  1. "English" is not a language it is a mix of dialects. Geordie english is very Scandanavian, you can hear it in the rise and fall, Cockney English is low German. How we speak is governed very much by where we live.
  2. My wifes car has done 4000 miles. Lets just suppose that today, out in the snow she hits a massive pot hole. The tracking is out and it goes in for repair. The garage advise it would be safer to replace the tyre so its done. What ultimately happens to that tyre? Does it get scrapped or does somebody else end up with it on their car? thats the question. Not safe for my wife's car but OK for somebody elses? How can that be right? Just because some tyre fitter wants to earn a little bonus?
  3. I watched it, and it was great, a true classic as you say.
  4. Could be ******, could be chavs. Its not something you can do much about if you don't want to get your head kicked in. Not ideal but don't engage with them. Take numbers and report to police. thats all you can do. And regret the way things are going but stay out of it.
  5. Our local scrap dealer won't take cartridge brass anymore. He says he is "not allowed to" I think its because he cannot move it on. has anyone else come up against this? We used to weigh in sack loads of the stuff but now its sitting in the range gathering dust. As treasurer I have to find a home for it. Its fairly important to our club to do so
  6. There is a friend of mine. a serious target shooter who used to say that cheap ammo was the most expensive ammo you could buy. Up to a point I can see where he was coming from. Whats the point? even if its for plinking? You want to hit the target. privi is great, if you can't buy it go elsewhere.
  7. If you have a job at the moment keep it. this is not the time to go off on your own. seriously. Bide your time.
  8. I would have thought that would have had you wondering on its own. It could be that the wiring is just up the creek. Two oil filled radiators depending on size can chomp their way quite a bit.
  9. This is a common theme with Privi, I don't think the dealers make much on selling them (percentage wise) so they prefer not to stock them. we have a strange situation with my local dealer who absolutely refuses to stock Privi despite quite a few people that I know asking him to get them, and there must be many many more who have asked him as well. He is definitely losing business over it but he won't budge.
  10. The part of North London, Kingsbury, where Gary had his workshop was not too dissimilar to Cuba, if you get my meaning. The suspects for the brake pads was a big dodgy minicab firm almost opposite him. Now if you want to talk about dodgy motors you should have seen some of the ones being used there. I bet they used part worn tyres and to me thats the image it brings to mind. Garages don't throw old brake pads away anymore, people come and collect all the scrap metal these days.
  11. clear Pigeon seems to get the most votes. Three crowns gets mine. Don't buy the cheapest simply because they are cheapest. You only get get what you pay for in this life
  12. As above, where do you go to get best deals? Im looking to place an order for £1000+ and I want the cheapest.
  13. So right, any part worn tyre has to have come off another car. Why? Because its perfect? I don't think so. Not for my family. The cost is incidental. Its not even a question I would consider.
  14. A mate of mine, Gary had a garage in North London. They used to get people turning out his bins knicking the old brake pads. How sad is that? In the end he used to spray them with oil, still they went, amazing what people will fit on their cars to save money.
  15. I don't buy used cars. All my cars for the past twenty years have been new. And incidentallly I don't think it has cost me a penny more by doing it. Offset against tax. For exactly the reasons you state. Why buy somebody's cast off?
  16. I think you guys have a death wish, tyres are all that contact your car to the road. Putting your lives or your familys lives on the line for the sake of saving a few quid seems to me beyond the pale. I have had a tyre blow at 70 mph years ago. It was a front tyre too! Steering went from OK to couldn't hold it in seconds. Only the fact that there was nothing on my inside and road was naturally curving to the left allowed me to run into the hard shouder and into the gravel that saved me. the car, a Granada took a hell of a beating but survived as did I I have a friend Ez Pooni now in a wheelchair whose 2 year old BMW blw a tyre and went over and over on M6 he was thrown out and broke his back.He had a puncture repaired about three months before. Car was a write off. so is he! Lucky to be alive, thats a bit of a question given all the medical problems he has had since. Tyres are vital, don't mess with cheap tyres. for what they cost. Its a life or death issue. Never since Have I skimped on tyres. Only the best since then. You have to be mad to do otherwise.
  17. As it says. I want a case trimmer but I do not want to pay silly prices. Does anyone know who sells one for a sensible price?
  18. Yes its very much the same in Florida, why buy? its an eight/nine hour flight away. And rentals are so cheap. Apart from the flight times the US is so much better value. Just take this as an example. August, we had a meal in "The Stage" a famous restaurant on 7th Avenue in New York just off Broadway. Inside its covered in pictures of famous people, John Wayne, Marilyn Munro, Bogart etc all of whom have eaten there apparantly. We had a nice meal and it came to about £20 a head*. You would pay more than that for oily fish and chips in some tatty Greek Taverna these days. * thats for what we had, we could have ordered a lot of stuff that would have cost a lot more than that.
  19. I'm not sure if that is in yet, I know its coming.
  20. Taking this off topic a bit, My mate Gordon has a place in Spain, he has had it for over 20 years and he paid £4,000 for it and its a big place. His family are over there and they have a business over there. In recent times he has given what turned out to be good advice to people wanting to buy property out there. The advice basically was don't do it. Put the money in the bank and rent instead. He said there is no way a British person dealing with the "British speaking estate agents" can ever get to see property at a fair price. Some prices were just ridiculously inflated. His other reason was not to get tied down because most British don't stay more than a few years, thats if they don't drink themselves to death first. Good advice as it turned out. There are now abandoned properties on the Costas where people have just walked away, can't sell them. But even the tourists are drying up, people used to go there because it was cheap, you could eat out etc very reasonably buy a few bits and pieces in the supermarket. The real truth is that the Spanish package holiday industry from the 70s onward was built on cheap booze and chips. Now its too expensive. We were in Barcelona a few months back, prices made you flinch. Compared to that New York is an absolute bargain
  21. A work collegue did it couple of years back. Death by a thousand cuts is about right. Go to Citizens Advice Bureau PDQ and listen to what they tell you to do. DO NOT talk to any of these companies. They are vultures.
  22. I really wouldn't take the risk. Whatever the story they have a history. When its for your family you would never forgive yourself if anything happened. Its not just the wear, its how old they are. Rubber hardens with age. You can't see it but its there.
  23. This bloke is just a scumbag, he sits on benefits for ten years because his job is writing educational software and he can't get a job?? What an excuse! Stop his benefits, he would soon find a job when he has to. He's pulling a fast one, and there are loads like him getting away with it. Bone stinking idle.
  24. Oh well then, they will have to forgo the booze and fags, and cut back on the mobiles.
