Can i say some very honest and heart tearing posts on here. Offering my sympathies and condolences to those of you who have or are suffering hardships. Comments based on personal experiences have highlighted both sides of the argument well, and understandably should make us all think hard about where we stand on this, and which route we should follow. As is often the case there can be no one size fits all, and maybe that is what the issue is, there are some many grey areas! Cheers. Aled

I worked as a care assistant in a home for the elderly when i was a student in the early 90's, there were quite a few there who would have chosen the DNR route, or the withdrawal of treatment had the option been available for them in those days. Things have changed since then. It is time the right to die to be an option in this country with suitable safeguards in place.
  3. Marsh man, i can't answer for all goose people, but a pal of mine claimed you should breast a Canada goose and slow cook with veg and red wine to make a tasty meal. This is second hand information so no idea if true!
  4. I knew there had been a financial contribution to the Labour party to ban hunting.
  5. Cheese spread and crisp sandwiches, student fodder!! Loved it.
  6. Its the day to quote myself today, Goodnight Shane!!

    Shane McGowan

Part of my teenage interest has ended......, a big fan of the Pogues saw them live a couple of times. Really liked Shanes lyrics, and Streams of Whiskey will be played at my funeral! So good night and thanks Shane. Cheers. Aled
  8. I'm from mining stock, but the 1948 education act helped my family you see.....Dad was a newly qualified Doctor in 1966, so he and a few of his colleagues headed to Aberfan to try to help....they were turned back, the community did not need Doctors they needed colliers and miners to find bodies. I always find that story heart breaking. Aberfan is a real black mark on history. 😢
  9. I've found this thread really interesting as retirement is on the horizon for me. My parents and my in laws (all of which i like by the way) retired from their careers but....all four went and worked in fields part time for many years in areas they were interested in which was a good thing for all. I hope i find a similar outlet, however .....i do feel sorry for my Dad, he retired from full time work, and joined a top notch angling syndicate on a well known sea trout river.....exactly when the sea trout runs collapsed. Had he fished with me during the 90's when runs were good he would of caught more fish but he was too busy working!!
  10. Oh come on guys, where's Shane MacGowan.....Ok I'll get my coat!...but i still love the Pogues.
  11. That is making my mouth water just looking at it, brilliant!
  12. Reading all this makes me feel quite lucky as i live in a small village and all my neighbours know i shoot, and many of them are farmers and i am allowed to shoot on their land. Things have changed though, used to see people walking through the town with gun slip over thir shoulder and a dog on a lead heading somewhere for a bit of hunting for the pot. Been a while since i saw that....although having said that i cant remember the last time i saw a person walk through town carrying fishing kit, that used to happen regularly!!
  13. Yep dog walk at 6.30am is a nice start to the day.
  14. Don't ask me how but my dog has managed 4 magpies in recent weeks! So 1911!

I used to enjoy Little Chef fry ups, their Big 7 burgers, and their maple & syrup pancakes! There was one very close to my home so if we were to lazy to cook we'd go there. There was one in North Wales which was a pit stop for a fry up on the way to some fishing competitions.
  16. Nice reads all. Reminds me of my angling peak when i would be out on opening day and would fish regularly until closing day. I won't be out on the marsh on te 1st, i will however be out at some point during the first week, work and family allowing.

    Iceland

Been there twice salmon fishing which was brilliant, all types of fishing out there is brilliant, so if you pack a telescopic rod if you have one.
  18. Well done, thats 1 more than i've had this season.
  19. Are you looking for a working dog? If so you would be better contacting Battersea, Black Retriever cross, and gundog specific rehoming sites as they do rehome dogs to working homes. Cheers. Aled
  20. Must say tradespeople around where i live are very busy, if you want work done you are looking at 12 months before they can contemplate starting. So somebody has money to spare and somebody is making money along the way.
