  1. cr123a, what are the other ones like?
  2. ah now thats evil, at least wait til they light up a cigarette afterwards This could be the basis of some great new legislation if Labour is re-elected. Want to photograph a squirrel in the park? Only if it signs a release document giving permission... There could be special local council enforcement officers to ensure that pigeons get the privacy they are entitled to. No more chasing them from your balcony. That would be harrassment. Seriously, these people aren't just harmless loons. With their crackpot ideas they're a real threat to the continuation of our society. got to agree with this one
  3. dont worry about it mate, i maybe came off a bit snappy there, my apologies
  4. when i said scouts i meant the leaders (and if i remember right from years ago they are classed as scouts themselves, or sometimes venture scouts). and please explain what has a fireworks display got to do with channelling kids energy? i know when i was a scout they channelled our energy by getting us to build huts, make campfires, earn badges, etc, NOT by turning the surrounding area into a re-enactment of the somme after 10pm on a friday night, especially when everyones expecting a "spectacular" any day due to the elections next week perhaps whats also annoying me, apart from the fact these arent the local scouts (and so im feeling a bit of "go let your flipping fireworks off in your own area and dont annoy me" syndrome) is that i had two of these "responsible volunteer leaders" in the off licence earlier, stocking up on enough vodka and coke to tranquilise a horse... as for things settling down in this part of the world soon (co armagh), if youre in the military mate you should know thats very unlikely to happen
  5. with you being a doctor could you not just say there was a medical emergency as you were passing, and were bought a couple of drinks to thank you for saving someones life?? woodcock i might be up at it, still waiting to see if anyone else is going, if i do go ill be easy to spot - either propping up the bar or drooling over a gun thats all tactical looking :yp:
  6. na mate no vodka, i havnt stocked up after last weekend
  7. what, you went to the pub because you thought there was a terrorist attack??
  8. :yp: you know me too well, i actually did leave the bit out about walking back into the pub to make sure i wasnt hearing things, but the tv was up too loud for anyone to hear anything :good: now at home, and having realised ive ran out of vodka, am now drinking cider and lime, which is surprisingly nice ps not much down here really steve, the landrovers have been out more than usual and been a couple of checkpoints, but nothing much
  9. animals have rights?! :yp: :good:
  10. just had a bit of a panic as i left the pub, was walking down to the house when i heard two large explosions, followed by a lot of smaller pops, sounded about a mile or two outside town. if you dont watch bbc news to know then theres a heightened security alert over here at the mo, bin a few bombs and stuff lately not far from me. anyway it brought me back to being a kid and hearing bombs and shooting, sounded almost like two bombs going off followed by alot of automatic gunfire, saw a couple of police landrovers earlier so thought maybe theyd been ambushed after a bit of a panic (and unable to get anyone on the phone) i walked back to the house thinking the worst. as i walked up the hill i looked over the town towards the forest park... and a saw a load of fireworks going up then i got a text telling me theres a scout jamboree or something going on down there this weekend im now having a few drinks to recover from my shock (), but after the text messages ive been receiving it seems that im not the only one considering going down to the forest park and planting a size 12 firmly between the legs of whichever muppet is in charge of the fireworks :yp: ah well, at least i now have an excuse to get drunk...
