  1. Glad to hear you have had some good days. Woodcock: Don't seem to be as many as usual in my corner of West Wales this year, but everyone else is seeing loads!
  2. Interestingly some of the worse conversations I've had regarding harvesting wild meat have been with omnivores who would quite happily eat a Tesco chicken, but would turn their nose up at wild rabbit or duck...my Mam being one! I've met vegetarians who have said "if you take responsibility for killing it, preparing it then eating that's fair enough" Cheers. Aled
  3. Strong mining ancestry on both sides of my family as well Shambam 1962. I always thought that there would be a place for coal in the future as i expected UK technology to have looked at using it in a more environmentally friendly way, we still have quite a lot of it. Sadly (unless someone here knows different i would love to be wrong) that does not seem to have happened, I agree though importing coal from Columbia seems totally wrong.
  4. Could it be just perhaps maybe, his plan was to be Prime Minister purely to feather his own nest? You know i may be wrong like, but......
  5. There are some medical conditions which mean that protein intake needs to be v low phenylketonuria (PKU) being one. I also have a friend who only eats shot meat and game and rod caught fish. I also know one person who is a vegan, but does eat cleanly shot venison, stating its the ultimate in humane organic meat!
  6. Another slow cooker fan here pheasant can be brilliant in a slow cooker!
  7. Brilliant pictures Brambles and some good bags of rabbits, very few around me these days.
  8. Bit disappointed they did not show the pheasants entering the food chain, but i genuinely expected a far worse programme than the one we got so not bad is my reply! Re the eco estate, have a look and see what you think Bamff Ecotourism – Where Wild Things Are Cheers Aled
  9. You are correct the shop in the alleyway has closed but there is a new shop on the main road.
  10. Is that the relatively new shop on the main street? Its closed very recently if so bought some stuff there a few months ago.
  11. Saw this news , cannot believe that people would do something like that to the hero that is Rob Borrows, the guy is a legend......I reckon 5 minutes in the Rhinos changing room would be enough!!!
  12. Good spot to get free firewood is along river banks after a flood. You'll need to cut and stack but there you go.

    NHS crisis

I hope your son gets well soon Chairman.
  16. Don't people mention the three "W"s, if the dog still enjoys its Walk, Wags its tail and Wolfs its food, it should be OK, when one of those goes its time to assess the situation. As an aside many years later it still bugs me that it was not me that took the family dog on his last journey. I had said that i would but had gone back to Uni fully expecting to do the sad deed a few weeks later (i was the dog's alpha 2), i left it too late, just glad Mam and my brother were there, so for your own piece of mind, don't leave it too late.
  17. Pheasant, streaky bacon, carrots, potatoes, red onions parsnip and a chicken stock pot in the slow cooker. Used the juices to make the gravy. Tasted great!
  18. I had some a couple of weeks ago, i just stuck in a cooking dish with some sliced veg a la "Nigella Lawson One pot meals" it was really tasty with gravy! As a student we used to BBQ them ,and they were fine like that as well.
  19. Personal belief here and it is not backed up by any social science facts: I always thought that "the dole etc" was meant to be a walking stick to help you through difficult times e.g. the factory has closed its not your fault you need a bit of help until you find your next job, rather than a crutch you can't do without which others have outlined as a lifestyle choice. However where are peoples self respect? After i left Uni getting a proper career start was not easy, so i signed up with a work agency and worked on factory floors, did spells as a bin man, and other mundane jobs. I usually worked 4 days a week, which i preferred to signing on.

  22. Many a true word said in jest.....i lived in Canton which is a part of Cardiff for 5 years, and was told by a young local Cantonian that "all you Welshies* are moving here to Canton and buying up these houses us locals can't compete you tend to be better educated than us and can earn more money" Take what you will from my comments. Cheers Aled * Welshies in this context are the Welsh speaking Welsh who moved to Cardiff to live and work, and there was a lot of us in the Canton area! ps I live home in West Wales now!
