    The end of an era.

Good luck with the move JDog.
  2. Nick Fisher: Body found in hunt for missing BAFTA winner - BBC News Author, TV Writer, Keen angler and Shooting Times contributor Nick Fisher has sadly passed away. Angling has lost a good ambassador.
  3. Here i totally agree with you.
  4. Not really sure what to say about the young people's work situation: From 16 years old until i graduated from Uni i had a summer job, waiting tables, working on building sites, on the bins with the council, or working on the factory floor. So did all of my friends. Competition was quite stiff for summer jobs! ...with one exception, the local care homes were crying out for staff......i did it for one summer it was far far harder work than any of the other jobs i did! The people who do those jobs deserve every penny they get.

    Aberfan

A few newly qualified Doctors arrived at Aberfan to see if they could help. They were turned away, sadly it was too late for Dr's.....miners were of far more use.

  7. Great pic Rob...now is that other dog a lurcher? I Love seeing non traditional breeds in the beating line.
  8. Yep far too many fishing rods, and i plan to start sea fishing so a 2nd hand beachcaster is on the way! When my parents bought the house they live in now, back in 1983, they set up a series of clips Zinc-Plated Tool Clips ½" 10 Pack | Tool Clips | Screwfix.com along the wall next to the washing machine, it kept the rods out of harms way. Me...ive got a a few cupboards in the utility room....also holds a shotgun cabinet and a lot of other outdoor kit! Cheers Aled
  9. Great thread and some really nice replies. All sorts of thigs change as you get older, one of my friends was a very keen shot when younger.....he hasn't held a gun for 10 years, but ....he has 5 Labradors and picks up on shoots twice a week.
  10. I get where you are coming from marsh man, i don't hammer the sea trout the way i used to. I fish for an hour enjoy the fresh air, if i catch something great if not well.. i'm not bothered....at one time i'd arrive at the river at 9pm, and leave the river at 9am the following morning having fished hard all night covering several pools and runs!!
  11. Altbergs Grade 1 on ebay.
  12. Chef: Are they still out there somewhere Super Goose under another name? Would love to find them again!
  13. As a poor student we used to add a tin of home brand supermarket baked beans to Spaghetti Bolognese, bulked up the mince and tasted fine! Have been eating home brand supermarket beans for a while always found them fine.....i do however miss this!
  14. Like others watched GOT during lockdown, enjoyed the series, recently found Book 1 in a charity shop so i will read at some point (got other books to finish first). Watching House of Dragons, but with a different attitude, i was glad of GOT during lockdown....don't need the TV quite as much now, fishing, and shooting are available!
  15. 😁 Nice story marsh man. One of our club members has a border collie cross spaniel, its a cracking working dog.
  16. Fair enough Nuke. Post was made with tongue very firmly in cheek.....😀
  17. What about a mongrel, this is my dog Celt a Labrador crossed with a NZ Huntaway, an accidental mating so not a designer dog. He wont win a field trial championship but we enjoy our shooting!
  18. Another vote here for a Dacia Duster 4x4 i've had one for a few years.
  19. I think all of us are going to have to make changes as to how we live our lives. Like others I grow my own veg (but i enjoy that anyway!), cut my own logs, and my hobbies do provide me with some healthy meat and fish. I've had a surplus of French Beans this year, left them in a box outside the front gate with a for free sign, fair play they've all gone!
  20. Brilliant i'm driving through there next week!...Also there is a gun shop in Lampeter.
  21. Yes sadly, a lot of rural sports shops are gone. In my home area the same shop sold, school sports kit, rugby, cricket, hockey, football kit, hiking gear, fishing tackle and shooting equipment!!
  22. OK we were in this position when we got a dog, and he was kennelled during the day, lived in the house the rest of the time. When we were heading off to work in the morning he would be waiting in the kennel for his bone and would be fine during the day, very rarely did he mess his kennel. We did work up to this as we first got the dog during school holidays (my wife is a teacher) so his time alone started 1 hours, then 2 etc. Circumstances change the dog is now 5 years old, and we are able to leave him in the house for 6 hours with no issue, however this is the exception as my since Covid i am home most days. If we know we are going to be out for more than 6 hours my Dad lets the dog out for a short walk, my Dad and our Dog are great pals. Hope this helps.
  23. Well we knew this day would come. RIP the Queen and condolences to the family.