  11. im going for other. started shooting air rifles and did clays once with the scouts when i was 8 or so, but it was only really when joined the cadets that i got proper tutoring - apart from my ma threatening to scalp me if i shot the cat with the bb gun she bought me for my 11th bday :good:
  12. na think it was set up for furlongs... al you should know me well enough by now, as i said above itll only be when i get my eye in and if im happy enough with the damage itll do at longer range. im going to spend alot of time bashing targets (need to find a dishwasher now i think of it...) at different ranges. from what ive seen so far, plus what ive been told, and looking at all the available data it should be simple enough as long as i do my bit and put the bullet where it needs to be, but ill be testing everything out before i go for a rabbit over 150 yards though the coke can is ****** no matter what happens
  13. yep thats true, irish yards measured with a bushnell rangefinder bought from an english member of this site
  14. never said i have nothing to learn, but i do think you need to stop reading between the lines in my posts and jumping to conclusions. who said id be going for headshots at 200 yards on a rabbit?? at 200 yards the hmr is still going at over 1800 fps, with an energy of over 130ft/lbs, the drop is only about 9", easy to work out on a high magnification mil dot scope plus a chest shot (bearing in mind that most of the meat on a rabbit is at the rear) is hardly the most difficult thing in the world at that range; more than sufficient for a clean kill when you consider most 22lr subs, although having twice the bullet weight, have a muzzle velocity of around 1000fps or less now,as for the long shot, a coke can is what, about 6" high and 3" wide? at 300 yards the drop is about 36", 3ft, again not that difficult to work out, and should be possible to do if shooting off a steady platform, like sand bags, etc, on a still day - my 10/22 was busting targets (clays hung on posts) at 187 yards on boxing day (witnessed by 12 people, 2 who are members here) after a few calculations, so 300 yards for a hmr shouldnt be too difficult, esp as mine was turning up 1" groups at 150 yards on the first day i had it out - why do you think i was confident enough to bowl over a rabbit at 130 yards after only putting 40 rounds through the gun? now i wouldnt say i have packed in so much in so little time, but i would point out that although youre shooting 40 years, the hmr and all these wonderful ballistic calculators and rangefinders have only been around for the last few, so perhaps you could do with a bit of a refresher and doing some research into them before jumping on people before you get all the facts think weve derailed this long enough, what scopes is everyone else using then?
  15. no thanks, i have a rule that i only shoot stuff that i can get to quickly to dispatch if necessary, 600 yards would be a bit too far, though i'm flattered by your offer. and who said i bought the hmr just to shoot coke cans? that bet came after buying the gun, one drunken night when trying to study some figures on a ballistics calcultor with a friend im planning on rabbits at 200 yards, shouldnt be a problem as my first kill on my first day after zeroing in was a rabbit at 130 yards, and there might be the odd crow/magpie up to 250 yards too, once i get my eye in and if im happy enough with the damage the rounds do at that range i am sorry i dont live closer, but you should post up in the shooting wanted section, im sure you could get a mentor or someone to teach you how to shoot; admittedly sometimes its a case of either you got it or you dont, but i reckon with a bit of time and effort (and a few hundred rounds) you might be able to push your range out to 150 yards
  16. not honey bees, theyre wasps...
  17. if i was only going to use the ******* thing up to 100 yards id have saved the money and just used the 22lr anyway, who said 300 yards would be on rabbits? i actually have a large bet on at the moment (made while drunk) that ill be able to blat a coke can at 300+ yards with the hmr
  18. fireworks no problems with setting fire to the chimney as well, and you get to scream fire in the hole while doing it
  19. if youve an open ticket why are the cops checking out your land?!
  20. yep we still have pistols. the only time we need signed forms is for a renewal or if adding a new calibre onto your licence, apart from that its just adviseable to have the forms signed incase theres an argument with the farmer, etc. it does seem we get off lightly compared to the rest of the uk, but then again we dont have sgc's, only fac's, every gun has to be added by the cops (inc shotguns) which can take months - my first application took 9 months, and at the mo some people are waiting 6/7 months to get a gun added to their licence
  21. hogweed, as in the giant stuff? thought it was poisoness, or is there another type?
  22. is that aimed at me? if so its a bit incoherent were talking about me letting someone use MY gun on land I have permission on, look up the law, as i said it states the occupier of the land (me) can let someone else use the occupiers gun (mine). as for the incoherent bit at the end most (if not all) FAC's in northern ireland are open, so we dont need the police to clear land (i dont anyway), its up to myself whether or not the land is safe to use that type of gun. and as for my friend turning up and using their own gun on one of my permissions, well thats entirely up to the farmer. most of them are happy with my judgment on people shooting as long as i'm there with them. so how am i going to end up in prison?!
  23. as long as you are the occupier of the land its ok. problem is it doesnt specify what occupier is, way i see it im the occupier as i have shooting rights so not a problem
