  1. I joined for sound advice from well established rough shooters... and I got exactly what I needed. And it's a damn good laugh too
  2. Hello mate - and welcome to shooting! First of all, everyone is entitled to own a shotgun licence, so providing you haven't been in major trouble with the rozzers in the past, or had previous bouts of manic depression, you honestly shouldn't have any problems. The bnest thing to do will be to discuss these concerns with your local Firearms Officer, and explain about the gun cabinet. But in all seriousness, if your past is clear, and you have a good reason for wanting to own a shotgun (like taking up clay shooting) you shouldn't be refused, so you'll only end up buying one anyway!!! Licences don't last for a year - they last for ten or 15. I'm not entirely sure to be honest, and mine's locked away so I can't check right now! And yes - once you have a licence, you can turn up at any public shooting ground and hit (or miss) some clays. All the very best - and don't worry about it. Sure your application will go just fine mate
  3. I hope you're right mate. The fluffy and feathery fellows could do with a break after last year's extreme winter
  4. Spotted a magpie collecting nesting material today... 13th Feb! This is definitely the earliest I have ever seen a bird start planning to breed. Or maybe he was trying to pull a bird for Valentine's Day? Anyone else spotted any activity like this so early in the year?
  5. Agreed with Nick above. Premier Elements (dead cheap) or Premier Pro will do everything you ask from them
  6. I certainly wouldn't sell it all. Having worked in the angling industry for over a decade it's amazing how many blokes lay off it for ten years or more, then suddenly get the bug again and they absolutely love it again One thing I regret selling is my huge collection of The Cure stuff. Singles, limited edition 12 inch picture disks, posters, a gold disk, all sorts of stuff that took me years to source and collect. Sold it for stupid money to help get me through college. Still... never mind
  7. Hello all Been watching numerous greylags and the odd Canada grazing on wheat this last week, alongside a local mere. Just wanted one goose this season, and have missed waaaaaaay too many times over the past few weeks, so thought I'd make use of the last day of the season. Crept between the mere and the field, using a hawthorn hedgerow as cover. Almost got into position under the flightlione, but was spotted by three geese on the mere which honked and scarpered, triggering many more to take to the air in a panic. That set the flock on edge on the field, and they took to the air and spread out - about 200 of them, about 300 yards out, heading in all directions. Thought my luck was out as the geese headed across the field, still way out of range, but suddenly a handful broke off, turned and came in close, picking up speed and flying across. I picked one out - the closest at about 45 yards out - gave it about 8ft of lead and KABOOM. It folded and dropped, stone dead. Had another shot at the next, but in all honesty I was so bloody shocked with the hit and clean kill, I screwed up the second shot. But that don't matter - I only wanted the one anyway. Seriously chuffed with the clean kill. Without doubt the best shot I've ever had. Gun was an MK70 Sport. Choke was Quarter. Cartridge was Remington 3ins Nitro Steel Magnum No2 shot. So... what do all you goose experts reckon? Pluck and roast the whole bird, or breast it and bubble it in the slow cooker? Thanks for reading
  8. No - it's a privately owned animal rescue centre housing exotic 'pets'. Popped there for a couple of hours with the air pistol this afternoon, just to get a feel for the place, and had 24 rats. It's absolutely alive with the damn things
  9. I had a load of frozen rabbits that needed a good home, so I rung a local exotic animal refuge place to see if they would come in useful for the raptors. Turns out they have a Lynx, and the rabbits are perfect for it. Took them there this morning, loaded them into their huge freezer and after chatting to the owner, it turns out they have got a huge problem with rats who have moved in under all the huts and cages, and basically nick the porcupines', monkey's and lynx's grub. So, even without offering, the owner virtually begged me to come down and shoot the damn things! My shooting life seems to get wierder. Started off on a clay ground, then to standing knee deep in mud on the marsh, then farmers fields, then 6 weeks ago a garden centre poly tunnels overrun with rabbits, and now a zoo! Love it !
  10. Now reduced to £140, for quick sale Thanks for looking
  11. I'm in two minds about this. Part of me thinks why the hell should our Government provide monetary aid to another country when we've got so many problems of our own? But the other part of me wholeheartedly believes that the people who will gain the aid have more right to it than any of us. Because they aren't tearing apart this beautiful planet like we do - all they are doing is just trying to survive.
  12. Hello fella Here's 37 fisheries in your county, so there might be something here that fits the bill... CLICK.

Ah well... he might have some bloody odd views and is definitely an odd case, but I'd rather listen to the worst Smiths album (Strangeways) all day long than anything by Bruce Springsteen. Still... I have to give Springsteen credit where it's due. To sing that well after a stroke is damn fine work

Ah - good old Morrisey. The bloke's a legend in my book. One of the funniest, most cynical and witty lyric writers ever
  15. It took me 5 purple ohms to do that. Never been the same since.
