Hi, I am planning on ordering a couple of Larsen traps for crows and magpies. There are 3 options, top entry, side entry or a combination trap with one of each. Just wondering if people have a preference/have noticed that one type is more effective than the other? Thanks

I know most of you guys on this part of the forum are coastal fowlers but thought here would probably be the best place for advice! We have a pond with about 40/50 wild mallard on it every day, been feeding it for the last month or so and it usually works well for an evening flight. For some reason this year though they are using it as a day roost and none are coming in at dusk. We can't drive the pond as it is so open, so what is best? I was thinking of walking them off in the morning and then sitting tight, as they tend to try and come back in in ones and two's after being scared off when I feed it. Or of course getting there before daylight? But i'm not sure if they are coming in whilst its dark in one big group! I suppose i've probably answered my own question to a point, but thought some of you would have better knowledge of wild duck than I do!! Cheers

Does anyone know of any game dealers within roughly an hour or so from Cambridge? Struggling to find anywhere taking deer or frozen woodpigeons at the moment... Cheers

I have heard that that shooting fallow bucks during the rut is not a good idea as they **** all over themselves and smell horrendous when it comes to butchering them. Is this true is it really that bad? And if so when do they start to smell, I know they rut around October time but am not sure how long the rut carries on for. Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows of any one day deer stalking courses that are within an hour or so's drive from Cambridge? I was recently rejected for my application of a .243 for deer as I had no form of "certification", I was told by the FEO that a 1 day deer stalking course that provides certification at the end will suffice, however I am struggling to find any of these, thanks

I have just sent off my fac application for .243 and .17hmr, and have not yet bought a cabinet to fit them because I dont know if I will be granted the weapons or not and dont want to waste money buying one if it wont be used. Is it ok to do this and wait before being granted the weapons until setting up security arrangements or do security arrangements have to be in place before the interview? Cheers

Im filling out my application now and was thinking I might aswell put down .243 and just see what they say, is this a good idea? I have already put down .22 rimfire, .17hmr and .223 centerfire so thought it might look abit excessive putting down 4 rifles on a first application, especially when I only plan on getting 2. I've put down .22 and .17hmr because I am undecided with the 2 and have put down .223 for fox and muntjac. I would ideally like a .243 as fallow are numerous on land and I dont want to be buying another rifle in a couple of years time, but I feel that applying for 4 rifles at 18 would just look stupid

Ok thanks, and yeah I did wonder whether I would be granted a larger caliber but I thought having a SGC for a while might help me on that...and yes I would possibly be interested in shooting fallow in the not too distant future however I guess it would be even harder to get a .243 than something smaller for just fox and muntjac. Also would I have had to have passed a DSC or something like that for fallow?

Im 18 and have never held a FAC before just a SGC for about 4 years. I was hoping to apply for an FAC to get both a .17hmr for rabbits and .223 for muntjac and fox, however i'm abit confused would I apply for both of these seperately or in the same application? I have also heard that it can be hard to get granted a larger caliber like .223 without having had a smaller caliber such as a .17 or .22 for a few years, is this true?

I have a semi auto 12 bore, Beretta a300 and was wondering if someone knows whether it would be possible to fit a non permanent silencer on it? I want to use it for lamping rabbits, noise is an issue and I don't have a .22 or .17hmr. I havent really heard of people using silenced shotguns other than hushpower .410s but don't see why it wouldn't be possible?

Yeah it is, I attended last year and had a great day. Would love to go this year but it is on a monday!! So can't go because of college

They might be late this year as the spring was so cold, at least there is less rain this year so chicks should do better
