  1. if it is not a varnished finish then oil dressing will fill the grain over time. When I get a new gun I go mad for the first couple of weeks to build the finish up.
  2. Not really of much relevance with Russian long range cruise missiles having a range of better than 3000km they could equally well have been deployed south of Greenland and still have been a credible threat unless they really wanted to target Disneyland? the story smells of electioneering by anti Obama factions
  3. I think the shot that gave me the most problems was a rare one of shooting down into a valley at a low R2L crosser there is something so foreign shooting downwards.
  4. Even expert licence Japanese master chefs get it wrong on occasion http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Fugu+Poisoning
  5. If that was a result of training they should sack the instructor- dragging a kid on a bike across the road in front of a coach ? he should have be stopped where he was minimum force, easy enough when you are twice the size of the kid the injuries for u crowd will have a field day. TBH the whole Olympic thing has been taken way too far no other country farts and faffs about like this just a bunch of wannabe celebs making a mess of the thing. I don't recall the Commonwealth Games bringing the country to a standstill?
  6. Gunsmiths have a special tool to do the job its a very quick fix for the experienced man http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=399/Product/ORIGINAL-ENGLISH-HYDRAULIC-DENT-RAISER
  7. BTW not all the older Baikals were stocked in Walnut, Beech was also used which lacks the heavier grain pattern ( I had a 20 double beech stocked ) it doesn't really dye that well.
  8. steady now don't Dis the Disco the 300TDi was the best option of the lot especially if it is a soft dash model so you get away from the ill-fitting airfix trim .I rebuilt one and afterwards it was bombproof only the heavy clutch bugged the Mrs so I had to swap for an Auto Outback. The biggest problem with landies is always lack of maintainence keep em properly oily and you are cooking with gas.
  9. you could always get a horse stable mat from your local agri supplies simple enough to cut to size and stiff enough to stay where its put. http://www.dura-tex.co.uk/stable-mats/58-rubber-stable-mat-12mm.html
  10. I've run Outbacks for the last couple of years not the quite ground clearance of the Forester though better than the std Legacy.Insanely capable on farm tracks stubble etc around 30mpg cruises at the legal limit easily If you use the 'power'button goes like a tomcat being chased for a castration, Very cheap to buy (current is an import with 80k mls cost under a grand 3 years ago) Like the Forester make sure the exhaust is in good nick pref stainless steel they are not easy to source and expect £2-300 bill for just the back box Other potential issue is the centre diff binding make sure you test it on tight lock both ways and reverse a small amount of skipping at the front end is normal at the limit, they tend to get neglected and can lock up. (I just checked ebay since the last time I looked there are cheaper back boxes according to model which is nice)
  11. I always have a tin of Mucilin line grease in my waistcoat and the Mucilin floatant that comes in the bottle with a brush the alcohol type difficult to obtain these days.
  12. +1 cheese is always a good choice mine inhale them. not a bad idea to use psycology eat some cheese yourself -make sure you know where the pill is though
  13. Not really I use an Outback and they are ideal for general farm use and sensible offroad- they have an advantage with the viscous centre diff so don't bog down in mud as much as Fronty's do and are a site more comfortable got the tank commander electric roof on the Outback with one button to open and you are good to go taking the Fronty rear roof of is more involved and if you leave home without it a ) it will rain b ) you have no security as the back is open so no nipping into the shop or alehouse with kit onboard . c ) ask any back seat passengers the fronty back seat is far from comfy. even with the roof on.
  14. what Bobba says Ensure you use a cloth that will not shed fibres old cotton shirts are my first choice. if it is a new gun take a lot of time rubbing in.Initially it will absorb a lot of oil so rub it in wait half an hour and repeat I do it three of four times witha new gun then touch up daily for the next week afterwards weekly for a month and then monthly or as required you will tell when its coming right as the surface builds a patina and a quick wipe will restore it. The old maxim for oil finishes was - once an hour for a day once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year,
  15. Well done all sounds like a grand day (apart from the weather) the kiddles will benefit greatly and of course we ( up 'ere) can look forward to a years taunting the lager 'n' lemonade sippers so results all round.
