  1. My wife and I bought a two acre plot of a 75 acre woodland that was being broken up into lots two months ago, it’s in south west Wales and we paid £9500 for it. It’s bordered in one side by a road and on the other three sides by woodland tracks made up of hardcore. There’s a lot of mature grand fir on the plot along with a mix of hazel, beech and oak around the periphery, one section has a dense patch of ash saplings and there are a few very young oaks that were planted from acorns a couple of years ago. It has good access from the adjacent road (gated and padlocked) with a bit of hard standing for us to plonk a caravan on, no public footpaths through the plot or public access through the network of tracks but the other woodland lot owners have rights over the tracks. No restriction on the shooting rights (not that two acres is much anyway), no restriction on submitting for planning permission. A friend of ours has 13 acres in the same woodland and an acquaintance has another 5 so it was a bit of a no brainier for us. Meant the missus didn’t get a newer car and we didn’t put money towards the mortgage overpayment but this opportunity seemed like more fun!
  2. Hands up all those on here who give a flying frig about fashion... Shoot what you shoot well with, let the others talk, their smirking will soon stop when they realise that their hard earned money thrown at their fancy guns doesn't necessarily make them shoot well.
  3. X reg (2000), 2.0HDi Peugeot 206, three door, green. I've owned it for the last 6 years, and a friend of mine owned it for the 5 years prior to that. It has a lot of miles on it (179,000) but has been mechanically looked after, it's been serviced around every 6,000 miles from new so 28 services in total. Service history can only really be described as 'extensive' going all the way back to the original receipt for the car. Cam belt last replaced in 2014 at 150,000 miles. This will do 50-60 mpg depending on how you drive it. It's MOT'ed till December and is currently declared SORN. The bad bits - it's a 17 year old vehicle, it has its problems, it's not a refined modern car, the air conditioning needs re-charging, the fuel tank reads about 1/4 of a tank over what's actually in there, the bodywork has picked up various scratches, scrapes etc over the years, the bonnet and passenger doors have been replaced with re-sprayed replacements from a scrap yard so don't expect concours paintwork. Recently some of the bushes on the rear subframe have started to clunk going over bumps so will need replacing. I've recently purchased an estate so unfortunately this needs to go. For the full asking price I'll throw in the set of four alloy wheels fitted with Michelin tyres (two knackered, two ok) and the tow bar assembly with electrics that I never got round to fitting. Vehicle located in Radstock, Somerset. Pictures available on request. £350
  4. Check out Ebbor Gorge just outside of Wookey, not as big as cheddar gorge but rather less spoiled, make sure you check out the viewing point half way round the gorge walk. If you do go over to Shipham then it's worth having a walk over Rowberrow onto Black Down, some nice views up there and the remains of some old round houses. The Swan pub in Rowberrow is pleasant enough if you're round there.
  5. Morning guys, yes, you're right a model number would help. Unfortunately I have no idea exactly what model it is, it's a 1970s/80s sporting rifle built on a match 54 action. The magazine it has currently is the same as this one: https://riflemags.co.uk/anschutz-5-round-22lr-magazine-1420-u5/ The only picture of the rifle I have to hand is this.
  6. Evening all, does anyone have a spare Anschutz .22lr magazine kicking about the place that they'd be willing to part with for a few beer tokens? 5 shot or 10 shot I'm not fussy. Cheers Ashley
  7. I'm still getting used to mine, only had it 6 months, the hand wheel going the wrong way is rather frustrating, when moving the tool off of the work piece I need to think twice before I turn it to make sure I don't run it into the headstock! Why they didn't fit an idler gear I don't know. The spindle bore (3/8" from memory) is frustratingly small but I have access to a Hardinge collet lathe and a Harrison M300 chuck lathe at work so it it just gets used for little domestic jobs. I think I was quite lucky with it, it was bought brand new by a chap after his apprenticeship, he then started a metal working shop with various bigger tools so the Myford only got used for the odd job here and there, it was then passed onto his son who I bought it from, the son had a Colchester and some other big lathe in the garage so again the Myford only saw light use. The bed ways are spotless, it's all mounted on a homemade wooden bench along with the motor and pulley wheels and has two drawers stuffed full of tooling, change wheels, shims, faceplate, dogs, centres etc. The chap wanted £370 so I bit his arm off.
  8. How about a fire piston? http://makezine.com/2015/11/02/watch-a-master-create-a-simple-survival-tool-on-a-lathe/ Or a gyroscope? http://makezine.com/2015/08/28/watch-benchtop-gyroscope-build/ I've got a 1946 Myford M Type lathe, basically the same as the Drummond M Type after they took the design on, still with 1" spindle before they increased it to 1-1/8".
  9. 30 years, not really doing much travelling are they. I believe the saying is something along the lines of 'Don't deficate where you eat'.
  10. So the piles of rubbish that's dumped every time they move on just happen to magically appear and was nothing to do with the do as you likeys? Perhaps a local resident fly tipped it all just so that they'd get the blame? Come on.
  11. Fine till the hidden corroded bit gives out while under pressure and you lose your brakes...
