-up with BASC further yet. They will advise to push back as hard as possible but I'd be well ****** if the FEO decides the accompaniment clause should also be added to the .243. What would you do?
  2. Yes please, could you PM me details of how you would prefer payment? Thanks Raja
  3. First off, apologies to anyone already bored with this kind of thing but I think my experience is worth sharing. Background: I have had a FAC since 31st March 2009, starting off with a .22lr & .17HMR with a mentoring condition imposed by my FEO at the time (now retired). 15 months in, and approximately 12 months after the mentoring condition was removed, I applied for my first centre-fire (.243) for fox and muntjac which was granted for fox only until such time that I passed DSC1. Having passed the DSC1 in August last year I got the .243 conditions altered to include deer. Shortly afterwards having secured some boar shooting and wanting to ensure I was adequately equipped for large deer species I applied for .308 in addition to .243. When the FAC came back I was very disappointed to find that the .308 was conditioned to include accompaniment by an experienced shooter clause. Having consulted with BASC I wrote a robust letter to the NE Met FET Licensing Manager asking for the condition to be removed as it had not been discussed with me prior to being issued, had not been requested by me and would restrict my practical use of this rifle. At the same time I requested that in the event that the condition was not removed that the FET team provide me with a clear and unambiguous defintion of what "accompanied" actually means in practice along with their version of the defintion of an "experienced shooter" is. Here follows the response I received back early last month: --------------- Dear Mr W, In response to your letter dated 15th November please allo me to explain. I apologise if the condition "to be supervised" was not conveyed to you before you recieved my letter. I have added this condition as you are relatively new to shooting and the taking of deer and wild boar is a difficult and exacting form of shooting. It is a common condiion and only means that you need to be in the company of an experienced shot. This can be someone whos runs professional shoots or has held an FAC (and shot the required quarry) for a number of years. This is to ensure you gain some experience whilst supervised. It would normally entail you participating in approximately six guided shoots before I would consider removing this condition. I would be surprised if you had intended going shooting completely on your own at this stage and therefore hopefully this will not be a problem for you. For instance I would imagine the BASC's Arran atalking scheme is organised / run by experienced stalkers. I hope I have made the matter clearer and that this requirement will not present too many difficulties for you. I am aware you have pass the DSC Level 1. ------------- So, with the exception of boar I can do everything with the .243 unaccompanied which I need to accompanied in order to do with the .308. Bonkers in my opinion. Am I missing the point here?
  4. I was wondering the same thing meself last night My contingency is to buy a bit of land somewhere near the equator. Spring and Summer in the UK with Autumn and Winter away in the sun. Sorted
  5. Jambo, Lini ya Kiingereza na toleo kiswahili kupatikana?
  6. I'm with Dunkield and others with similar opinions on this. Have never watched a RG programme and probably never will. For me the Passion for Angling series was in a different class to everything else I've watched. Crikey, didn't they even have an episode with the late great Bernhard Venables as a guest!? When you look at the works of the likes of Walker, Stone, Falkus and others you realise what a shame it is these guys are no longer around to reproduce their work on TV. It would be truly compulsive viewing for sure!
  7. I think Pioneer were only available in 42" and 50". Funnily enough I bought the 42" Pioneer plasma (wife kicked up a stink about size of the 50" set) and a 37" Panasonic LCD - very satisifed with both.
  8. I've got a similar condition on my .308 and have questions into my FET requesting clarification on the same for two weeks without response thus far. Oddly I have no such condiion on my .243 which makes the whole thing a bit of a joke really. The letter I sent in with my FAC was polite but pretty robust and I fully expect I'll hear nothing back until I need to chase them once my current supply of ammo runs low.
  9. Did you sell Pioneer plasma sets too? When I looked they were superior to everything else I reviewed; Panasonic came second.
  10. If you are not in a rush then I'd personally suggest waiting until a screw-cut T3 lite comes along. That's what I wish I'd done, I have the aforementioned in .243 and cannot fault it for the money...
