  1. Hi all, Happy New Year!!.

Been a long time since I have been on here as I gave up my certs due to poor health (knees etc) and lack of shooting time.

Glad to see many of the regulars are still here 😊 site looks a bit different though.

Anyway, may not be shooting anymore, but have realised that my diet is sorely missing pigeon!!

If anyone has any fresh shot or breasted as above they don't need please let me know.

    Happy to pay going rate.

Please PM me if you can help as I may not check back that often.

    Based in Langley Mill, Derbyshire

    Thanks

    Chris

  2. Must admit i do tend to agree with the OP (althou not watched it yet but they are recorded) that british wildlife is largely ignored by 'proper' wildlfie film makers and u only get the numpties from spring/autumn watch that insist on naming every animal they film. Or making documentaries about British wildlife as they see it in all its forms

The other thing which really winds me up is charities/newpapers/tv all appealing for some random big cat/polar bear etc on verge of extinction, yet u never hear a word about any UK wildlife that is on verge of extinction where people can actually make a difference.

Ur scottish wild cat populations of pure breds could be as low as 40, probably makes it 1 of the most endangerged cats in world.

Or even the rted squirrell, sill thriving in scotland at the moment, but i reckon withon the next 10-15 years will not be many left in southern scotland strongholds and if squirel pox gets passed on too the scottish grey squirells they will not last that long.

Yet no one seems to care

Can't be bothered with the rest of this drivel :/

  3. I know it's been a cracking series and as usual the filming's been top notch, especially with the classic Attenborough narration. But why have the British Isles been so roundly ignored? We're an island nation, yet got completely missed off the Islands programme. Now we're looking at cities, and they've gone to New York to film segments on urban peregrines, when they could have done it all in a load of cities here at home. So many missed opportunities to get British people to get interested in British wildlife. But no, because it seems it's not really good enough to get the full Planet Earth treatment

It only goes to perpetuate the myth that Britain's wildlife isn't worth knowing about. I can only feel that this is going to result in more and more disconnect from the natural world for people here. No one is going to bother to be interested in it if it's not seen as worth filming outside of Springwatch, which is so banal these days!

    rant over.

Also of concern with regard to Brexit as a number of our protected species are European protected and not UK so government could decide not to have them on the protected list to enable their continued building on green belt land against the wishes of the populace.

  4. Having iPhone and macbook I assumed the Apple TV was the obvious choice, but having done a search it appears it doesn't cater for the Beebs iplayer. I can get this on my laptop of course but it would be good to watch on a bigger screen. Film 4 is a must, or do I need Freeview at the very least to get this? Sky and BT packages are a definite no no.

Any suggestions, preferences or advice PW'ers?

YIFI torrents and Vuse downloader are your best friends

  5. So here we are again at the time of year to think of friends and family, enjoy the company of our loved ones and forget the stress and turmoil of our lives the rest of the year.

Oh no, apparently every 30 seconds we are being told to feel guilty that Mnoko lives 5 miles from water (move closer), Mnad lives in a war zone (sorry dude) and Henry the dog has no owner.

Fair enough, think about others but why are we inundated with this at Xmas and how is £3.00 a month the magic number to save them all unless the ads are all organised by De La Soul?

Why are they so determined to make us feel bad at the one time of year most people are trying to forget how **** things are?

  6. To those suggesting it isn't censorship, i would disagree.

The message is quite clear, say something that is contentious and you get the sack, that is intimidation to silence unpalatable views, or censorship, by inference it is being denied the opportunity to voice an opinion for fear of having your livelihood removed.

His comments were ridiculous, of that there is no argument, but should an ill informed opinion that has nothing what so ever to do with his professional role as a darts pundit see him sacked?

There have been a lot of ill informed and ignorant opinions on this forum, would any of you who have made them feel aggrieved if you got binned from your job?

There is an argument that because Bristow enjoys a higher profile role that his comments are more widely heard than those on Pigeon Watch, but it's the underlying principle that most hold true, if you express a strong opinion in public then you must face the potential of being sacked.

The size of audience for his comments cannot be a deciding factor in the sanction, it can only be the comment itself.

Almost every time anybody with the remotest public profile makes their opinion heard, if that runs counter to what is deemed acceptable, there is a clamour for them to be sacked. Tyson Fury with his ignorant, in my eyes, but largely culturally formed opinions, was castigated relentlessly and the BBC harangued to drop him from SPOTY.

