  1. They were creaming it because we were letting them My late mums carer was a teacher in Hungary. Her husband had to do some sort of National Service when he was about 18 but it was only part time because he was a student. However, just about every National Service Man in Hungary came out with an HGV licence valid through out Europe. Coincidence? I doubt it
  2. The labour market is like a see saw. You are either on the top looking down or on the bottom looking up. Its all about who holds the upper hand. Most of the Eastern Europeans who had to go home did so because they did not have a job. They were on contract at best and many were on agency which is even worse. But they were ripping off nobody more than the British drivers. Same on the buildings, same on hospitality. Even our dustcarts were all manned by Eastern Europeans. That was one of the big gripes for me about Brexit. The remoaners couldn't see then (and it appears still cant see) the harm that was being done Paying a driver £200 a day to deliver a load is peanuts. The fuel is much more than that. Overall it probably costs many times that a day to keep a truck on the road and many loads are worth over a million What ever happened to Knights of the road?
  3. Why should we subsidise the Polish economy by providing employment for their nationals while paying millions of our own people not to work? Thats a plan
  4. Tanker drivers are not on poor terms and conditions. They are on the payroll and probably earn more than an MP. Its true that the value of many jobs was brought down by an over abundance of cheap labour. To the point where it wasn't worth doing them I would feel justified in saying one of the reasons we had to leave the EU was because we were being driven out of our own job markets. So now the supermarkets have to step up their game, not just bleat about having no drivers. Pay the drivers a living wage, train them for their HGV and give them T &C that will make them want to stay. not just say thats the job take it or leave it. If you don't want it step aside because there is a queue of Polish, Hungarian, Lithuanian blokes outside who will be happy to do it for less than you
  5. I actually couldn't get into Asda to go shopping because of the queue this morning . The trouble really happens when the petrol stations start to run out because of excess demand
  6. How is it anything at all to do with Brexit? EU contract drivers dont drive petrol tankers. You have to have a whole list of other safety courses under you belt before you can deliver petrol. They used to be the highest paid of all drivers. and it used to be a closed shop BP have said too many of their drivers have retired
  7. Almost any complete car is worth £200 for scrap.
  8. this is exactly the reason I wont buy or sell vehicles privately
  9. yes - dont do it. You should also note from the link I posted. Those are the sentencing guidelines for magistrates and Judges 1) Effective from 1st of January 2021.so what the hell changed on 1st Jan?? nothing? More moving the goalposts by stealth it appears? 2) It just says a loaded gun it doesn't make any distinction between licenced and unlicenced guns what ever 3) It doesn't in any way define public place. That could be loosely defined as "anywhere" the public can gain access to. as a former magistrate we would often have to retire to look up stuff like this for clarification. Loosely worded laws are one thing but this is not changing the law it is just changing the guidelines. Much more insidious, guidelines are not law but they become law by being adopted Its like you wake up on the 1st of Jan and its a done deal. Faceless civil servants have changed "the law"
  10. A public order offence is committed if your actions cause anxiety or distress to another person. No matter where when or how you cause it. you might also like to have a look at this Firearms – Carrying in a public place – Sentencing (sentencingcouncil.org.uk)Firearms – Carrying in a public place – Sentencing (sentencingcouncil.org.uk)
  11. The Tottenham Chairman used to pay him an illegal £10 bonus, cash in hand, for every goal he scored. He attributes his phenominal goal tally on not only wanting but badly needing that money to get by. He was living beyond his means and that was the start of his drink problems. He became a celebrity football player, maybe the first, but never had an agent and gave interviews and appearences, never got a penny for them
  12. He was one of my heros I've read his autobiography, its quite an interesting story, He never earned the big money that players earn today. When he was top goal scorer for Tottenham he was still earning only double what his brother was getting as a postman. There was no security and few long term prospects back in those days. He thought many times of jacking it in and getting a proper job with a pension. Funny old world, I wonder what he thought of the pay the players get today.
  13. Just be a bit careful if you are looking at an older petrol model. But if you are not doing a lot of miles there does seem to be a lot of older cars coming on the market
  14. Pigeons generally but ferals in particular have very small bodies under all those feathers. You need a dense pattern. I always preferred 7s to 6s for pigeon
  15. Nobody in Government / Sage is in charge of procurement. Nobody in Government has the authority to enact any sort of procurement. It is ring fenced for exactly that reason. It has been for decades. Seems to me you have been reading the loonie tunes antivax websites, many of whom make unfounded allegations of coruption. It is all done by the Civil Service with a mountain of checks and balances to prevent exactly what is being alleged.
  16. They would have more luck if they had some policies instead of cranky ideas. They know they are never going to be called upon to actually do anything so they can say what they like. they are the nothing going on here party
  17. Elderkins used to import a lot of 16bore shotguns from Europe and advertise them in shooting times
  18. They average mobile has something like a hundred thousand times the processing capacity of any of the Apollo Space rockets entire capability

    Laws

Thats all pest controllers can do, their hands are tied. They haven't got FACs and if they had they wouldn't be allowed to keep their guns in their van all day. They have no legal way of economically disposing of the dead fox so a short drive and goodbye Charlie . This is how much things have changed. I am old enough to remember when the official recommendation was drown them in a rain butt. And we did

If you are going to trap it just drive it five miles up the road and let it go
  21. same with me going back and forwarg to Cornwall
  22. Why would I want to do that? Life is too short Henry
  23. I disagree with you. Once a person is granted amnesty/ unconditional leave to remain in any EU country they enjoy all the rights of any other EU citizen.
  24. There was someone on Guntrader advertising an air rifle I wanted very much and I know he was advertising several other air rifles. Sent him a couple of messages but never got a reply back
