  1. my gun came with one of these stocks, it is superb, the grip feels like it was made for me, it might be worth going, I did go to midland gun company but cancelled my order the next day
  2. My MX8 is 22 yrs old and tight as a drum, for £3k you can get one listed at £3500, for me they are very special, I handled an old keman probably a £2k gun, it was so nice I'd have bought it if the owner wasn't in love with it,owned from new, shop around there's some special stuff available if patient
  3. Gun shops are "steel proof" wary, if you gun is an ultra XS and you want an "upgrade" then most Browning are so similar to the ultra XS it will feel like a waste of money, the XS is a superb clay buster, if it were me... I'd look at things like Kemen, or a Perazzi MX, maybe a good late service Blaser F3, having shot DT10 and DT11 I prefer the DT11, but you need around £4500 for one of them. Salavini make some nice older guns the Duke springs to mind, apparently very well balanced. You will always lose money buying anything , rarely break even on the resale. What is your reasons for an upgrade? If it's to find a magic extra 10% on your scores then lessons are a better investment
  4. Our local shoot ask for flag in and carried military style, holding bottom off stock and barrels pointing up. I am considering going back to using a slip after watching some guns resting against a tree ( the rack was full) and slide and take 2 other guns with it clattering to the floor, you coulda heard a pin drop...
  5. Like many have said, it would be cheaper to trade the gun for a multichoke gun in the long run. There's plenty of that model gun used in a spec you're looking for.
  6. If it's used you might be able to try it, and pattern it at 30yrds to see if it's high, if it is and you think you can adapt to the pattern then buy it, trap guns are harder to sell on as they're seen as a single discipline gun and many will buy a more established trap model, e.g miroku, Perazzi, Beretta.
  7. I have just bought a semi-automatic, really just to have a change occasionally, I see a lot of them locally and many are being used by older men, mainly because they are light and light on recoil, it enables them to continue their love of the sport, I probably will not use it at the little private club I shoot at because of the flying spent shells, at a paid ground I always pick up spent shells if I've missed the bin but I've seen selfish people with O/U eject over their shoulder every pair as if they are royalty, and semi owners walk off without picking up, but they are the sort of people who chuck their maccy D rubbish out the car window.
  8. Appear to have sorted this
  9. Looking at one of these, 30" only with all accessories etc, must be in very good condition.

  12. If you have a shotgun, and you don't shoot tighter than 1/2 choke it's perfectly fine
  13. I think I have some I will have a look
  14. If grounds go under they will only have themselves to blame, I'd rather have 100 shooters at 31p p/clay than 60@.40p. Plus burger and coffee sales, margins on cartridges sales.
  15. In those temps the cloth will dry faster than the barrels will cool (bit of an exaggeration) the other thing is that any moisture in the rib could glint in the sunlight and cause more sight picture issues, I was recently shooting at a lesson, we shot 175 carts in 90 minutes on a skeet range, there was some heat haze but the walk from one stand to the next and a short discussion and it seemed to have cooled enough. Maybe you're over thinking it?
  16. Gun traders aren't buying guns and reluctant to px, they beat the price down claiming gun is not steel shot proofed, but sell on at a price that doesn't reflect this, and when questioned about these guns it's brushed aside. I do know gun sales are very sluggish, I have my eye on a gun but will only purchase if it's a bargain
  17. The clay ground owner I spoke to mentioned that he buys clay ten ton at a time.i would imagine the unit cost is much lower at that level, he uses CCI??? Anyway he said their prices have gone up but the supplier is providing a poorer quality product with inconsistent weight so the clay's are breaking or not flying consistently, numerous clay's breaking out of the trap, I've noticed this and assumed they are using used clay's. Don't get me wrong I understand economics and the need to turn a profit, running anything is not just done on the day it's a lot of work, I'm just thinking that at this rate of increasing costs they will put themselves out of business if they are trying to maintain their previous profit margins because the shooters are abandoning the sport
  18. My supplier said they have kept prices down to average 5% but when you look closely the stuff no one needs has stayed the same but the high use materials have gone up 30%, 5% overall but in real terms the most purchased materials have sky rocketed. My commercial electric has tripled. I am taking the hit but getting more enquiries for quotes that are converting into sales as my competition are loading their prices.
  19. I'm definitely happy for people to make money, that's essentially why they put a shoot on, but if the industry as a whole continues to even stay at this level, attendance will significantly decline and they effectively put themselves out of business. The pressure of this present financial situation are the essentials, food, fuel, heating which in previous slumps have remained fairly stable so it was more manageable,
  20. I love the sport, and have only been shooting about 13 years, and my interest comes and goes And to shoot well I need to shoot frequently, I've even been having lessons and have benefited from them, but today is my last lesson as that gets very expensive. And with this increase I'm finding it hard to justify 2/3 times a month, I can unfortunately see myself mothballing my gun again. I've run a small but successful business for 30yrs so have weathered a few downturns for sure. My industry it not essential and customers curb their spending, there are little "tells" as people start to feel the pinch, I am seeing those tells now, a downturn is probably already here. I've always kept my fee's the same during these times, accepted less profit, and built new avenues of income as people shop around for a better price, which maintains my business, when things start to improve I can ease my prices up and with the additional new customers I usually get to benefit, but it's a long game. Shooting is a hobby, many people will vote with their feet.
  21. One of my local shooting grounds, willow farm in Kent put it's prices up to £40x100 so we concentrated our hobby on Abby wood at detling, they have just increased their prices to £40, citing cost of clay's and matching the other grounds. With cartridges at £260x 1000 and fuel a round of 100i s now £65 +fuel, My local gun shop commented that they have seen a decline in shotgun sales and more significantly cartridge sales and I do wonder if with the current economic situation this expensive sport will go into decline, last few visits I have noticed that the turn out of shooters was noticeably smaller. Usually at Abby wood I'd have to wait for maybe 5/6 shooters before me, the last 2 visits I've usually just walked intia stand it had to wait while a single shooter is finishing. I went to JJ on Wednesday and it was busy £32x100 I'm already finding it difficult to get shooting buddies to come as 3 have already quit due to rising costs For me I will only be able to justify going once a month, to other clubs. I stopped going to west Kent as they're around 42p per clay. I was wondering if you are beginning to attend less regularly?
  22. My barrels are 30 3/4" Mama bear barrels, not too long, not too short. Yours Goldilocks