There is a pervasive and insidious movement to control of freedom of expressing an opinion unless it fits in with some arbitrarily decided set of rules of acceptability.

Arguably Bristow's comments are culturaly formed, it is a product of his social background, his education, the generations from which he comes from, what the pervading opinions were in his formative years, etc

Of course he should try to move beyond his level of ignorance, but if that is to be a measure from which to decide censure then 80% of this forum should be sacked immediately too.

The largest selling daily tabloid that do express powerful opinion or commentary, the Daily Mail, has been under pressure from those pursuing a liberal agenda to stop writing what they do with the automatic assumption that those liberals are correct in what they deem appropriate. No matter that 7 million readers may hold a similar opinion they are not to be allowed the freedom to express what they think because some deem it offensive.

Pressure on Lego, pressure on John Lewis and Waitrose to stop advertising in the Mail, under threat of boycot, because through advertising they fund the publication of a paper that voices something different to the opinion of the self appointed morally righteous. That is sinister behaviour in the extreme.

Go and read about Professor Jordan Petersen in the university of Toronto who is facing censure and a clamour for his reaignation because he refuses to use the made up non gender specific term of "ze" when referring to someone who chooses not to be described as either male or female.

It is a made up word yet the man who has a top class professional record is being persecuted for having the audacity to challenge what is an overt attempt to control the use of language to pursue an alternate agenda.

If you choose to look you will see countless examples in every walk of life, an ever increasing demand for legislation or censorship or censure.

All you have to do is look through the first couple of pages in this forums off topic section, the amount of posts of faux outrage at someone saying or doing something, the bizarre instant gratification that brings for some to be able to vent their spleen about things that in all honesty have no impact on their lives whatsoever.

The more that this type of behaviour continues then the more we gradually cede of our ability to start to speak openly about things that really matter.

How many commenting on this thread have expressed outrage in the way that UKIP or even BREXIT supporters have been categorised, all closet racists, bigots and xenophobes? For expressing an opinion you are castigated in the most powerful language by those who think otherwise.

In this case we decide that Bristow's comments were beyond 'acceptable' so he deserves to be sacked, what about when others decide that your comments about immigration or the EU are deemed to be beyond 'acceptable' will you accept the sack?

What about those of you that love to have a go at the SNP or Jezza Corbyn, should you get the sack because your comments offend some?

Yes Bristow's comments were offensive to some, but to most they are simply ignorant. The danger is that when there is the clamour for the guy to be sacked from those that choose to be indignant then we simply add more leverage to those who do choose to try and control langauge and freedom of expression.

We are not in the public eye and our opinions have no effect any further than the thread they appear in on here.

Being a public figure and having such opinions is a completely different matter.

I have a lot of respect for you comments in the main, but on this occasion I think you are wrong.

  7. He always has been a very outspoken person.yes a little arrogant but he was one of the best in the world in his day.and I am sure his comments will bring in paid interviews and put him back in the headlines for a short while.its all a game you know.

bostonmick - you may well be right. I would quibble with one bit - he was the best not one of.

At throwing small sticks at a large plate!

  8. ***** or foreign (EDIT sorry, murderous muslim extremist) is my guess

Why is foreign allowed but not p.i.k.e.y

How scared are the admin on here?

Not meant to talk about religion etc (heaven forbid we should chat about issues that affect us) but islam is not banned allowing threads to start about it, but when it is about the caravan living thieves it gets blocked.

Had enough of the namby pamby on here forbidding my right to free speech.

10 seconds to 'right on' person reporting, 30 seconds to post removal

OK, I was wrong, my apologies, sure a mod will be along soon to sort it out.

****, just realised I am an angry man!

    Oh the irony

  9. It is within the insurers best interest to persue the undisclosed modification cases! As is the bald tyre issue too! In cases like these, they can nullify your insurance! Therefor, they need not pay out for any claims! And an increase in premium not only for the modifications declared! But for the penalty points on your licence for driving without insurance, and other than in accordance to the licence!

Any modification is to be declared to your insurer! Be it swapping steel wheels for alloys! Changing to flip paint from standard, window tinting, engine modifications "inc tuning, and has flow exhausts" even a tow bar and having LPG fitted!

You would be surprised how many 16 year olds are breaking the law, with their scooters! Having the restrictors removed from the exhaust, and changing the reeds, heads, clutch rollers etc to get a vehicle that is supposed to be restricted to 30mph to go over 50mph! In doing so changing the definition of moped, to motorcycle!

