  1. That money might buy you a BSA Lightning XL which is a far nicer rifle.
  2. I never got on with Beretta OUs but after trying a Browning 525 I had to have one. Some people seem to get on better with one or the other of the 2 brands. I've had mine since 2008 and it is a keeper. If the gun fits you & you are confident with it, you won't go far wrong. Maybe check out guntrader for used prices? How much does your friend want for it?
  3. Stood amongst some laurel waiting for magpies with my shotgun when a large female squirrel appeared on an ivy-covered oak about ten yards in front of me. As it paid the price of its indiscretions another scuttled around the tree. I waited for about twenty minutes and the second one, a male, emerged from the ivy to look at me, which was its last glance. I set them out in the field hoping to lure a magpie. Two came into the adjoining trees but only one came down to the bait. I waited for the second to join it, but the first one spooked so I got neither. Sorry not airgun but next time....
  4. Another great video, inspired me to get out on the magpies around the farm soon. Looks like 12 ft lbs will be more than enough for this, especially if I can hide in a farm building and zap them at a reasonable range. Interesting to see the variable power in action in the field too. Thanks!
  5. Had a fun morning drey poking in the snow today. Three guns and a pole master .. got 9. 710
  6. Thanks @Ultrastuand @Mice! I'll stick with my .22 then - 16 gn AA DF do a more than adequate job at the sort of ranges I need.
  7. I'm looking forward to getting back into the woods now the pheasant season has finished. There's a feeder to repair, and we're having a drey poking day soon. I wondered if anyone uses FAC-rated .25 cal on squirrels? Would limited pellet choice make it best to stick with .22? I presume .25 uses more air as well.
  8. Nice stuff, unusual sort of permission I would imagine.
  9. I've enjoyed it, but have something better now, so time for a new home... hopefully
  10. 12 bore Gunmark Merlin by Vincenzo Bernardelli 27" barrels, 70mm (2 3/4") chambers. Choked quarter and half, fixed. Double triggers, boxlock ejector. Articulated front trigger and hidden third bite. 14 3/4" length of pull with original hard plastic buttplate fitted. 2 spare rubber buttpads to lengthen this to suit. 6lb 4oz - a fast, lightweight game gun. Some slight tarnishing of the chrome-lined bores but no pitting. Bluing is worn where the left hand holds the left barrel, otherwise a few small marks to be expected of a used 1974 model. Stock has had an oil refinish at some point, but I suspect it was originally varnished. Some minor use marks. £175 ono Located in South Glos near BS36 1RD
  11. I think I have some spare screws which would fit the GAMO trigger, it is not the same as a BSA trigger. Ping me your address and I will put a couple in the post. I had to polish the end of the screw to make it smooth. Alternatively you can take off the barrel band and try the screw from that.
  12. I have a GX40 Adding a slightly longer screw to the trigger adjustment transforms the trigger, there is a lot on AGF about this. It's been reliable and is extremely accurate. I would have another quite happily. I removed the barrel band because it was prone to knocks and would therefore affect zero. Free-floating the barrel has shown no adverse effects. The bolt pull has to be quite positive though, so maybe not great for a younger person.
  13. I have a SX3 with 3.5" chamber which cycles 28g or 24g clay cartridges fine as long as they are 70mm. It can misfeed 65mm or 67mm clay cartridges It seems happy enough with 67mm 30g pigeon cartridges though. I am very pleased with the gun overall.
  14. See sections 2.25 onwards of the official Firearms Security Handbook 2020 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms-security-handbook/firearms-security-handbook-2020-accessible
  15. Thanks @ratchers in a red squirrel zone I am sure the investment is very worthwhile! Keep up the good work.
  16. @ratchers good work. Which hikmicro did you go for?
  17. It is worth checking home insurance. In about 1996 I had an inexplicable ring bulge just in front of the monobloc joint on the bottom barrel of an E.Rizzini OU, which wrote the gun off (a bit scary really, good job I clean the guns after every outing & had spotted it). My gunshop wrote a letter about it and supported a claim for accidental damage on my contents insurance, which paid out the £399 new cost of the gun subject to an excess. I then bought a Lanber which is still in regular use.
  18. @Wylye lols.. AJ Smoker Smith eh!
