  1. I have been away a while, one of my permissions is still not letting me on but txt to say he was finding dead rabbits with no obvious sign of what killed them unless it was part of some alien experiment its guess work but perhaps another nasty virus that effects them. anyways as i sit waiting on foxes to show with decoy1979 he suggested i post and see is anyone else knows of similar
  2. I still despair at the rubbish that is being passed off as Wildfowling kit and in particular netting/blind to be used as hide on marshes and reeds. I have been making my own for years but now I cant even get the dried grass to add some realistic patterns. Top of my current "I hate" list is the stamped out stuff that has a pattern one side yet the underside is plain or worse white....... In the USA they get lots of choice and all we get is Cr^p

  5. I went for a walk with the dog (no gun) round one of the wildfowling shoots at the weekend and got bitten by mozzies ......
  6. so this one kind of sits between a couple of threads so I have gone for general matters that way it will doubtless stir up a few more than if in either game/fowlers Last night I had what started as a bit of a lecture from a Game shoot owner regarding me allowing my flight pond to be shot from sept. I have rented it to a syndicate this year as I don't have time to organise things myself and get fed up with people saying they are coming then not turning up putting me out of pocket and a waste of my time. The debate revolved around his dislike of birds being shot early season despite it being legal. At one point he mentioned he was inclined to protest with the local anti. He said he had contacted BASC about getting the fowling season put back a month as there are often young birds about and that the response had been no "Real" Fowler would shoot in sept. Personally I cant see BASC taking this stance. I reminded him I control Foxes for him and asked if I should wait until they reached a particular age I also said the syndicate had an agreement with me not to deliberately shoot at young birds if at all possible subject to identification and a host of other restriction one of which was not to shoot at snipe or Game despite them being on my land. I also reminded him that he has a pond he puts ducks onto and then on shoot day (Nov onwards) the game shots surround the pond and they all shoot with lead carts. We often see blerb about this and how game dealer checks turn up ducks with lead shot in them but I would wager they are all from game shoots that have a pond. I accept this is a tad controversial and I am not pitting one discipline with another. Personally I don't go fowling until Oct and that's due to a mix of things but whilst its legal folk can and will make there own choices which they are perfectly entitled to do.
  7. Just taken the time to read each candidates Bio, the only one that sticks out beyond all others is the lad in Scotland Eoghan Cameron..... his last paragraph about defending our sport is spot on and his belief that social medial must be used to our community best advantage is again bang on. If we are to attract young people both girls and boys into county sports we must embrace the means by which they communicate and that means a presence on various social media platforms weather we like it or not. Any new comers are not always going to be standing in a circle with a pint of real ale and pipe discussing the merits of any given aspect of a day in the field. I recently undertook some agricultural pesticides courses to comply with new legislation and the college was rammed full of young folk on various agricultural / county related courses such as chain sawing and horsey related and many looked about 18 to 20 range. Cant say I saw any posters or flyers representing shooting sports web sites/ media or BASC for that matter (it may be I was just in the wrong place) but at least young Mr Cameron seems to have it on his agenda which is a good thing in my book
  8. As my wife has sight of a few Goose flight lines on her way to work she rather helpfully updates me of any movements from time to time....... So recently she has been telling me about large numbers of "Pinks" crossing the coast looking like they are heading out to sea, but in a long line not the normal flight pattern expected! due to cold weather I set off early for work and made a minor detour and to see if I could get some idea of these Pinks...... what comes over is about 250 Cormorants in 2 tick style formations which each bird beak to tail all nice an neat. Not wishing to question my good ladies observational skills over supper when asked I simply said I had seen her Geese thanks for letting me know...... I have seen big numbers of Cormorants before on the River Alde in the past but it was quite something of a spectacle, but most likely not a happy one for any local commercial fisheries or pond owners!

  15. much the same as you Harnser, no mud bugs for me but I had to gather cockles from the mud flats near Horsey Island (you learn about tides quickly) we also had to go fruit picking on the local farms in season with mum who some how held down about 4 cleaning jobs and seasonal work towing 4 kids about at foot. at 13 I did golf caddie jobs sat and sunday mornings at Frinton golf club and 2 paper rounds I then left home at 16, 2 weeks after leaving school had my first flat aged 18 and my first house aged 21 I guess in part as I knew how to look after myself and was prepared to take risks some of which worked others did not but I learnt from mistakes some I fixed others I repeated

  19. gents anyone know the best cable route to get the tails into the cab ? I have a number plate cam that looks a fairly easy job to pick up the connections off the rear wire loom in the light cluster but I have to get the connectors to the dash mounted screen into the cab somehow and they have plug terminations so not an easy squeeze... first look round I can see a grommet in the engine bulkhead going to the driver side fuse box but I am thinking it may be best to avoid in case I nick a wire any ideas?
  20. had a day off on Friday and fancied a days shooting so got in touch with a local outfit I have been with a few times now Anglia sporting, met up for breakfast in a local pub and very nice it was too! then off to a piggery and had to flip for my shooting position and got set up....... it was steady shooting all day and I ended on 102 for 2oo carts so happy with that..... I had to shoot up some old Rio carts I just don't like so I fitted the Xtreama II with my tight wildfowling choke and that was the right decision as I either missed or totalled..... [/url]">http://
