Down here in Cornwall there are hundreds of 'illegal' ie unregistered AirBnBs. Many are DIY conversions of outbuildings, attic rooms, extensions etc with no proper safety inspections or certification. Same in London with the boom in sheds with beds. All cash in hand and no rent book. That's why there needs to be licencing but like with guns it's only the honest ones that are inconvenienced

The trouble with that is you might as well just not vote But you are right, there is an element on the left of the party that appear to just like the sound of their own voices

If Labour got in Starmer would soon be pushed out in favour of somebody much more left wing Momentum hasn't gone away, it's only hiding waiting for its moment

They don't need to, their fleet is still fishing in British waters and nobody is stopping them. We only have two fishery protection vessels to cover the whole country and all the rogue trawlers know exactly where they are at any given time because they all have radios and mobile phones

It might be round your way but here you have a number of Carveries, most notably Toby Carvery, where at 9pm they hand out for £3.50 a huge box of what ever is left over. Obviously it's pot luck but there is often more than a complete carvery meal. They do the same in the morning with the breakfast buffet. A few hotels do the same in the morning.

Yes if you were born in a poor country with no prospects what would you do? When your father dies in most of these countries your oldest brother inherits what little land and possessions he may have had. so you and your other brothers are pushed out to go and fend for yourselves. It's not only Africa , it happens a lot in Eastern Europe too in the poorer rural areas

The pressure behind mass migration is largely human population growth. That's a tricky one to address because there is no easy solution

The polls suggest she is losing popularity fast in Scotland. Her only tactic is to blame Westminster for everything and to try and play the martyr

Cartridges - local or online ……… discuss………
Vince Green replied to Goldfish's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
It's a very tough environment for gunshops at the moment. It's never been easy but right now is just one thing on top of another. -
South Wales RFDs dissappearing
Vince Green replied to smokingdragon's topic in General Shooting Matters
My friend (who is an rfd) says its impossible to make a living purely out of being an rfd. He spends more and more of his time selling non shooting sports gear on the internet these days. He also said another time that rifle ammo sells so slowly that it's not worth tying up money in stock. Except for the four or so most popular calibres he doesn't replace stock when it sells out. On that occasion he was talking about 7x57 ammo I think a lot of rfds are just waiting for the leases to run out on their shops. And I know they are very worried about the lead ban -
And I'm like ... Really grates on me

I don't really get that because the moderator should not touch the crown. I would have to see a more detailed explanation of what he is suggesting.

Some cheap shotguns in auction today!
Vince Green replied to TOPGUN749's topic in General Shooting Matters
Shotguns generally the market is very flat. The number of SGCs has dropped and its getting harder to find anywhere to shoot. All this faffing about getting doctors certificates etc people are just saying it's not worth it -
Group size can be down to many things. Gas erosion is but one of them. There are a lot of other possibilities much more likely. A damn good clean with PROPER copper remover and a different brand of ammo would be my starting point. You won't believe the amount of copper fouling you can get out of some rifle barrels. They have never been cleaned properly, if at all. And on the other hand, rifles with very noticeable gas erosion can, and often do, still shoot perfectly. It's not a given that worn bore equals bad group. Apart from some of the ultra high velocity calibres which do rip the guts out of a barrel. With modern steels and modern powders I would say its almost impossible to shoot out a hunting rifle in several lifetimes. Target rifles are a different story. Some of the practical rifle shooters get through several thousand rounds a year. My mate does, I would say at a guess his rifle has consumed upwards of 20,000 rounds of surplus 5.56mm ammo over the past ten years and he is still happy with the results

A dealer is not a gunsmith. I have said this many times. But I have seen a fair few rifles with barrels that have never been cleaned because the owner never knew they had to. (Or knew how to) Years ago most shooters had been soldiers or In the cadets. Or they had uncles and fathers who made sure the rifle was properly cleaned before it was put away.

No rifle barrel will ever give way because it is "shot out" that only means the start of the rifling has become a little eroded by the hot gasses and lost its crisp edge. It virtually never happens in a hunting rifle. It will happen in a target rifle over a few thousand rounds but its progressive and there may be some loss of accuracy in the final stages or there may not. It never becomes a safety issue
