  1. Yes and no to all your questions there! It depends very much upon the mag of the scope as far as the open sights are concerned, if the scope zooms down to 1.5-2.5x, you will most certainly be aware of them, but even then, they will not obscure the target. The higher you mount a scope from the bore line, the more critical alignment and cant become. Cant is best described as the angle you hold the rifle in relation to an imaginary vertical line in front of you. Alignment can be how far to the left or the right the centre line of the scope is to the bore of the rifle. And at the risk of worrying you more, you have to ensure the crosshairs are vertical in relation to the bore of the barrel! But don't worry, there are many ways to ensure you get all these right. Once set up correctly, having a high mounted scope has a long range advantage, it effectively flattens the trajectory of the pellet at longer ranges. The downside is that you have to aim off more at close range, and also you will probably have to lift your head higher to see through the scope, and this can lead to parallax errors. If you intend to use the rifle for hunting, I would go for the 44mm objective. For scopes and scope mounts I would highly recomend this site; http://www.opticswarehouse.com/acatalog/Te...pic_Sights.html Their price on the Sportsmatch one piece adjustable is the best I've found.
  2. I wish I could train at least one of our dogs to do that........
  3. Does anyone have a copy of that spoof Ford Streetka advert, the one with the cat?

Rimfire's right, people kill people. Carrying a knife should carry the same sentance as carrying a firearm without good reason does, 5 years minimum! This is a country where you get 4 years for stealing 1.5 million from a big company (with another 7 years if you fail to pay it back) but only a few months if you kill someone whilst driving a car :o America has it right, 3 strikes and you're out. The media makes America out to be a crime ridden place where people are gunned down left, right and center, but the truth sems to be that the UK has more crime.
  5. I think the base oil will be a silicone, but it has polytetraflouroethylene in it too (PTFE). Don't use too much in the piston/compression chamber, it still diesels if you put too much in. Have a look at this http://www.abbeysupply.com/page4.html

It is tragic, and there are indeed moves to put yet more restrictions on the sale of knives such as hunting and survival knives, even swords are under the spotlight, how often are these used in crime? When you look at the price of such items, you have to wonder if a chava intent on doing harm or commiting murder is going to buy a hunting knife or just get a knife out the kitchen.
  7. In fact, the arrangement is somewhat like Lindford Christy's shorts :o Shhhhhhhhhhhh! Thats the wifes banana Jonno
  8. Try setting your zero at 10-12 yards! This will be easy, as you will see the pellet holes easier and you don't have to walk so far to change the target. The pellet flys in an arc, so if you zero it at close range, it will be high, by about an inch, at 25 yards, then dead on again at 30-35 yards. It all depends on the weight of the pellet. What pellets will you b using?

    Price Fixing

Hello peck (of Rimfire Central?). I have had a fair bit of stuff from the states, and only had to pay tax twice, but never 40%. The worst was Brownells. who charged me more for p&p plus local tax (which I don't think I should have had to pay) than the goods I was ordering, and the second was UPS, who have set up in the UK and collected the postage and tax from me, which worked out at less than 24%, so I was still well in. Must be luck of the draw?

  12. Don't do it!!!!!!!!! There was an article in Airgun World recently about gas-rams. Apparently putting a .177 strut in a .22 rifle is a no-no, not just because it may send it over the limit, but because it will bottom out and the strut will get damaged. Having said that, I had a .22 strut in a .22 Vulcan a few years ago, and it was doing 14ftlbs. I had to do a bit of work to get the power down to within the legal limit, but the rifle was a pleasure to shoot. I have one in a .22 Lightning (basically a modified Supersport) and it seemed a bit sharp. I was going to re-fit the spring, after giving it a good polish. A Superstar I had was doing 12.8ftlbs on a worn out spring, you could cock it with your little finger! That was done with a good tune-up and a £1 coin in the piston, the same will work on your 'sport, they all use the same 'boiler room'. The export versions do about 16-17ftlbs so they can take it, but in the current anti-gun climate it is unwise to breach the 12ftlb limits.
  13. Hello jonno 357, nice collection :o What barrel is that on your 1022? Do you find the comb a little low for a scope? It looks as if you got a later model CZ to mine, I had to change the butt-pad as it was plastic, fitted an adjustable one which gave a better length of pull, Roger at South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies said he could have sold my rifle a dozen times over when it was in getting the barrel cut down and threaded, I will get a picture posted as soon as I can. Found one from before the barrel was done....
  14. Hello Hubertus. It's a lr. I also have a Cz in 17HMR, but I have been thinking of changing it for a 22 Magnum. In the UK we have to apply for each different rifle, and have a reason to own it. It is vitually impossible to own a handgun now if you live on the mainland, and we can only have semi-automatic rifles in 22 rimfire caliber. The government is reported to be looking at allowing us to have 17 semi-autos, but they will probably hit us with more draconian legislation to go with it. We are supposed to have a right to own a shotgun, though that right has been erroded by each government over the years. Is it true that you may own assault rifles, as long as they are not black?
  15. I tried to upload a picture earlier and it wouldn't, so I went into the 'Edit' option and reloaded it, and it worked.
  16. I don't know about the heat absorbtion because I live in the North East of England, where summer temperatures rarely rise above the temperature of a pint of lager in London :o . Allegedly. But thanks for the kind comment, I think.

    Price Fixing

I was talking to a wagon driver yesterday, he thought a lot of it was to do with transport (fuel) costs, and that he was earning less now than he was 18 years ago.

    Price Fixing

New to Pigeon Watch, so bear with me on this one. It is generally recognised that we pay far more for our goods in the UK, but sometimes I think certain companies take the urine :< I bought a Simmons scope from America over the Web, it cost me £118 plus another £24 delivery. Now I know some of that is down to the favourable exchange rate, but, for the same model bought in the UK, the only price I could find was £219. And it didn't matter which shop I wanted to get it from, they all charged the same. The American dealers prices varied between $158 - $190. I can't help notice that the same applies to Theoben products. There must be some price fixing going on, one dealer I spoke to confirmed that because he refused to promise not to discount, they refused to supply him. Is this not illegal under UK law?
  19. Set of drop in trigger parts for 1022lr by Power Custom (I think), reduces pull weight and creep, still in wrapper (never opened) with full instructions and recoil buffer to reduce action noise, also includes bolt release (unused) £35 ono.
  20. This is my 1022, Hogue stock, Walther scope and SAK moderator.

    Hello

And it's hello from me too. Just got to this site from Rimfire Central, a good site for Rimfire stuff but mostly American (no dis-respect intended). About me, if yu want to know, I have been shooting for the last 25 years (39 now), everything from .177 airguns to 7.62 NATO, now have .22 Meteor, .22 Lightning (in bits), Crosman 1077, Ruger 1022 (in .22lr) and my pride and joy, a Cz452 American in 17HMR (hummer). I have a smallish shoot about 20 miles away and I am a member of a local Gun Club. I also like motorbikes but after a bad few years accident wise, I just use it as transport now, I want to spend more time (and money) on shooting. I work in a car factory somewhere in the North East.
