  1. I can't imagine its a widespread thing but like I said in my previous post, the only motive I can possibly see is to save themselves money. Some people are stupid enough to do anything if there is money involved.
  2. Williams gun sights in America do fixed sights for shotguns but the last time I looked they weren't big on websites.
  3. Our local dump will take dead foxes for free provided thay are double bagged in yellow Bio hazard bags and "dead fox" is wriiten on the outer bag in marker pen. However, all trade waste, cardboard boxes, builders waste , old furniture fridges or whatever incurres a £20 fee. So if you start going in there regularly with dead foxes and Pest Controller on the side of your van its not long before they are going to wise up and start charging you. Easier then to just dump the fox on a rural stretch of road and hope some passing truck is going to flatten it and save yourself the £20. I'm sure different Councils have different rules and different charges but the same principle applies
  4. IMO if there are shot foxes being dumped on the road to look like roadkill the blame probably lies with pest controllers who are dumping trapped/dispatched foxes to avoid having to pay at the local council dump for disposal.
  5. Dogs have all the same personality quirks and mental heath issues that humans have and for all the same reasons.
  6. Camo and ex military kit (eg webbing) is banned at Bisley because too many plonkers liked dressing up. Serving members of of the military and police may wear uniforms and use issued kit only if they are properly turned out and under orders.
  7. A bit off topic but a lot of foreign ships, most in fact, that come into british ports have firearms on them. There is a special maritime exemption that allows them to keep them on board while in british waters.
  8. Lead alloys can do funny things, its the same casting bullets. Every now and then you get a load that just refuses to cast.
  9. Its not only wildfowling clubs where this problem occours. More than twenty five years ago I applied to join a club near me, I was told there was a waiting list but I would be informed. I'm still waiting! Shortly afterwards I joined my present club. Since then I have been secretary, chairman and I'm now treasurer. I was told later it was because at that time I put down that I was a factory worker ( a temporary job) and not a doctor, lawyer accountant etc. Had I been I would have got straight in. Some clubs are just clicky.
  10. Most times its easier just to book a cab to the airport and have them pick you up again afterwards.
  11. I would always go for fibre but thats a personal thing. the only advantage I can see with plastic is that the manufacturers prefer them because they feed easier through their machinery and are cheaper to buy in the vast quantities they use. IMO the benefits of plastic are overstated.
  12. Vhit N140 seems to be the universal powder. The benchmark from which other powders are judged. If I was going to start loading a new calibre and there was a load published for N140 that would be my starting point. Varget seems to be very much in the same league.
  13. YUP! remember them well, came in a box of 200 loose as far as I can recall. I don't think they were bad cartridges but the idea never caught on.
  14. One of the mail order catalogues, I think its called Lakeland do a copper and Brass cleaner bath called quickshine, its a number of sachets of crystals and you put one sachet in water and then put the cases in. They come out like new. Very cheap. then you can store the liquid in a plastic bottle till the next time.
  15. I take them to the local wildlife sanctuary at Rickmansworth and scatter them around inside the hides on the lake when nobody is looking.
  16. As I understand it the person doing the supervising is still legally in control of the shotgun while the minor is using it and so has to be licenced. Plus the minor cannot transport to or from the venue etc on his own so again it has to be done by someone who is licenced.
  17. The point is a SGC for a minor is heavily restricted by the terms and only allows the holder to use a shotgun under the supervision of a named person who is also a SGC holder. Usually the father. The minor still cannot have access to gun eg keys for the cabinet etc. Clay grounds may still turn you away because of their insurance.
  18. A few years back you could have got a variation that would have said something like "ONE rifle in .22RF/ .22RF Mag or.17HMR". Then when you made your choice you would just tell them what you had bought. All that seems to have gone out of the window now but its a shame because there is no reason why they can't still do it. I wonder if it was because people stopped asking for it that way. I know of people (years ago) who would put in for a variation for things like "one rifle in 7.62, .303 or .30-06" and then just wait to see what turned up on the secondhand market in good condition that caught their eye. Maybe we should start doing it again. It used to happen a lot with pistols where people would have slots saying things like "ONE C/F pistol up to cal .455". It didn't make any difference, it was like having an open slot for whatever calibre pistol you chose to buy. But you could only buy one and the calibre ultimately didn't make any odds to them.
  19. You tend to find that gun control is one of those easy touches that low grade politicians can use to raise their profile and get their names in the paper. Like you said, she's after making a name for herself.
  20. Have you tried talking to somebody like The Sportsmans Gun Centre who sell RCBS dies?
  21. £410 is a very good price for a Russian. Maybe you should consider selling it, they are highly sought after by the section 7 shooters. I'm not altogether sure how the law would stand when it comes to firing blanks in it. They are held on an exemption which allows for collecting purposes only and you are not allowed to posess any sort of ammunition for it, by default that could mean even blanks . Its a grey area. The best thing would be to look at the re-enactors who have Martini rifles. I believe, but I'm not 100% sure, they have to have them on an FAC if they want to fire live blanks because they don't have an obstruction in the barrel. Maybe somebody on here knows someone who does it.
  22. The only .44 cartridge firing pistol you can buy off ticket is a .44 S&W Russian. As these usually go for around £1800+ you would be silly to use it for re-enactment.
  23. Its not worth buying cartridges in bulk to save money as the discounts are pathetic against what you have to lay out. Most people buy in bulk to save petrol and time having to keep going back for more. It never ceases to amaze me that people will spend £2000 on a shotgun then phone around to buy the cheapest cartridges they can find without wondering what corners the manufacturers have cut to make them so cheap. Its true though, at my local dealers he says quality doesn't sell, people only want cheap.
  24. You just have a word with your local Eastern European community. The geese will soon start to disappear.
