  1. Remmy If I was to leave the automatic safety in tact its nuisance because if I miss a clay with first shot and then try and get it on the 2nd, too much time is lost de activating the safety shot. A month!!!
  2. Walnut oil and been applying it with my fingers and then lots of rubbing it with fingers and palm to warm the oil up to help it seep into the wood.
  3. I have recently purchased a 2nd hand shotgun at an affordable price. The stock was a bit scratched up and there was a mark that had been left on the wood following the removal of an extending piece. After some wet sanding and a few hours of rubbing in some oil has brought the grain of the wood out lovely but its still very dull to look at. How do I get a bit of a sheen on it? Also I have discovered the gun is a game gun and it has an automatic safety lock after discharging a cartridge, how easy is it to dismantle this lock? As I do not plan on shooting game just clays I keep forgetting to release the safety catch and dont wish to be further handicapped when shooting. Is it the extra pin I see when the gun broke? Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Well following my earlier post regarding a speedy home visit, today I received my Shotgun Certificate, less then a month from posting off my application. Well done Lancashire Constabulary.

    Scuba Diving

Having been diving for the last 5 years and BSAC trained and qualified I am off on a Red Sea liveaboard in September for the first time. Of the 350 dives completed, only approximately 30 odd done in blue waters all the rest around the UK coast and I think its fantastic and full of marine life so dont find much need to go abroad. BSAC club training is slower then PADI so if you are in a rush and is a quick learner then train via PADI but if your slightly anxious and need time to assimilate the information then go BSAC. BSAC Ocean diver 20 metres including dry suit training and nitrox Sports Diver 35 metres including rescue skills and deployment of DSMB Dive Leader 50 metres including practical rescue managment All diving include 3 minutes safety stop at 6 metres PADI Open water 15 metres AOW 30 metres Rescue Skills Dry Suit training Deep Dive Deployment of DSMB P = Put A = ANother D = Dollar I = In
  6. SGC application form sent to Lancashire Police Force on 22nd May, letter confirming receipt of aplication form received on 29th May, home visit 4th June. I just hope the next part of the process goes as quickly.
  7. I had my home visit from the Fire arms officer and I found him very and friendly helpful. I must admit I wasnt to sure what to expect, a grilling maybe? This officer did ask me his questions but it wa smore about trying to find out what knowledge I had regarding shotguns and safety. I couldnt answer his question "how far does a cartridge travel approximately" and he didnt make me feel silly for not knowing the answer and his giving of information was done in a non patronising manner. He made me aware that he doesnt issue the certificate he makes recommendations and he said he was happy to recommend me. How long does it normally take from this stage for my certificate?
  8. I am very new to shooting and a friend has kindly allowed me to try before I buy his ex wife's Sabatti over and under shotgun. I would appreciate peoples views of this gun both positive and negative and weather £350 is a reasonable price to pay. Also recommendations/suggestions of other guns comparative to the above in costs. Thanks in advance. No NEED! I have found the search function and found some old threads on similar question. All I need to do now is get my gun identified. I will take a pic in a few days and see if someone recognises it.
  9. You might have luck locating some cylinders on this forum as cylinders come up regularly for sale. http://www.yorkshire-divers.com/forums/per...nders-sale.html
  10. I managed to hit approximate 50% of the clays which is loads better then my first attempt when I hit 3 from 25 My buddy and I had discussed taking some lessons and the place we shoot at offers it at a reasonable costs so that is next on the cards.
  11. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Now the fun begins!
  12. Hi Guys Thanks for all your replies. I went out shooting yesterday using 21gm cartridges and the kick back was less but I still have bruises on my shoulder and at the very top of my arm. The gun feels more comfortable then when I was using my buddies and I expect I just need to get used to it and get some strength in my upper arms as I found I struggled to unload it and catch the empty shells! Perseverance is needed I suppose.
  13. I am going to be using a friends gun at the weekend to shoot clays. Its a Sabatti 20 bore over and under, the last time I used a 12 bore I found the kickback to hard. What is the best type of cartridge to use as I understand they come in different power? Also do I need to show my license at the shooting place before they will sell me cartridges? As you can guess I am very new to this sport. So friendly advise preferred.
