  1. I was in one of the UKs biggest gunshops and I listened to an interesting argument, that we all should fight a lead shot ban, for as long as possible, the reasoning presented behind that was that the ordinary working man who shoots now and again might not be able to afford a steel proofed gun and that the day a lead shot ban arrives it’s only the more affluent members of the community that can afford to take part. Then as a general rule of thumb it’s easier for the general public to put pressure on us as it’s a class vote, it become like fox hunting, the general public are just voting against posh ***** in their perception! Seems like a reasonable argument! Then today I get an email offering BASC discount on a £50000 Maserati Where is the working man in all this?
  2. So reading about non toxic problems abroad one that keeps cropping up is the use of steel shot in forestry, from what I’m reading the obvious problem is ricochet from Steel the second but more important problem is steel getting stuck in trees, apparently if the wood is to be used for vernier then the cutter that trims the thin sheet is susceptible to damage from steel shot. I know of a couple of clay grounds that mandate no steel shot for this reason, is it likely to affect many diy and rough shoots?

  5. In terms of a lead ban and small bores what would be effective? 20b is steel still an option? I haven’t used a 20b and steel 28b would this lead to 3” chambered guns to try to get the payload out? 410b is this really bismuth and tungsten effective for hunting?
  6. We all know they can’t, but look at my original post, why were they with the rural affairs minister consulting on the transition to non lead ammunition! The question would be is this coming from the government or our shooting organisations!
  7. If you want to see the future you just need to look abroad, it happened years ago there. North America had the race for the best steel for years, now they are racing for heavier non toxics, the irony is that Kent are pushing bismuth that is manufactured by gamebore in the UK and sold at a fraction of the price we can buy it, maybe gamebore bismuth manufacturing empire will be ready for the ban! In Denmark they have had the nontoxic ban for 20 years and gamebore lead the market with hypersteel product, but also sell bismuth at the same price as the uk, profiteering, not selling it at the prices the do in America The serious catch is non of these country’s abide by the cip regulations giving them better options for steel shot cartridges If this ban goes ahead and we are still operating within cip regulations we will be ******** Thankfully I didn’t buy a 28b
  8. So was my prediction right, is the rumours on Facebook ref voluntary ban on steel shot correct as of 2024? did that just devalue all small bore guns by 50%

  15. Is that the Yildiz steel actioned clay guns or alloy actioned game guns?
  16. I wad looking at their website and noticed that the game guns are not steel actioned like the clay guns, they are lightweight alloy, so does that make them equivalent to the beretta ultralight models in terms of weight and design? The 12g is under 7lb.
  17. All, We have the plan, I have spoken to Andrew at the clay ground. We will shoot 80 bird sporting, we then stop for lunch which the clay ground will provide, then we shoot a team flush which is 20 birds per person, so you pay for 100 clays each but we get to have the grand finale which will be a little different to our usual days! This is shaping up to be awesome! Admin 1030 am start at the clay ground 30p per clay £10 for bbq lunch no steel shot as it’s in forestry fibre wad only number need to be confirmed in advance

  19. I had thought for a while with all the media being directed at us about non toxic cartridges that we are being conditioned before a lead ban was really on the agenda! In Denmark the idea of non-toxic only shot came from within the shooting organisations due to the thought that they were more likely to protect their sport by recommending the ban! Low and behold I seen a post on Facebook that BASC raised the issue of the transition to non-toxic ammo with the rural affairs minister! So apart from being annoyed that we are being undermined from within our community I thought I’d carry out some research about non-toxic and small bores as I was about to buy a 28b and the last thing I want is a gun on my hands I can’t get rid of. There doesn’t seem to be many options for small bore non-toxic hunting cartridges that are reasonably affordable, and I wondered if this will lead to the demise of small bore guns sub 20 bore. They seem to be banned in Denmark but I can’t find out why I suspect because they can’t push steel past the mandatory minimum speed of 400ms I’m just interested in what everyone’s thoughts are?