  11. Mike, You seem to have changed tack from your original post where you were asking why members see fit to shoot them; you then go on to object about them being shot but not eaten? I'm in total agreement that if shot they should be eaten and it troubles me when I see people on my own shoot turn their noses up when offered birds of all types to take home at the end of the day. Personally I have no issue with woodcock being shot if they are eaten. I wish pheasants flew like woodcock as they much better suit my shooting style (not much time to think about it). There are some people on my shoot who have not and never will shoot one, others that have shot one and decided not to take any more and a few that will continue to shoot them. It causes about as much controversy as the two camps of opinion on whether it's appropriate to have and use a hip flask on the shoot whilst shooting. In summary - each to their own really...
  12. Opinions are all very well and good and everyone is entitled to them but FACTS are generally more useful. The fact is we would not still have a GSP had we not invested in an electric collar.
  13. An engine diagnostics tester is your friend! Personally my first step would be to get someone to run a diagnostics test on the car to see if any diagnostic trouble codes are stored. Believe it or not ~70% of the software in the engine control system is dedicated to the detection and management of faults. As already suggested this is almost certainly an air problem (as opposed to fuel or ignition). There were some big problems with throttle position sensors a few years back on the petrol engines fitted to the KA and fiesta but faults with air bypass valve (per picture above), TMAP sensor, EEC module and even crankcase breathing / vacum system problems could exhibit the symptoms described. If the fault lies with a electrical sensor or actuator then it's unlikely that the EEC module diagnostics would not have detected it, so if no codes are present think carefully before replacing any electronics! Let us know the outcome.
  14. Met NE FET and CO-19 are in the same building. Could be the same for other Met areas. Might explain it.
  15. Per the title really folks - anyone got any experience of their NV equipment?
  16. I thought they were £100?
  17. I'm with MC on this one. Actually, I would have liked to see the Police smash a few of the "protestors" up good and proper. The fact that they didn't represents far more what's wrong with our society than the cause of the trouble imho.
  18. I understand mate but given the choice I'd buy a cheap original rather than a cheap imitation every time.
  19. Buy cheap buy twice (or more depending how many cheaps you buy). Simples.
  20. Doctors have just discovered a new disease which affects gun owners with overactive pineal glands - it's so new it hasn't even been given a common name yet but the scientifc term for this condition is "bimille unacentrum pes lepus capensis necorisis syndrome". More on this later...
  21. In my albeit limited experience the "everyone chips in" approach doesn't work - or at least isn't "fair". On our shoot which I like to think is reasonably well run we have a P/T keeper who feeds and waters the birds morning and night once they arrive in spring and up to such time they are let out of the release pens. He's "paid" but it does not amount to much. If we didn't have a keeper we wouldn't have a shoot, end of. Is there no one in the syndicate with a son (or daughter) that could do the feed and watering for you as a minimum? (gotta be better than a paper round). I know that works well on at least one other shoot. In order to implement a reward / penalty based system for work parties you really need quite a hard nosed shoot captain. Ours isn't up for that. Trouble with an established "tradition" in a shoot is that you will always find it difficult to institute change. Lots of moaning and biatching through the season but very little gets raised at the AGM. No point trying to impose rules on newbies that none of the established members conform to either. Out of interest - what kind of ratio of birds get shot vs. total put down each year on your shoot?
  22. OK - how many aborted take-offs does one accept before kicking up a fuss and getting yourself and luggage thrown off the plane? I've also thought two strikes and I'd be out but I would be cacking it on the second attempt. What do the CAA guidelines state? I recall that the Iberian plane which crashed on take-off in Madrid a few years ago was on it's third attempt.
  23. Italians don't need reverse so much as flip - to change what side they on based on who's winning
  24. Surely by definition that's OK for anything that is not required to be "high availability" but anything "safety / mission critical" or "high dependency / availability" requires triple lane redundancy?
  25. Can't talk to iphone4 but I know a few people that switched from iphone3 to HTC desire who consider the latter a signifcantly superior product. I have a desire but never owned an iphone. Still have a nokia "not so smart" phone when I need to make a call or are travelling somewhere w/o easy access to recharge the HTC.
