  1. Chatting with a mate a few weeks ago about this subject and we came to the same conclusion. There is an obsession with multi choke guns now which the gun makers have responded to....result total confusion and lack of confidence! As said 1/4 and 1/2 is IMO fine for just about anything. Obviously dedicated wildfowlers shooting at extremes may choose a a tighter choke. Mine has 1/4 and 1/2 and had a fantastic day on really high fast birds last week...the same gun on decoying in the summer was perfect.
  2. Top stuff Mark, good shooting and as said stunning scenery, great pics.
  3. Just to lighten the thread a bit, I was out on saturday and shot 50 flighting into woodland. We have had frozen ground here with a dusting of snow here and there since before xmas. I would guess that two maybe three birds were lean, not thin though, but the rest were amongst the largest fattest pigeon I have ever shot. Way more plump than summer birds. Whilst breasting them, there was a huge amount of yellow fat surrounding the breast meat, more than I have ever come across before. Interestingly, we have a lot of rape around here, but the crop contents were, I would guess 75% ivy berries, the remaining being equal proportions of rape, maize, and strangely wheat. I can only assume that is from the keepers spreading it out in large quantities for the pheasants. Just looked at your post Motty....could have saved the typing!
  4. Even more of an offer...come on lads these opportunities don't come around that often.....use the swine flu excuse!!
  5. Saw it last night. Are we losing the battle to these tree huggers? I bet the Scottish gamekeepers ar thrilled about the wild cat breeding by the same bunch. Lovely people, they even fed the cats chicks lest they should lose the idea, un believable :

    recession

Get yourself down south. Am just finishing a small extension. Plumbers, no-one interested, 4 plasterers promised to come and quote, only one turned up. Was happy to plaster out a 2.6mx3.5m room and lay screed all materials supplied for 1750+vat! Three roofing company's same story. The only one to show up in the end still hasn't finished the job 7 weeks on! Don't despair mate go where the work is. They dont know how lucky they are down here and deserve a wake up call. And besides we have Cheyl Cole down here now and if that isn't a good incentive!!! ATB.

  15. Look up impetigo, maybe this is what your dog has. Mine was diagnosed with this as a pup..common apparently. Here is a link that might explain it, but as always best to consult your vet. Good luck. http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4693958_impetigo-spread.html
  16. Chatting to a friend today who is looking for the best air rifle he can get within his budget of £200. Pcp's obviously out of his range,so its a springer. Can I have some feedback with ideas and also if there is anything out there for sale. Ideally .177 and with enough ft lbs to deal with bunnies and pigeon on his fathers smallholding. Thanks in advance.
  17. excellent,well done guys....
  18. Had an hours walk round today and only bagged two pigeons for the dogs supper.... one was quite a slim one with nothing in its crop, the other was completely the opposite....very healthy and plump. Its crop was stuffed to bursting with well over a mugfull of rape..pictures don't really show how much there is. Small wonder the damage they do to crops in large numbers. The plate is a full size dinner plate!!!
  19. always a joy to see dogs retrieving especially pigeons cos of the loose feathers....well done with the training.
  20. Well done..........Rape down here in the south is 15 inches high due to the warm wet weather.....interesting difference!!
