  1. Aw, even if I promise to be good?
  2. I have a new rifle coming which seems just right for the Bisley benches because it's a breech loader This is not to say I have had a change of heart and decided to go modern, it's still a flintlock Presume I am considered incompetant to shoot it at Bisley so this is probably pie in the sky. Doubt anyone would be able to sign me off for such a bizzarre thing
  3. Could not agree more, it's small, totally pointable, puts a smile on your face and contains essence of John Wayne It may have the recoil of a flatulent lettuce, but I only have 9 cartridges left since my son took to shooting clays with it. Time to buy another case
  4. I got the WInchester Mod: 9410 crimped Saw it, had to have it. Hideously complicated action, everything opens up in bizarre fashion when you drop the lever and then, by some miracle, all goes back together again when you close it. Not exactly brilliant wood to metal fit, but they aren't exactly expensive. Curiously you can't top up the magazine, unless I'm missing a trick, once the side gate closes completely behind a cartridge that's your lot. It's what the Americans might call, a hoot to shoot
  5. Need pictures, Fred Barnes started trading in 1847 at 3 Union Row, Tower Hill. In 1851 he became Barnes and Co. with addresses in B'ham and London, finished in 1900. Post 1851 is a late muzzle loader because in 1851 the Great Exhibition introduced pinfire then came the great palaver in The Field magazine closely followed by the London Gun Trials and the general acceptance of centre fire. There was a short lived offshoot Barnes and Co 1863-5 but that's too late for this gun. Unlikely to be an export piece, they made them for years after they were obsolete, but nearly all doubles and it's stil here. Question is, did the customer pay FB enough to make him pull out all the stops, dip into his best walnut and precious metals? The gun was probably made at 69 Minories, B'ham then sold at 109 Fenchurch St, London Snotty
  6. Cased is good, if it has a Barnes & Co trade label in the lid that's very good. Then it comes down to quality, condition and bore size. 16g is better than 20g, 13 or 12 is favorite. You say the ramrod is in the case, does it not fit on the gun? If so it could be a live pigeon gun, but I'd usually expect a double. Got any pics? Snotty
  7. Never heard of it and Lewes is about 12 miles from here. Any good? I could use some practice
  8. I've finally dried out and caught up after taking Monday off. Haven't made a new firing pin to replace the one that fell out yet but loks like a 20 minute job. Unfortunately the gun is about 140 years outside warranty so I can't really complain A fun day, if a trifle damp Snotty
  9. Just gave them a bell... They get there at 9:00 For breakfast aim to arrive 9:15 to 9:30 No shooting before 10:00 Snotty
  10. I only shoot sensible guns, never silly. Fave at the moment is my Stensby with the Jones double lock. It's back action but the side plates have the appearance of front action so it looks like a real gun. Chokes? I don't even have ejectors I do have one modern gun, a Winchester Mod. 9410 crimped. Horrible plastic looking thing but the action is quite delicious I see they open at 10am, is that when breakfast or shooting starts? http://www.wkss.demon.co.uk/ Snotty
  11. I have to go in the "behind it" group As place #12 seems to be vacant shall we let Dunganick come? Maybe forget to tell him he has to carry the guns until after he arrives Snotty

  21. I'll collect the money, but only if you let me come. It could be a sort of penance, I might even let you use my FREEPOST address if you ask nicely Do you require testamonials? Snotty
  22. Called the plod, will take about a week If he wants a key to the gun safe he has to list all the shotguns inside and I have to put a steel cable through any rifle guards. OTOH I may be able to rearrange the cases. Rifles and pistols in one, shotguns in the other. Not actually sure how many I have
  23. Gosh that was quick, wasn't expecting an answer in the wee small hours of the morning Sounds like a non-problem then. He may need some bird recognition training, could be seagulls. He usually grabs the Winchester 9410 when we go out but I suspect an ounce of fives might be more suitable
  24. My son has got himself a job which involves tractor driving, general labour and pest control, SGC an advantage. He said, "Not a problem my father has an arsenal". He is 20, has the experience, is built like a brick ****house, starts tomorrrow. Presume he can get a SGC nil problemo if it's part of the job description. Have my chum Dr Clive standing by ready to sign for him. But, if he gets a gun I think that means another cabinet? He could borrow from my "arsenal" for up to 72 hours without paperwork, but can you hold a SGC without owning a gun? Any tips before I phone my FLA? Much ta Snotty
  25. I'd like to go but I rather blotted my copy book at Bisley
