  1. Over the last 25-30 years almost every serious shooting incident has involved idiots who should never have been allowed near a water pistol let alone a firearm. Check out Bird (Whitehaven), Ryan (Hungerford), Hamilton (Dunblane), etc etc and there have been police failings in all cases and of course who ultimately suffers - US, the law abiding gun owners who face more and more scrutiny and restrictions. Even poor old Tony Martin, who shot one of our itinerant friends (but didn't get a reward possibly because he only injured the second) had an illegal shotgun. This is partly why I feel we should not pay a penny for our licences - if the police do their job properly and efficiently costs should be minimal. Plus the licence isn't for us but for the non-shooting members of the public so it is they who should pay!!

    Well said that man!!!

  2. Maybe, but that has nothing to do with it's proofing.

If you decide to fire steel shot cartridges through a gun that is not steel shot proofed, that is your choice, but as Kent said it needed to be reproofed as a result of the multi choking so it made perfect sense to include the steel proof at the same time,to sum it up I know now that gun can fire steel shot without taking any chances,I would never encourage any one to use any gun that is not fit for purpose

  3. I didn't think you could get a gun proofed for steel now unless you changed the chamber length or other such thing?

Mine is a 1970s aya 3" number 3,I sent it for teague choking,Then sent for steel proof, the chamber length stayed the same, and has the "fleur de leys" stamped on the barrel flats,it can now fire any factory 3inch steel load, provided you have the right choke in ,from memory it cost around £70 for proof and the teague choking depends on how many chokes you require, ask Nigel teague for a quote,The whole project, including the gun, was a little over £500,the advantage of m/c is I can tighten the choking if using "Nice shot" or "Bismuth"

  4. I purchased an AYA #3 magnum at auction, cheap, sent it for steel proof and multi choked it,and to be honest it did not come to much over your budget, can use whatever non toxic shot and choke that match .i.e 1/2 steel to full Bismuth

  5. Did the sale of "Roaring Emma" for a reputed £16k, fuel the massive price increase for big bore guns?

or have the dealers jumped on the band waggon? ok,all decent guns appreciate in value over the years if looked after, but the prices have gone through the roof of late, even the bored out 10 bore rubbish is being offered for silly money,If this continues, will these big bores languish in collectors gun cabinets instead of being used by true Wildfowlers who have seen these old guns pushed beyond their means? lets be honest ,would you wander out to the foreshore with £6k to £15k in your back pocket? I doubt that.

What is the answer for some one looking to buy a genuine big bore gun without having to pay massive profit to a modern day Highway man in the form of a gun dealer?

  6.

Yes I have , the first lasted a week before they had a hole in the sole , the second pair lasted about 6 months before they fell to bits and on both pairs the insoles fell to bits after wearing them twice

I now use Muckboots muckmasters and they are great , very warm and comfortable , if you need a zip due to large calfs the muckboots do stretch a fair bit as they are a neoprene upper so may be worth a look.

Totally agree with fenboy, jack pyke wellies are rubbish, leaked second time worn, insoles fell to bits ,waste of money,Brought a pair of hunter neoprene,,far better boot, for not much more money!!

  7. Hi, Any one got a load data for 10 gauge 2 7/8" shell, using "nice shot" fiber wad, shot cup? finished with a rto,and would be useful if the componants are readily available from clay game,I have been told that "nice shot " is a straight swap for lead but with slightly increased pressure? Dont want massive loads maybe around 36-40 gram mark in 4shot for duck and 1-2shot for a goose load, lastly a plaswad is not an option.

    Thanks

  8. The Kent wildfowlers works something like this, you apply for membership form, fill it in and return with 15 pounds..you then become an associate member....then decide what type of member you want to be.....full membership is a further 230 pounds per annum and includes BASC club membership, you are assigned a ...mentor....to assist you with any questions you might have and if you get the right one he may even take you out on the mud,They run syndicate areas.but this comes at extra cost,The permit system works like this..some areas you can book and print on line, monthly permits, and go any time during that allotted month, other areas you have to phone the permit officer, and if there are vacancies on the day you choose, then you pick up the permit from a given point,a lot of areas are governed by how many times they can be shot in a given time,You fill in a returns form when you have used the permit and this information is only seen by certain club members They have a lot of ground, some areas you can park and walk 100yds to the sea wall others can be a 2 mile or further walk,I joined 2 years ago but will not be renewing my membership, and will be looking for another club, even if it means travelling further,by all means give it a go,like i did,But if you judge a days shooting by the amount of times you pull the trigger, wildfowlings not for you.
