  1. Thanks for sharing this cyrus it's good to see someone doing a comprehensive job of patterning their cartridges. I like the idea of cutting the desired bird shape out of a piece of carboard to see 'what if' - I will give it a try when my new wildfowling choke arrives and needs putting through its paces.
  2. I have the Eddie Nixon Pink call and find it very easy to produce a good sound with it
  3. I have started trying this over the last few months with varied success - snapped this guy over the boundary last week, I had to reduce the quality right down to attach it but you get the idea!
  4. I bought some Lightenings (36g #3) to try a couple of weeks back as a local shop had them in stock, I have always used gambore 36g #3 up until now and never had a problem with them but fancied a change. I don't think I've used enough to properly say if I think they are better or worse but I can say I have been pleasantly surprised by the ability to kill duck at decent range - they produced my first left and right at Gadwall so that is enough to win me over! Anecdotally I feel the recoil might be a touch more and the casing is thrown slightly further than the gamebore but this might be my imagination! I bought another 100 the other day so maybe that is an indication of how I find them. I havn't had chance to pattern them yet but will hope to do so soon. Like Richie10 I had one the other day that pushed the primer out has anyone else found this or know why it happen? And has anyone on her put some over a chrono?
  5. A successful day Penelope, and a great write-up too, thanks for sharing. I have been toying with the idea of a day permit on the wash for a couple of seasons now and I think this has made up my mind!
  6. Great write up, thanks for sharing. Did you arrange the shooting directly with the estate and would you be willing to share contact details?
  7. One Canada hanging in the shed
  8. +1 for the nith hotel. I've enjoyed Caerlaverock when I've been - watch out for the barnacles though as you will be being watched when on the reserve
  9. I have the Cabels 3 in 1 wading jacket and would really recommend it I often just wear the inner jacket in the early season and when it gets colder/rain the full jacket performs very well. I wouldn't be adversed to the addition of neoprene cuffs though.
  10. Any places in yorkshire to buy a slab to try?
  11. I used my old yeoman a few seasons ago for duck shooting and used mainly bismuth 32g 5s and got on well with them. Also used the tmx 30g 5s which are ok, bit cheaper than the full tungsten shot. Both were with fibre wads.
  12. Interesting point wymberley, I didn't know about the effects of pellet size on shot string. Motty - Out of interest what sort of percentage pattern could you get in the 30" with the terror choke at 50yrds with BB through the 12?
  13. I bought a duck blind maxus new for last season and got on really well with it. I 'loosened it up' with 28g clay carts initially around 100 or so then into normal wildfowling loads. It handled everything from the clay carts to the 3 1/2 inch steel without fault with recoil on the bigger loads very well controlled. The only thing I did find was that the removable forsight beads can come out easily and lost three over the course of the season which was annoying. Apart from that really pleased and would buy again.
  14. This season I have tried a couple of times with fuds on the edge when after wigeon inland in daylight - difficult to say if they made a difference but I will probably still take them with me in future as they are so compact.
  15. Shot my first gadwall this season - then got another a week later! Shoveler and pintail are top of my 'to get' list.
  16. I shot a teal with it last season on the humber, didn't eat it!
  17. When I patterned them through my maxus with 2" extended half choke they were almost exactly the same (an average of 3 pellet strikes more with the 1's) both with a decent even spread - in light of this I chose to go with BB but would be more than happy to use either.
  18. I'm thinking of selling my greylag hammer if you're interested kent as i've got more goose calls than i need.
  19. After spending most of monday patterning my new maxus with different loads/chokes I will be using #4 with 1/4 over splashes and when out for teal and #3 with 1/2 for all other times. Both in gamebore mammoth 36g.
  20. Visitmyharbour have tidal predictions for the whole year available to view for the majority of locations
  21. I have a cabelas dry-plus wading jacket in mossy oak which got me through last season dry and warm!
  22. I had Daiwa ones that lasted one season before the boot split. Last season I had leeda neoprenes from john norris and have no problems as yet.
  23. A great morning scolopax - I'm glad you've left some as I've got a couple of trips to the river planned for this weekend! P.s. Lie-ins should be scheduled in for February 21st!
  24. PM replied to - should be enough info to get you started
