  3. Hi all Had a quick browse and its great to see that most of the chaps around when I was at my most active are still keeping the faith.I won,t mention names in case I miss someone but some good reading !! The site certainly has grown! Kept my shotguns but alas the rifles were sold to finance the purchase of a carbon fibre racing kayak for my eldest girl and then my youngest decided she,d give it a go and then myself and hey presto my garage is full of racing kayaks LOL....No regrets really. Anyway having recently joined a Car forum its was my oldest girl that mentioned by times spent on pidgeon watch and i thought hey why not get back in touch and wish you all a happy new year . All the best Ivan
  4. Cheers Stu ..............Why the name change In answering your question ..............NO Good job I was,nt doing it to make money as I really would be looking for a gas oven to stick my head in ........It's now worth only a little bit more in value than when I first started............Certainly no where near whats been invested
  5. Cheers Mark Only another 22 yrs to go .........or is it 23 .....24
  6. Unless tikka have reinforced the internal area on their synthetic stocks around the QD stud at the forend they can have a habit of ripping out Had to repair a couple Be careful
  7. The only drawback to the .22LR is richochet when your trying to stretch the legs of this calibre but even so its the ideal round for Rabbit .Even with good back stops its not a forfilling experience listening to the round hitting something hard in the distance so if ranges are sensible (within the capabilities of you and the rifle)this experience will be few and far between but it will happen . For what you get the HMR is very loud but the best option if the majority of shots are taken at around 100yds . Running cost should,nt come into it if its an hobbie
  8. That scope will be more than adequate The rifle is capable ,the person is capable but consistancy of rimfire factory ammo will dictate those achievements at those ranges . Try shooting 10 shot groups at only 150yds and see what I mean
  9. Agree with all thats said about judging distance at night .A lamp draws the sight picture in closer making a 80yd rabbit look like its only 50yds away and I think there lies your problem
  10. The bore guide is for centre fire ......it won't suit a rimfire The kit looks OK buts its cheap Have a look at this ,More expensive but worth the money http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/17hmr_rifles.html
  11. If I put my hmr rod down my .22 barrel it would flex all over the place doing more harm than good . . With internet shopping nowadays Rimfire magic in Yorkshire are good for kits Best of luck
  12. I purchased 100 in .223 cal .The match brass is thinner and more consistant .For target shooting or long range hunting this brass is worth paying for but for a basic hunting round I would say not .
  13. Just out of interest Ozzy which end are you inserting that bronze brush ?. Are you saying the rod in yor .22 cleaning kit will go down a .17 barrel To echo earlier advice ...........get the proper gear including a bore guide (very important )which are optional and come seperate .
  14. If you don't mind spending the cash then Nosler v-max .Try around 55grn .You might be lucky enough with the 50 grn HP American Eagle which for saying are a cheap plinking round seem to be consistant in most 223's and certainly give the noslers a run for their money in my set up. If you want serious accuracy from that rifle you might have to go heavier due to the fast twist rate . Every body has their own interpretation on accuracy
  15. I too have tinnitus in my left ear only and after 5 years of monitoring and tests the conclusion was I was born with it .Apparently tinnitus created by noise damage affects both ears not just one is what the Consultant explained to me so being a Sheetmetal worker claims for industrial deafness would be a non starter . Carry on shooting and Protect what earring you have left as I find it frustrating having to ask people to repeat themselves as I'm sure they are as much frustrated having to do so. The ringing is worst and most noticeable in a quiet room and some digital earing aids have a function to create white noise to counter act this .I can speak from experience and say the up date digital earing aids are superb and really help as they only amplify the zones where your earing is weak .The older models amplified all zones and were horrendous to use.
  16. Whoops ...........seemed to have forgotten how to upload pics Was going to show a lonesome Swan surrounded by Canadian geese Good shooting anyway Swan_pic_compressed.ppt
  17. Well I have to say The barbour dunmoor was truly a lovely Jacket to wear and at £140 it should be .Sadly though the only time I wore it on a shoot the cartridge pocket failed exposing the inner lining so I returned it back to the shop this weekend for a full cash refund . I suppose this is a case of not getting what you pay for . Jack Pyke are looking good for a third of the price
  18. YP Not that i know sod all about Deer Calibres but I would go for a .22LR for bunnies as a first rifle
  19. One underlying fact that most newbies to clay shooting need to get on board from the outset is that you need a shed load of money if your to acheive some mild form of success .I suppose a coach no matter how good would be scoring a own goal if he explanined that fact prior to taking his fee Not a family man on a limited budgets past time if your to be any good and I speak from experience .Many a time I have got my eye in on a 100 bird practice shoot only to leave it for a few weeks and then hey presto back to 50% .Issues enter your mind ,loss of confidence etc and you can soon find yourself going backwards . Having lessons from a recomended coach is good but to really benefit you need to be putting things into practice straight away and putting lead in the air on regular occasions until you acheive that sight picture .Average shell costs are £150 per 1000 and you can soon get through them .I think doveridge is 24p per clay as well Of course there are exceptions with there being one or two natural shots out there (Of which I'm not ) Apologies as I seem to have forgotten what the original thread is about lol
  20. To echo previous responses On a slow target I have gun down .Mounting too early has me looking at the bead and rifling looking for lead which leads to a miss . On those fast going away targets that don't require much swing i simply have the gun just sitting out my shoulder so leaving not much work to do in mounting . Some good advice given in this thread
  21. Well done Stuart I see you have done away with the red dot sight in favour of a scope .
  22. Thanks for the response chaps Something to chew on here
  23. Thanks for the response Are the front pockets large?
