  3. Thanks for replied folks , he's been with me to 3 duck flights (not busy flights with lots of shots), he's retrieved 3 or4 geese and pigeons n rooks from about 16 months . He'll be mainly a wildfiwling dog but I'm also in a small pheasant syndicate so basically he'll be doing a but of everything . I'm very very happy with him apart from the problem I mentioned but il try as Kent suggested and don't give him any retrieves I can easily pick myself Thanks again Allan
  4. I don't think I worded post properly , as I don't send him for all the easy retrieves but even if or when I do he sometimes is slow on return with messing about I don't think I worded post properly , as I don't send him for all the easy retrieves but even if or when I do he sometimes is slow on return with messing about

  7. Hi folks , I've a young lab of 19 month who is all I could ask for apart from an annoying problem of messing about with shirt seen retrieves , if it's a fairly short retrieve and especially if it's out in open and he doesn't have to hunt for it he mouths the bird a bit (doesn't mark it ) and will usually look at me and will come a bit with some encouragement but will again stop and mess about ? He's done this a few times now and can't work out what I've done to cause this and more importantly how I can cure it ? On longer harder if you like retrieves he'll bring it back and put it in my hand . From a pup I didn't let him pick every dummy so I can keep him steady which as worked ,as I say everything else he is spot on and has had some brilliant retrieves out of thick cover etc Any help is appreciated to what I can try .
  8. They'll be going back to the estuary for a drink , especially if there feeding on stubble
  9. I've got a 1100 magnum , it's great old gun and when looked after and kept clean they don't seem to cause any trouble and they fit me perfect .mine is a early one from between 1963-1968 lol
  10. Did you try tw chambers aswell mate , they've usually *** most things for remi 1100
  11. Fingers crossed mate , I've a feeling these will be spot on and at a more realistic price aswell
  12. I agree with you mate , I looked at a a400 when they came out but wasn't impressed to be honest , I no 4 people that have had them and 3 out the 4 have all been had a refund due to problems , really hope these new ones are decent . Never had an Xtrema 2 but had the Xtrema 1 for years and was bomb proof and should never have sold it
  13. Good but cheaper then , what will the going rate for them be in a gunshop About 1100 quid maybe ?
  14. Looks a decent gun them lads , fingers crossed there's no teething problems with them like the a400 extreme . Are these a similar price to the a400 ?
  15. What a great story and in sure the young lad will get goose fever before long and hopefully shoot that xbox lol

  19. Why would people pay the extra money for a maxus over an sx3,as I understood all the internals were the same .not knocking anyone just wondered what the differences were
  20. For convenience I use 28g of 3.25mm for duck , pigeons and crows but need to get something smaller for pheasants as it can be a bit sore on them . Unless there high flying ducks on tge marsh il go to 3.5mm or 3.8mm . Geese it's usually 4mm or 4.3 mm (my favourite) and occasionally 4.5mm or 4.8mm but in a 3 1/2" case but 95% of the time I stick to 3" . I'm not preaching to anyone it's just what works best for me through trial and error
  21. Yes mate steel , I use steel for everything now as was struggling switching back and forward with lead
  22. With a briley I/m (3/4) in my versa max I get 78% at 50yrds with 34gr 3" home loads normally using 4.3mm . The load has 100 pellets in it and hits very hard , although the versa max is. 3 1/2" gun I usually only use 3" as I've found they pattern a lot better
  23. Gordon is my old man , he's usually pretty full up but worth a phone call incase of any cancellations , pm me if you need a number or any more details Cheers Allan
  24. last couple of days (against my better judgement because of the shot size) i tried some express nitedral 24gr steel 7s ,and killed 50 odd pigeons with them , i was actually quite impressed,i started of with nothing over 25 yrd and it powdered them,so then tried them a bit further ,i had a briley i/m in my versa max and it worked nicely to 40 -45 yrd i didnt push it any further but these cost me £31 /250 so for birds coming in to the pattern they were very good and cheap aswell.
  25. i had a few hours at the pigeons on saturday with lead as i didnt have any light steel loaded up, and i shot terrible about 3 for 1 that night i loaded 2 boxes of 28gr 3.25mm steel and killed 39 (a lot of these were flighting and not coming in) i then went back onto lead when id run out of steel and gave up after 10 shots as i was getting no where, not sure the reason for this (maybe the extra speed of the steel) but i wont be using anything but steel from now on.after reading some of the replys on here will give 24gr a try also to make it a bit cheaper ,not used much factory steel but homeloads and a briley i/m was killing them cleanly at some very good ranges (further than i ever did with lead)
