  1. Apart from possibly making the Subject adjustment and buying the rifle with the heavy liner and as soon as the local constabulary pull their finger out (rifle currently sitting in the RFD waiting for them to do so), that's it as after that it'll simply just get used. But I have a problem. Unfortunately, I'm quite deaf and have to rely on subtitles and am also of an age where I and my brain cells are parting company at an ever increasing rate - took me forever to get to grips with the mRads on the new scope. Consequently, I could do with a bit (more) help/advice as I'm somewhat confused. On You Tube there is, "How to reset your hammer wheel to max on the FX Crown" The nitty gritty cuts in at about 3.30 mins. There is also, "FX Crown GRS stock removal and hammer spring adjustment". Here the critical bits cut in at about 6.30 mins. Bearing in mind my impediments, it seems to me that both articles are attempting to increase the power setting but one does it by increasing the extension of the screw from its carrier and the other, the opposite. I suspect the subtitles on one may be to blame but can't be sure. I would go for increasing the extension but would welcome any input. MTIA
  2. My Utility was bog standard but the Regal was indeed interesting. It turned out to have been made for a one armed man. I would never have known as a couple of the functions had been removed - probably broke and it was cheaper to remove them as opposed to having them repaired. Originally, it had twin triggers (pull either and that barrel fired and the same one again for t'other. easy opening and a re-positioned safety closer to the shooter's hand. If you go for it, Donald, please sing out with the result.
  3. Just measured mine for the above - 34cm
  4. You should be able to get the required measurements from that, but if not, try your local hydraulic engineers. Or better yet fridge or air conditioning guys.
  5. Nice one, spot on. I don't know what has happened of late, but I had no trouble getting info' for my 1947 gun from Churchill - perhaps from whoever currently owned the records could be more accurate. I was supplied with a copy of the original work sheet which had the names of the tradesmen doing the various jobs and all of those names appear on the list of Churchills employees. I was also given a copy of the original purchase order and the buyer's name was a little unusual and his rank was also given.I had no trouble and soon found his son whose father was still alive and delighted to find that the gun was still in use.
  6. Yep, as did S Wright which Churchills bought in 1960. The book mentioned above has all of the employees names and their specialist skills along with some other makers and also Churchills outworkers.
  7. Back in the day, anything could have happened. The House Of Churchill by Don Masters (joined Churchill in 1958) has it that the Serial Numbers for 1960 started at 7433 and for 1961, 7515. For 1962 they start at 7699.
  8. Yes, by 2 years. If it's a boxlock odds on are it'll be a Regal and should the OP start looking into things this was originally called the 'Utility' but was renamed in WW2 because of the American connotation of that word.
  9. If one is concerned about the legality and, OK, I know they're not pigeon, but on the grounds that if you shoot pigeon then in all probability you also shoot rabbit. If ever push comes to shove you're more likely to come to grief shooting the latter than the former and particularly if you consider when the majority are shot.
  10. Yep, some folk are just plain loud. However, if anyone, it is more likely that the chap doing the shouting is the one who could be deaf and is shouting to hear himself. A terrible affliction is deafness and with no obvious outward sign of the condition people can easily get the wrong idea.
  11. Sagalout First of all, a warm welcome to PW and secondly, many thanks indeed for all of the info. I'm pretty sure that I will not be the only one to benefit. I got a couple of Picatinny riser mounts from Optics Warehouse which measure 19mm and I have some Warne Maxima Tikka QR ring/mounts (have you seen how much these are now ) at 5mm so I think I have that sussed. From the off I've been looking at the 25.39 JSBs which Sod's Law means they are the only ones I can't find a sample quantity for. No matter, I'll pick some up with the rifle as it seems that these are the ones that The Sportsman use to check out anything done on FX rifles. There's nothing more that I can do now until I can get the rifle so will see how the possible need for the heavy liner looks then.
  12. Talking of security, my internet security wouldn't allow access to this as apparently it's 'infected'.

    Dentist

Do the same as the armed forces except with a choice. Either pay the full cost of the training as you get it and be free to do whatever on completion (the choice) or pay nowt but agree to work for the NHS for a given period after qualifying.
  14. Many thanks and as you're so kind would you care to answer another one for me. Have another look at VARIATION and you'll realise that I've got more time compliments of D&CC, Not into fiddling any more and just want to shoot it so if I could start on the right foot that would be handy. I have the STD Plus in .25 (hopefully) and am looking at not too heavy pellets or slugs - preferably the latter but one can't be sure of what will be best with regards accuracy. I'm figuring that as it probably wouldn't do any harm, would the Superior Heavy liner be advantageous just in case things turn out that a tad heavier choice is necessary?
  15. Heaven knows. My applicaton for a .25 air rifle variation arrived today after 18 weeks for a.22 air rifle.
  16. Absolutely brilliant. and if you speak to SA again would you also thank them for me. I have more mounts/rings than the Sportsman Gun Centre but Sod's Law says that all of the Picatinny ones have very little 'height'. Yep, it seems they're popular and are like hens' teeth. Mine, bought and paid for, is sitting in the above emporium. When I can get my sticky little fingers on it, I won't need to shoot it for a while as just looking at it is good enough. If you're wondering why I've not got it, my last post in VARIATION in General Shooting Matters - NB the two dates - explains. Won't say any more for now.

    How High?

Excluding the central 'lump' on the scope and just using the bottom edge of the tube, could anyone kindly tell me how high that has to be above the Picatinny rail on a FX Crown Mk 2 with a standard sporting type wood or laminate stock (just in case this is different from the 'tactical' versions) so that the scope clears the magazine? MTIA
  18. Many thanks for taking the time to reply. If we exclude the counties that have been shown on here to be doing a half decent job, it's quite conceivable that those businesses in the areas which do not perform will start making a fuss sooner rather than later.
  19. Won't happen now as the fields in question are covered in solar panels, but the Exmouth Mac's is on the edge of the farm where I shoot. We had a vixen that was running us ragged until one late summer evening Oppo spotted some colour at the bottom of a banked hedgerow. Closer inspection - but not too close - revealed a load of Mac' wrappers/boxes. Sorted within a few evenings.
  20. No, that had all been taken care of during the Hon REDO (original HEO title) selection. It was just that we hadn't actually sat the exam which could have caused an embarrassment if anyone had asked.
  21. We'd gone to The Mill for a meeting of HEO's as they were later called when Gerry Turner realised that we hadn't "qualified" so we had to do the exam there and then which explains "at Marford Mill" instead of somewhere like yourself.
  22. I wonder how long it'll be before the, by then, more mature shooters, are searching the bottom of the wardrobe to make sure they still have theirs:-
  23. I make no comment one way or the other but simply ask, please, what made you mention that now?
