  1. Hello everyone :look: It's been a while since i've posted but i have been keeping a keen eye on things... I think my application was around ten days from posting the app., the visit and licence back to the door ...but i think it was mostly to do with the fact that i was applying as a necessity as i was starting as a hobbyist underkeeper and he already knew the shoot owners and the headkeeper(lucky me) Oh yeah, nearly forgot...this was in the Gwent and S.E Wales constabulary.

I must agree again pin, the way wales were going into the ruck was very impressive but as one of the members have said.....we both need to up the anti quite a bit if either team are to make a challenge in the world cup series. I don't follow any other games except for the nations cup and world cup, I might watch the ospreys or the blues now and again if they're competing for the title against one of their rivals but not a big fan at all. Worst of all I didn't want the french to win the cup .....my comiserations to the irish if there's any out there, bad luck guys. They deserved to win most of all after only having three tries scored against them

Your right pin but with so many losses at least we beat our old rivals. I agree about the commentators, got a bit shirty at one point The thing is my dads english, from brummy land actually but whenever england beats us he makes a real big song and dance about it...soooooo here's back at ya pops.

  5. Thanks for the advice but I'd rather do what I'm doing now. I have spoken to some of the guys from Rentokil and read what you describe as the roll involved but I've felt a greater achievement in providing some sporting shooting to the syndicate of guns on our small shoot, being able to stand back and watch as the birds I've helped to rear from poults up to adults, what with the dangers and peril they are subjected to due to our weather and predation, seeing them flying hi and fast with plenty of meat to them. I just think it's more on a personal note rather than being a figure that comes and goes to eradicate some vermin from an office or factory. I'm not afraid of doing paperwork but I can gather more experience and knowledge doing the practical side of things instead of reading and writing about the theory behind it. I wouldn't want to work for Rentokil then at the moment, sounds like trouble is looming.... If I were to go into that line of business I'd want to work for myself, never know whats around the corner?? Cheers for the advice anyhoo.
  6. Hey, as long as it works and it looks as though it does just that  Nice bag.
  7. Alas gents. Are we sitting comfortably....... Last year I met up with an old friend(not that old really) and discovered that he was the keeper on a small shoot not too far away from where I live. After a chat over a pint, he has allowed me to work alongside him carrying out keepers duties, all of which as you well know contain pest & predator control as well as other duties like feeding the birds, repairs and so forth but I've been with him for the past year now. It's been absolutley amazing, organising beaters, catching the partridge for release and now this year I've just applied for my shotty cert again after seven yrs of abscence. In time I'm hoping to get my FAC for the charlies but overall I'm thrilled. Also, the keeper and his wife are having their first child in a few weeks so there is talk of having a much larger roll to play. HAPPY DAYS!!!
  8. It's something we're not used to seeing deako and i just think there are other forums for that sort of hunting. After all, this is supposed to be about hunting british species or relatives close to them, albeit in this country or others and without a shadow of a doubt, i would've dropped like a sack of **** after filling my trolleys to catastrophic levels, several times in as many seconds
  9. I know what your saying sarge and rob, i can see the conservation side of it. I guess it's no different to the game farming what we do, it's just on a much larger scale and yes, mark one up for the animals. Close range shooting like that must have it's drawbacks, you miss your dead!! Not my cup of tea
  10. :< That's ******G ****!!! :< One, why do people go looking for these blood thirsty types of hunting videos and two, i did'nt think that hunting rhinos whether on safari or whatever is exactly legal. With this sort of footage, if it was illegal, can't that be used in a court of law as evidence??? LATER.......MUCH LATER!!!
  11. Four mags in .177, like new and never been used. £18 each all the way, from my door to yours.....bargain Sold
  12. Welcome Bobfly, your surnames not church is it??? :o Just kidding. I guess you do a bit of fluff throwing eh Wise to steer clear of the logun penetrators, i've heard rumours that they're bad for thebarrel as they're not made up of lead but thats just what i've heard Regards Jas
  13. A moment of pure boredom eh highlander
  14. Riothedog, you've just added a ****load of coal to my furnace. I've got my nose in the book, the theory test book that is. Don't do foxes YET have'nt got the right licence. The cards i had made are laminated so theres not much chance they'll get ruined by the rain. I think they are very good value for money. Only cost a tenner plus 2 postage for 50, yes 50 of them in a neat little plastic box. . Thanks for the encouragement and hope your doing well in the capitolism thingy and still do a bit now and again.
  15. Well , there's a number of differing opinions. Funnily enough when i approached one of the assistants at Litts in newport and asked him about cleaning my barrel you should've seen the odd look he gave me. He further told me of the S400 he owned and that he never once cleaned the barrel, like some have suggested, only done when the accuracy went awry. What gets my goat now is that i've spent £20 of my hard earned cash on an item of equipment that will, by me, never get used because in theoretical terms this is not intended for use on PCPs because of the rubber 'O' ring seal. Oh well, it's all a learning curve :*) Hang on, what about protection against corrosion inside the barrel?? Surely you can't just spray summut like VP90 or similar down the barrel or would lubing the pellets add the protection on the way down?? Don't know if there is any difference but i wash and lube the pellets before use using warm water and the Napier pellet lube BUT after reading the article on page 37 in Julys AirgunWorld i think i might try using a few drops of 3-in-1 instead. What d'ya reckon?? Oh and last of all, thanks all for your advice and experience.
  16. I think i'm too old for the gamekeepers course or job rogo :( sadly enough. On the pest control officer front, i'd agree with you rjimmer that as a one man band it would be far to hectic. About working for a firm as you said such as Rentokill, there is an officer or two that regularly wander around my workplace, i have approached the senior officer and probed him (no, not that sort of probing )about a career as a PCO but he could'nt offer any useful advice. It would be pucker working for myself being my own boss but i'd prefer to grab my tools, do the job and go home at the end of the day and let someone else do the worrying and all that paperwork. I know for sure my job satisfaction would'nt suffer, not like the vermin i'd be putting to rest
  17. Pete k, is that LANTRA an organization of somekind or training body that specifies in agri-training? Alrite rogo, are you descreetly telling me that the college isn't upto it or are you simply saying you did'nt fancy that sort of career?? Did you finish the course??

