  1. Unlike most trades decorators can directly add value to a property so are always in demand by landlords and estate agents. Tatty house? get the decorators in, spend £2,500 and add £10,000 to the value of the property. Thats why they can charge so much, and they do
  2. The ducks in our local park were disappearing over a long period of time and then one was seen swimming around with a crossbow bolt sticking out of its back which rather settled the question of where they were going. People will steal ducks except they often dont regard it as stealing, they just see it as wild food, Same as collecting mushrooms or blackberries in the woods . Lots of them round these parts go after the crayfish
  3. Oh don't get him banned please, I enjoy his little lapses
  4. The French won't take them back without paperwork, and thats the perfect catch 22 get out because there wont be any paperwork. . As the French rightly say the British have no proof they came from France, they could have come from Belgium or Holland or been dropped off by a Spanish trawler. This is part of the reason that the French are extremely careful not to give them any form of documentation at any stage in their journey. That way there is no proof they travelled through France. The migrants are even told by the people traffikers not to have any supermarket receipts from France in their pockets that could give us enough evidence to return them. Its an elaborate game of cat and mouse. The French don't want them there but they know the migrants don't want to be there either. Are they really trying to stop the dinghies sailing? or the lorries being boarded? I don't really see how they could fail to notice nearly 900 people clambering into boats on Saturday. But apparently they did! Yeah right
  5. I witnessed the immediate aftermath of the Papa India plane crash at Staines in 1972 that would definitely be one on my list
  6. But those coming through legitimate migration channels are completely irrelevant to the present discussion. I don't have a problem with them.
  7. oowee as usual is forgetting that every assylum seeker has to be housed, fed, ,clothed and given spending money by law and that their cases often take ten years to process. Thanks largely to the exploitation of the legal aid system by corrupt lawyers . By which time they have put down roots, got married etc. Even bought a cat So its not 6% its another 6%
  8. That is very sad news, I liked him . He spoke about his cancer very openly and very bravely
  9. One who has himself recently migrated to this country in an uncontrolled manner, perhaps?
  10. Oh sticks and stones Henry, you can do better than that
  11. The trouble is, if the authorities are going to do it properly (ie within the law) its a massive job to investigate and disprove even one claim for assylum. So the sheer numbers work massively in their favour by overwhelming the process. The shoe should be on the other foot. It should be up to them to prove they have a case rather than us having to prove they haven't.
  12. that more or less answers the question then. I very much doubt parts would still be available if you did choose to go down that route. Are Roberts saying they will definitely fix it or is that just to have a look at it?
  13. That is not what lifeboats should be used for. They are a charity, manned by volunteers and supported by public subscription
  14. Everybody who eats in a curry house or a Chinese restaurant or has hot food delivered is part of the problem. Or anyone who takes their car to a car wash Don't complain about illegal immigration and then phone for a takeaway
  15. Back in the 70s Dutch fishing boats used to drop Indian illegals on the East Coast from where they were picked up and taken to major cities to work in curry restaurants. Its been going on for decades. In those days I worked for the Docks Board and everybody knew about it
  16. Years ago certain events, most typically DTL , all the shots were taken in the same direction so all the shot would land in basically the same place. A few large tarps pinned to the ground in the right spot could harvest a fair amount of lead over a period of time. At that time 1000 cartridges in those days equated to 70lbs of lead when absolutely everybody shot 32g Several hundred pounds of shot could be collected from a single day's club clay shooting if you were really lucky and that represented a lot of virtually free pigeon and rabbit cartridges for people like me. But however much you actually got it was still free lead shot and thats the key point
  17. This is an interesting take on the situation not necessarily my view but none of it goes beyond the limits of possibility given the CIA's track record in the South American drug trade, who really knows where the truth lies? 6 Questions we NEED to ask about Afghanistan – The Wall Will Fall
  18. This is the real Afghanistan Afghanistan: Money and power drive Afghanistan's opium production - but how will the Taliban wean themselves off the profitable trade? | World News | Sky News
  19. Trump was a delegator, he would have left the details to his Generals. Trump didn't do detail so hopefully there would have been somebody with half a brain doing the organisation. Biden (it is said) just issued the order to go. It happened so quickly they didn't even have time to pack up Yes if you look carefully you can see her lips moving
  20. Afghanistan was a NATO mission. Biden did not just walk away from Afghanistan. Technically he walked away from NATO and that is a whole lot more serious thing to do. Tony Blair described him as an imbecile. I never ever thought I would find myself agreeing with Tony Blair Senile old fool is how I would describe Biden. He showed no signs of understanding the implications of his actions. More recently the PR machine has kicked in trying to do some damage limitation but its too little and too late
  21. Well, all the indications are that when ever there is uncertainty in the jobs market all forms of leisure activities are the easiest to cut back on. For example, I know that membership of one of my shooting clubs has dropped by 25% because the treasurer mentioned it At the sailing club more boats than usual are for sale

That really is the dross end of the business. Like trying to swim up a waterfall. I would rather put my money into Hargreaves Lansdown and get 30% + without having to get out of bed. (And not getting taxed on it until I take it out) People are getting out of BTL in droves at the moment. Just putting my flat in London on the market
  23. No but you can sell it to the Russians who will be only too happy to learn its secrets, download its software etc
