  1. My pleasure. I reckon they're having a reight ol' mardle. I watched the programme late last night and enjoyed it. I hope the estate can find a way of satisfying those pinks. The answer may well lie with British Sugar if they pay better prices, so farmers could set the machines to leave the top inch on the tops. It also looks like we are buying in sugar cane in order to do deals on our exports post Brexit.
  2. I've got it on record. Holkham is an amazing estate and tradition has it the 'keepers still wear bowler hats. I've shot it many times for pigeon and had some fantastic bags. A good while ago mind.
  3. Built like a tank and years of reliable use. Such values were what shooting men wanted when it was built, no longer the case these days. New 2022 guns are pretty perhaps and catch the eye but I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. OP you have bought a bargain !
  4. We spent many an hour sharing a hide or a field and driving around Norfolk searching for pigeons. Yes, he had a very difficult professional job but he carried it out with skill and diligence. Harnser was a lovely bloke who loved the countryside and his family and county. I will miss him terribly. R.I.P. My friend.
  5. This is a good read. In this ever changing world it's possible to get absolutely fantastic streaming services over the internet the caveat being a really fast and reliable internet connection with the necessary speed. This comes at a COST if any of you live in rural areas you will understand stuffing fat data through a small pipe will not ever deliver on screen quality or for that matter HQ sound, by this I mean Dolby Atmos and other variants. If you are fortunate enough to be connected via Virgin Superfast media fiber the sky is the limit but it will cost you. So Ditch wants a new tele and surround sound? I'd say buy a 4K tele ( Samsung Neo) and and a 4K Blu-ray player. Don't get sucked in by this stuff about 8K either as there is no material out there (much) and if you thought you'd like to view it and get any advantage you would need a panel (TV) about 108inch wide. Such items are not suitable for most lounges!
  6. When I bought a spare mag for my Webley FX2000 I had to be careful to order the right one as they did vary the diameter of the size of the pin holding the mag.
  7. 18 Hawfinches at Lynford arboretum yesterday.
  8. Hands up , I often open up cartridges and look inside. I had a very bad batch of Eley Pigeon 32g 6.5 shot ( now discontinued ) back in the day and contacted Eley several times even ended up writing to them. Eley couldn't be bothered to reply, but my RFD refunded me. They were poorly put together with different sized shot mixed in , some showed signs of rust, bad crimps and hard primers. Needless to say I don't use Eley anymore. I've looked at several different brands over the years and always have a good impression of Lyalvale Express ammunition. That's good news. I'm sure Gamebore will correct this situation and protect their reputation. Please keep us posted.
  9. A very nice job, well done. Shows the benefit of a really solid shooting platform.
  10. Where would you run aground on the Yare? Must be Breydon Water? He must have been doing something wrong being so twitchy. Let's hope it comes out in the court case.

    Norfolk

I enjoyed it a lot. Nice to hear a proper Norfolk accent from former fisherman Hooker. The goose count was a good watch. The numbers they get at Holkham are enormous as you can see.
  13. No need to apologise ditchy , everso easy to get the ID wrong . Brill are almost unheard of in Norfolk. Can be a lot of fun. Another species that isn't as prevalent as it used to be is the flounder. They don't eat that well but a 2lber puts up a decent scrap on light tackle. We used to wait for neap tides and fish watch leads over a sandy bottom. We fished for school bass to 3lb and the best bait was under belly of fresh mackerel , occasionally we would get a turbot or two. Sometime none but when we caught one there was usually another few in the same session.
  14. Brilliant yes Ditch but they are turbot. Prettiest fish ever. These fellas went back to the sea.
  15. There a a few beaches in Norfolk that produce the odd turbot. I've caught a few over the years . Nothing big, the biggest was about the size of a dinner plate that's all. I didn't get take a picture of the "dinner plater" unfortunately but here are two other ones.
  16. The theory is global warming is affecting the fishing off the Norfolk coast. We used to have really good cod fishing but it's very poor these days, hoards and hoards of whiting instead. Catches of coalfish, pollack and wrasse increasing. We are even getting the odd blonde ray and thornback ray catches have increased dramatically over recent years. Sole fishing can be very good if you fish the right places, they are very localised.
  17. That's interesting, everyday is a school day. Thanks for you post most informative.
  18. Fantastic reel ! I've been using one for about three years now for stick float fishing for roach on The Norfolk Broads. I can't fault it.
  19. Thanks for your posts one and all, an interesting read full of opinions. These days I have guns which are bored 28 , 20, 16, several 12's. 12 bore versatile in that I can shoot 2 ins to 3 and a half inch shells. I sold my 4:10 webley B/A long ago. I own a Beretta 30in 28g 687 o/u and some of these cartridges below. I like it and have shot some cracking game birds with it and made several good bags of pigeon with it. Am I in the wrong for using such OTT cartridges ?
  20. We need a Farage show ! Here it is in all it's glory. Pathetic points scoring muppets. https://youtu.be/ykWdLJX8SH0
  21. I guess the OP Suffolkfred can decide what to do or keep his money in the closet. I find it weird that you try and help PW advocates i.e. new members and they show no decency in even offering a reply. Typically this I why I rarely post these days.
  22. Anglia Sporting might be able to help you. https://angliasporting.co.uk/
  23. Ahoy Ditch, yes I remember you saying you thought they were decent. I never tried them in the SxS for the same reason.
  24. Rose coloured starling at Titchwell yesterday and today. A friend saw his first Brent goose of the season this week while out sea fishing in his kayak off Trimingham.