    pellets

Hi karl w I have an AA S410k which i understand works best with their own brand of pellets but a friend of mine has informed me that when loading the mag, the pellets should need a gentle finger behind them to help them into the mag but when i load my mag with my pellets i can literally drop them into the holes, if i turn the mag upside down then they fall back out. Now, i'm sure i've read somewhere that the pellets should'nt be tight because it may cause damage to the skirts as it travels down the barrel which will put the accuracy out. Try to identify which sized pellets apart from their weights work best for your gun. Good luck and good hunting
  19. Do you or your mate use any of the kit like the cleaning pads and barrel cleaner or just use white spirits, also do you lube the barrel afterwards or leave it to dry? Any break barrel airgunners looking for a cleaning kit
  20. I need some help I'd like to be able to give the barrel a good clean on my S410k with the 'Logun' kit i've just bought but i don't see how it's possible to clean the barrel with the brass wired brush unless i insert it at the muzzle end but that would just push any particles that may be in the barrel up towards the breach and firing bits, so, is it possible to remove the barrel from the rifle and can i do so with the chamber fully charged??
  21. Cheers HV I do remember these rifles from when i was a teenager and for them to be still as precise as when they arrived on the scene years ago it only advertises the fact that they ARE so well engineered and well built it speaks for itself. Now i'm a bit older and a little better off, i want to get the rifle of my dreams but i'm a little uncertain about whats the max size of scope allowable on the new theobens, some say 44mm on the standard scope mounts supplied, others go bigger but then you need to add a riser bar for the objective lens which then you'd need some adjustment on the cheek piece. It's all the little stuff, the personal feedback that matters as much as the spec of the gun, i wish the adverts would say a bit more about that, i know how brilliant these rifles are by looking at the price tag then again you get what you pay for. Cheers for your input and happy hunting
  22. Yes, i agree. A change of heading maybe would notify people it's there only to offer advice.
  23. Hi fellas Don't think it should be taken out because as you can read, there are some threads that get quite a bit of attention but if people just join to gain and not take part, then leave because they take offence at being ignored then frankly thats their loss. I don't believe for a minute that people are ignoring all requests for shooting permission but simply that it's difficult or there are rules layed down by the landowner, not to forget that most people are total strangers to each other so theres a matter of trust involved. I SAY NO, it stays!

    THEOBEN

Hello hawkeye You mention you had the older original model?? Is there a newer version out now with a curved trigger ? I think i too would have trouble with the blade trigger, imo i think to me it would lack the feel. Did you have it on fac or standard?? Also did you clean the pellets first or regularly clean the rifle instead?? And you say it's quiet eh :yp: Was the barrel standard or did it have an additional silencer? Sorry to go on a bit, just want to make sure i make the right choice I do like the look of the MFR i must admit, the fore-end is nice looking, ggenerally the whole design. Cheers mate Jas