I agree there needs to be something done about the American litigious culture that is springing up in the UK, and the fraudulant claims also! My own insurance company were telling me to put in for whiplash, even though I didn't have the injury? I found that extremely disconcerting to be fair. The Gov are supposed to be putting some kind of cap in place for such claims! Which will supposedly bring premiums down! Then in the next breath hiking insurance taxation? Back in one hand, to be taken out of the other!

Wow, see your point but did you have a number of exclamation points you had to use before they took them off you?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Is it corrupt to have team orders? I've watched bike races where one team mate has let another through to maximise points and a championship win

    :shaun:

So that is three F1 instances in one post, which bike one were you thinking of?

  11. They changed it so team orders are once again allowed

    :shaun:

So basically race for us, potentially risk your life for us, but don't win unless we tell you to?

Why do people watch this pointless corrupt sport?

  12. Are not the leaders and royalty of this country no different. Look back into our history and don't you see that both the kings and queens and parliament of this country slaughtered hundreds if not tens of thousands over hundreds of years to keep their position at the top of the tree. Whether it was Catholics or protests and didn't the church control the public by the trials of anyone who might have been a threat such as the trials of people classed as devil's or witches. It was always said that when the population got to a certain mass that you either had a disease or a war to thin out the population and keep us in the place that we know as our station in life.

Stalin, Mussolini, pol pot, ide Amin, asad, the Greek junta, Gaddafi, the south African government. Hitler, >> the list is endless and isn't just about the figurehead names but an even greater evil has been comited by the foot soldiers of these evil people who did the dirty work quite often with great enthusiasm for their own bent satisfaction or personal gain. Most of the Cuban exiles are jumping up and down so that they can try to get back to reclaim the spoils of the things that they stole from the people of Cuba in the first place. It's all propaganda, smoke and mirrors. Nothing changes its just the faces of the people who are in the driving seat this week. I think that it is called subjugation of the masses such as singling out the ringleaders and hangings. I think that it was Wat Tyler and the peasants revolution where Watt went to talk to the king and a mate of the king lopped off his head and the revolution failed and all of the peasant legged it back home to be sorted out another day. Now if Watt had his head screwed on he would have taken a mate with him tooled up and chopped the king down and the course of history would have taken a different twist. The same as when the Spanish conquistadors led by Cortes chopped out the head of the Aztecs Montezuma and distroyed the national identity and religion and beliefs. I suppose that the first world war was our way of thinning out our masses to a degree where the leaders of our country allowed the flower of a generation to be needlessly slaughtered for no good purpose.

Don't forget shell shocked or just plain overwhelmed soldiers being shot for treason for deserting their posts.

Veterans with issues being ignored, heroes on the streets.

England has always looked after its own, but they have always been the ones behind the lines!!

  13. I reckon one of the cars will come off the track due to some dust on the metal bit on the left and overly heavy use of the throttle trigger.

Due to the amount of time taken getting under the sofa to retrieve the aforementioned car the race will be lost

  14. Because it's all we have and we are unable to change it?

How wrong you are (no offence intended).

These people and politicians are elected and employed to serve the people fairly and without prejudice ensuring freedom and justice for all.

Both have consistently for many years failed to do so.

Unable to change it? I call that apathy from the sheeple.

  15. Don't you think that if he hd been found guilty of "Punching" the infant he would have received a little bit more than the fine that the judge (and by the way, a hell of of allot more informed than anyone on here) had given him.

Put your piano wire back where it belongs and leave those who are in the know give out the sentences.

So you say he was 'not guilty' so why fine him at all?

Those in the 'know' should know that he obviously did something violent to an infant or there would have been no fine at all!!

Did he show his nipple or lift a trouser leg in his defence?

  17. I would challenge anyone in any profession to say that there are no complete oxygen thieves working with them.

I will accept that challenge as I am a self-employed sole trader.

    Oh, hang on..........

If I had pronounced words beginning with 'TH' as an 'F' , at school , I would have been corrected by a teacher immediately.

Just listen to lots of people who pronounce the number Three , as Free' .Thick as Fick', Thought as Fought ,and so on , really winds me up .

Its just basics. Other English speaking nations just laugh at us, and speak English much better than we do.

Chimbley, skellington, baff the list goes on

  18. Why is it that a washed up former footballer and droning commentator has suddenly become a major player in comments on the world stage (apparently according to the press)

Never seemed to have anything to say about anything before
