  1. Cheers, thinking that way. Its not the led thats fallen off, just the little dome lens, very soft clear silicone holding it on, but messing with the light/image, led emmiter is fast and tight, presume just very senstive to toothpic clearing the silicone away!
  2. For information or advice, I have a 501b, red LED with aspherical lens off DX. Very cheap. one of their pressure switches as well, or rather 2 now as first one did not work. That was replaced foc but took weeks to appear, meanwhile I found the first one had a poor connection in the pad which I repaired, but it is just a bent metal strip you press against a partially insulated stiffer strip, like home-made, and even mended is not very good. The second one(same part number) has clicky buttons in it and seemed much better, very useable. However, the lamp was acting up last time out, dropping the power/fading, no 'wiggle test' result assumed a new fault. Back in the workshop (kitchen) I had a closer look, took apart and back together, no better, but test with normal tail switch ok, so another bad pressure switch. Unfortunately, while doing this testing, the little dome lens on the led just fell off, tried it back by pressing it in to the adhesive, but got a blurry image due the adhesive surfaces, so tried to clean it up not much better, so tried without the lens and got a smaller image, thinking this would improve range if left off I carefully cleared away the remainig adhesive from around the diode and tried it again, nothing, completely dead, getting voltage, but I think I killed the diode. Thinking I will try a drop in module, but which one and is it better without the little dome lens, anyone else done that intentionally? Certainly far superior to a white light for night time bunnies, using Ruger 10/22, subsonics and saks mod.
  3. Coulda told me you were 'outing' us, bitch!..................... Don't worry fellas, only having a laff, and no problem telling the guns apart cos mine shoots straight!
  4. I did Rob, I sent him a text for his records, (he was on his way home and I just caught him Friday eve) with the guns I had shot and discussions we had. I enjoyed the experience with all your rifles, but the .243 was a bit special! Cheers.
  5. OK, to keep you up to date, Feo did contact 'landrover' on Monday about my shooting experience, and my FAC arrived in todays post. Now I just have to decide what rifle/s to buy! (pretty quick I reckon, no complaints there!) On the wording of the conditions, it states ' ranges or land deemed suitable by the chief officer where the land is situated and where the holder has authority to shoot', now, does that constitute an 'open licence'? I have authority on many farms which are already shot by other rifle users, are they already deemed suitable? not clear to me, I can phone the FEO but what is the norm?
  6. Got some old ones here myself, just wondering if they are safe or I should dispose of them. All 12g, cardboard; 2 x Eley "rockets" (6 and 7), 5 x Eley alphamax BB, a Hull cartridge co no5, a Purdey's special, 2x Eley 70mm and another 70mm no id, and an 1 3/4 eley no6 if anyone is interested?
  7. OK, thanks to all again for the offers and input. Big thanks to landrover and his son for going out of their way to come to my land, with bench and targets, set up a range and let me loose with their rifles, discuss does and don'ts, where and where not, ranges and wind. It was a cold, wet and windy day, not the best for standing around, but they stayed for a couple of hours or more. gave me a good insight for me stepping up to rimfire and maybe on to centre fire! I have informed my FEO, and he says he will be acting on it on Monday. I will update with any news, hopefully with a licence in a few weeks lol. Cheers!
  8. Thanks to all of you who have responded to this post, very reassuring to be a member of PW, great community. I have pm'd 'landrover ' as he is the closest, all offers are very much appreciated, and 'shooting for a day' in Co Durham would not be refused by anyone! Thanks again, I will post any progress. Willc
  9. Just had the FEO round to check me out for Rimfire FAC, .22 and 17HMR. All OK but he asked if I had experience with the calibers. I had to reply that although I had 30 years with a shotgun and more with an air-rifle, i had not shot a rimfire, tho I am familiar with safety aspects.the ranges they shoot to, ballistics, etc. He told me he would like me to get some experience with someone with a rimfire, just to get a feel of the difference I guess, discuss safe shooting and tips, get a few shots down range etc. He pretty much made it a condition, and to give him a call after, where he would process the application. I asked some questions, it could be an informal session, maybe an hour he suggested. I have no issue with this, a bit suprised maybe, but quite happy to pick up tips and pointers, and talk about shooting! Problem is I don't really know anyone that could help me out, so if any one is up for it, and is in a reasonable distance by car of Stockton on Tees, then I am looking for a volunteer! Actually another member I go shooting with has also applied for his FAC, is in the same area so same FEO, will probably be told the same , so possibly accomodate 2? We would be happy to pay for any ammunition of course, and a 'beer or two' or whatever! Any way, hopefully no harm in asking I hope! 'rimfire-rookie'
  10. Had mine last week, he seemed unsure why he was there, and was only going to check my date of birth. i told him I had applied for FAC for rimfire rifle. We continued with general chat about what i shoot, background and where I shoot. Checked cabinet and security. He asked me if I had experience with rifles, I explained 30 + years with shotgun and air-rifle, and I treat any gun with the same respect and was well aware of the extra ranges involved and the need for a safe backdrop. he still suggested or rather made it a condition that I spend some time with an experienced shooter and get a bit of rifle time in. bit of a catch 22 really. Also, I applied for the max 3 different guns, with the intention of choosing between 2, and trading another gun in, but he said I could not because I only had room for 4 in my cabinet. (2 shotguns at moment)
  11. Out on Sunday afternoon as well, dry when we set up, trouble is we get chatting and miss the pigeons coming in,or pour the coffee, garuantees a fly-by!.got 5 pigeons on the decoys tho,and another one and two rabbits on walk-about as the rain settled in so not too bad, just good to be out!
  12. I was there and witnessed it all,I am still laughing and able to rib kennym for weeks on this one!,I am glad he didn't shoot my Jeep tho, parked only 30 metres away.He has had trouble with target id in the past in the heat of the moment, with a Jackdaw, and a blackbird which flew throught the pattern with a group of woodies, nice shot, landed at my feet and he wouldnt beleive that either!. Couldn't beleive how suicidle the ferral pigeons were, we kept trying to line two flying birds up for one shot,we managed it but went for the same birds at the same time! (but I shot them kenny!,honest).Great fun.
  13. I get my enthusiastic shooting partner to carry it, that or stick it in the jeep. We are lucky tho, as kennym says, new permission leaves a 6 foot plus strip round all the fields for conservation, so access is good.
  14. If shooting with someone, take a couple of two-way radios. you can give a heads up about birds/bunnies etc, and keep track of each other when you split up, as much for safety if anything. Other than that, don't shoot unless absolutely sure of your target and backdrop.(I know, obvious, but safety first)
