  1. Many of the old clubs were I fired my first shots are now history but what superb memories I have of being a novice and then finding gun clubs all over the country and going from a first visit to local clubs until I got onto the circuit and found nothing but help and friendship everywhere I went.I am now 77 years old and broke 3 bones in my back last year through lifting heavy furniture whilst redecorating, this led to bouts of covid, flu, chest infections and a frightening diagnosis of severe osteoporosis but I am still hoping to pick the gun up again when the weather picks up.I am aiming to get back soon to the local clubs and the much missed comeradery.
  2. I didnt start shooting untill the late 80,s but even though I eventually shot at most grounds in the Uk Someleyton was one I never got to.
  3. The first time I shot for England Paddy was on the team. A very accomplished team member. Sad news.
  4. This is why we would have a major problem in this country.. If we need folks to fight our corner they need to be from people who love our country.
  5. I hate all the ads as they all seem to be hosted/acted by black or Asian people, it's got to the point where I wonder if I live in Africa or Asia. I personally find it insulting to our once great nation. What is really going on. From Auntie.
  6. I would also like to add to this by saying that a trap stock would be an enhancement for most lady shots as most lasses have longer necks than chaps.I shot with a couple of grade 5 mk38s for years and have to say they are a perfectly balanced gun.98% of these were shot on sporting layouts.
  7. We are all paying extra premiums to cover the uninsured drivers, which now number in the thousands and of course the extra costs to cover the electric cars even though we don't drive them. I don't even park near them anymore. If the uninsured driver gets caught he will more than likely only get fined a tenner. Who is the mug. From Auntie.
  8. Seeing toddlers on adverts being fed en mass, complete with the obligatory ear piercings. Surely if you can afford to mutilate your child with ear adornments you should be able to buy food for them. Also the total lack of taking care of your bratts when eating out at a nice restaurant, i am now a dab hand at tripping up the little princesses as they charge around other peoples tables. Nothing annoys me more than the *oh my god* cretins. From Auntie.
  9. I sailed and spent several nights on the Delta Queen on the Mississippi, 30 years ago.It was then the last overnight paddleboat steamer in the world, it was then owned by the coca cola company and every year the fire department would try to get it decommisioned. It's engines were built on the Clyde and it had seen service in the second world war as a troup ship. I sailed from Nashville down to Memphis on 4 different rivers and was a guest of the ships crew of bus boys who took me one evening to a blues club in Memphis which was well off the tourist map....The ship was brilliant and had a caliopi steam organ which the captain would play most evenings, complete with rainbow coloured bubbles coming from the organ tubes. From Auntie.
  10. The shop owner needs to have the choice of valuables from the shoplifters own home. Sorted.
  11. Living in the Yorkshire Dales we are frequently treated to lots of very low flying fighter jets some below our bungalow following the river through Wensleydale, todays was different ,two jets but they were very high and the noise was unbelievably loud. Those planes were loaded..... from Auntie.

    Iceland

Probably Puffins meat, its one of their favourites .
  13. I have been on several occassions, it is a stunningly beautiful island, I would suggest if you could to stay at one of the old quintas they are very upmarket small hotels. You will not have to join the noisy crowds on the plane as Madeira does not suffer from your norm brits abroad. The airstrip is total commitment as it has a very short runway, bonus here as the use their best pilots. Having said that ,I think they have made it easier of late.It used to be a place where rich brits wintered out and indeed Churchill was a frequent visiter and did lots of painting there. The classic hotel on the island is Reids in Funchal and I believe you can still go for tea on the terrace, and see how the other half live.l would definitely hire a car and see some of the Island it is worth driving all the way round but allow yourself a full day as it is exceedingly scenic, you will drive through waterfalls and see some amazing painted small buldinds with thatched roofs. It's where they keep the cows. The botanical gardens are exceptional as is a visit to Funchals market, fruit ,fish and meat....If you like a walk, try the town walk it starts off at the football ground in Funchal and ends, when ever you get too dizzie with the drops. The walks are mostly based on the islands irrigation system (lavadas) and there are about 350 miles of them all over the island. Some in the mountains go through tunnels with huge leather covers over the entrances.Drive up to Picos de aurio the highest pont on the island ,you could still see patchy snow this time of year, they have paved walks up there too. You will be visiting a place that still has class..... Enjoy. From Auntie.
  14. Yes, Madeira cake in this country is a rather bland sponge cake but real Madeira cake, I think is called something like pico de bols and is actually a rather scummy dark treacley, rummy concoction. From Auntie.
  15. Interesting speculations all over the press etc, but the one thing that strikes me is the lack of mention of the dogs lead, yes it is reported that the lasses phone and the dogs harness was found and that the dog was tied up, but no mention of the dogs lead. Handy hanging tool that. Maybe the local woods need a good looking at. The fact that the lass was on a group call set to mute and no sight also does not surprise me after all one wouldn't want to be seen walking the dog when working from home, would one. Having said all that I hope the lass will be found safe for all concerned.A very baffling case for the local constabulary. From Auntie.
  16. You can get better interest than that with Tesco bank, 4 .67 % over 2 years with interest paid monthly. From Auntie.
  17. I am in the CPSA and would like it left as it is. I'm also pretty thick but have never not understood what a clay pigeon is. More wokery at hand I fear. From Auntie.
  18. I think hi ho silver lining was the one recording he made that he would want to forget. Real bubble gum music. I think I will remember him best for all the blues albums he made and his amazing talking guitar.I have the pleasure of owning all his early albums. A great talented lad. From Auntie.
  19. I can't spell the resulting disease that comes with partaking in too much skunk but I'm sure you all get my drift. from Auntie.
  20. This was usually the Saturday evening after the competion day photo before the evening dinner. Uniforms are always still worn . frm Auntie.
  21. I would have immediatly gone over to them and told them to only load 2 max and then reported to the ground owner, he is the one that would be shut down if there was an accident,. From Auntie.
  22. I really can't believe some of the comments on some of the post on this thread. I have shot thousands and thousands of clays over the past 30 years and visited most of the clay grounds in the country. I don't think I am aware of any grounds, country fairs, or straw bale shoots that would allow anyone to put more than 2 cartridges in the chamber of a pump or auto so I don't know where you folks shoot that think it's ok to do so shoot but I hope I never have to see it.All the grounds I attend would swiftly remove anyone doing so Catamong says it more elequently than me but I am quite shocked to read the number on here that would find it an acceptable practice. From Auntie.
  23. Very sad news,a keen supporter of the northern numpties/southern softies charity shoots.RIP. from Auntie.
  24. Yes I too did the very deep snow walk to school in wellies and the snow was well over the tops. I recall my legs having huge red circle where my wellies chaffed. We sat on the huge painted heat pipes to try to thaw out.. Often the snow was so deep it almost engulfed us, school was never cancelled, our parents never escorted us. No one except the odd farmers had vehicles, abit different from today's entitled princesses. From Auntie.
