Got the snip 10 years ago, was in moderate pain for 1 day, I did take Ibuprofen though, was back on the cross trainer 3 days later.
  5. I work in this field, the levelling up fund is a total pile of manure, and will much to my disappointment, make no difference to disadvantaged communities in the UK.

    Charity shop

Like others i've done alright in charity shops, some great fishing and fieldsports book, a game bag with a broken front strap, bought a belt at the same shop for 20p and used it repair the game bag! Fishing reels, traditional cork floats, some nice drinking glasses and my favourite tea mug!
  7. JohnfromUK, that is really interesting as we have had exactly the same happen in our chimney, and 2 flew down the chimney a couple of weeks ago, and like yours they appeared from the fireplace, 1st time i've seen one for a good while then i see 2 in a week!

    Sturgeon

This one weighed 388lb and was caught on the River Tywi in Carmarthenshire in 1932 caught by Alec Allen.
  12. I worked in this community in the early 00's there was a group of people committed to try to change things for the better, and some good things did happen. There were far fewer instances of this sort of activity then, although there had been some bad times there in the 80's. Most of the people i met were just like you and me. They wanted to look after their families, homes and have access to some leisure. I should think that most of the people who have been affected by this violence are the same, and a minority wanted to cause havoc. Aled
  13. I bought a pair of issued Altbergs and 3 years later they are going strong. For £40, still cant quite believe i got a bargain!
  14. I'm sure i've seen this question somewhere else recently....my dunlops have outlasted both my barbour and hunter wellies.
  15. Two points: I like most of my generation loved pubs, met your mates, made new mates, and met women. Point no 2, i used to smoke and 80% of my smoking happened in pubs when i drank (i think the term is social smoker) Gave up smoking a good few years ago now, but when i have a pint in a pub and i sit down i still think a cigarette would be nice now. However we are losing pubs here i used to have a cracking pub crawl in my local town during my 20's, most gone now. The pubs that are still open have limited opening hours, New Years Eve....the best pub in my home town was closed, due to a lack of staff. Oh how things have changed!
  16. Some really interesting points on this thread, nice one all. This next bit is a personal comment. Like others here woodcock and rough shooting is a big part of my shooting, and i too dont look to start until late November. If I lost October as a woodcock shooting month, i would not be bothered, however losing the last week of November would affect my shooting.
  17. Interesting post mick.c, sorry to hear of your communities troubles. What a sad set of circumstances this case has provided. Over my adult life we have had 3 similar incidents on my home river (although thankfully none recently), on each occasion the local angling club members have been asked to help the search on two occasions it was an angling club member who found these poor people, and on the third it was suggested by the club that divers searched a particular spot, which is where the body was found. Local knowledge counts.
  18. I agree, Which exactly is why i only buy it now and again same with Shooting Times, although i do buy the Christmas edition.
  19. Buy it now and again when looking for something different to read. My local newsagent has stopped stocking it (and shooting times), not because he's an anti, he still sells the Field, sporting shooter and various fishing mags but apparently nobody buys it from him anymore.

    Rabbit

Just wish there were a few more rabbits around here, i love rabbit casserole.
  21. Ditchman i disagree with you there, his best friend is dead! .....his best friend is thankfully dead! Sir Jimmy Savile defended paedophile pop star Gary Glitter saying 'he did nothing wrong' and calling child porn just 'dodgy films' | The Independent | The Independent
