  1. Nice 1 mate, its good to add something different to the bag (and the table) ATB Dave.
  2. He is a cracker mate, just like Ricky's dogs. Good luck with his training. Dave.
  3. Do some basic training with the dog just to tidy it up a bit, let it hunt up some blind retrieves, then get it hunting up some rabbits and in hot weather is the time to do some water retrieves. Enough of this will get it ready for the season and freshened up on its training. ATB Dave

I could tell by the condition of your existing terrier, the way he was trained and the type of home life you have that you know your stuff and were the right people to take buster home. I wish you all the happiness with him and hope he behaves himself Thanks for everything and keep in touch mate. ATB Dave.

  10. Not easy to measure him mate ha, but i think he is 13" at the shoulder, my other terrier is defenetly 14" and he is slightly smaller than him. ATB Dave.
  11. Unfortunately i am parting company with my 10 Month old Plummer X Patterdale dog pup, due to him and my other Terrier not getting along. He is a cracking little fella and will make an excellent worker or pet. He gets on fine with my other Dog and bitch, but my terrier dose not like him and he is a hard little fella and wont back down. I am only after £100 to a permanent home, i am in County Durham. Dave.
  12. Dose anyone use there Gundogs to hunt squirrels, either hunting up and treeing or just retrieving. Dave.
  13. And this was Fern 2 weeks ago, on her first mooch about for Pheasants. Was out for an hour after work, on one of our Rough shooting farms. Me and my mate Jamie had Fudge the Cocker X and i took Fern for a training session. Fern Jamie and Fudge walking the storm belt. Fern the pup starting to hit cover well Fudge getting right into the thick Fern with her first Pheasant Retrieve, i was over the moon, it was text book Fern was really getting into the hunting and looking really keen, which i wanted but i thought it was time to call it a day, before she got to excited. End of day was a bit dark, sorry All in all it was a good hour with allot happening, i think Fern learnt allot without loosing her head, but its back to training for another week or so before our next outing. Dave.
  14. This is Fern at 7 months. We were out for a bit of training and hoped for some better luck than i had had all week, first of all Fern had been kicked by a horse earlier in the week and escaped luckily unharmed, and then went on a Fox drive on Saturday, we should have taken 3 but all made good there escape :icon_redface: So any way took the pup out again up the dale, but this time took the Shotgun, a week is a long time in the life of a pup and she started slowly, we then hit a spot where there was alot of scent and she picked right up hunting well, she flushed 2 rabbits without knowing it and then after about 1 hours hunting she found a nice sitter in the reedbeds, she circled it twice then pointed and rushed in, i blew the whistle but to my surprise she was already sitting, luckily i kept my end of the deal and made the shot, she then made a text book retrieve, i then relised i had held my breath the whole time waiting for a mistake, but it didnt come. It had all gone so well and not wanting to spoil the session, so i decided to leave it on a high and head home. A nice hours training and the pup showing great promise. Dave.
  15. Well i havent put up any pics of Fern for a while so this is what we have been up to. This is her at 6 months and coming on well with her training, i thought it was time to get her out up the Dale and let her hunt up a few rabbits, she is good on the blind retrieves so getting her to hunt wasn't a problem. I left the Shotgun at home but took the starter pistol, she has been around gunfire at the Clay ground, but a little more wont hurt. Getting into the cover Flushing a Rabbit She learnt alot in the reedbeds and luckily she found out what she was hunting, i wont be taking her up the dale to often yet as she is still young with plenty of time, but i think its good to get some scent into them and break the retrieveing rutine every now and then. Dave
  16. The smallest rabbit came in handy for a bit of training with my pup Fern when i got back. Her first time retrieving Fur, so i was over the moon. It seems one step closer to getting her out hunting. Dave.
  17. The Cocker X i sold my mate has been getting increasingly wilder in her hunting recently, so we decided to have a training day up the Dale and shoot a bit of Vermin as we went. Retrieving a rabbit over the bridge She is excellent on all aspects of Hunting and Retrieving Rabbit, but a little shy with the birds, this isnt much of a problem but with some encouragement she was getting a little better. Her basic training seemed to come back when there wasn't much scent and her control when hunting was a massive improvement from the last time we shot over her. Dave.
  18. Well done mate, a good start to the season. Dave.
  19. All dogs are individuals & rarely text book, so just take it steady and ease your way through it at the dogs pace, you seem to be going along the right track, but if he seems to stumble in his training just go back to basics, which will reassure him and build up his confidence. Dave.
  20. Thanks for the replys everyone. I shoot alot of the land that is hunted by the hounds and although shooting is my passion, hunting on foot with the hounds is so magical it is as if the whole dale is different when filled with 20 couple hounds singing along a line. Dave.
  21. We were out last night exercising hounds, here are a few pics. Raring to go Look at me Where did everyone go In full cry Then in came the Weather Bang, time for the pub The scent was poor in the very wet conditions but the beer was cold in the pub with a roaring fire to dry us off, what more do you want Hope you like them Dave.
  22. We got hammered by mixi last year, but fingers crossed they are all clean at the minute, it was very wet in the reed beds so they do all look a bit manky. Cheers Dave.
