  1. only three today!!! but am back at skl so shootin has to take back seat!!!!not a happy bunny
  2. Thanks i was so chuffed but cant wait to hopefully get my first wigeon as have never even seen one before today.!!!
  3. Went out today as the farm i work at and shoot on has got too many ducks as they have been raiding the farmers corn. out for bout an hour before i finally connected with a long drake and then decided to try a spot that i have never shot before. could hear a few on a pond over the border but with no movement i was pretty cold before the duck flighted out and as 5 approached i stood up and fired the first barrel for two of the duck to fold up desperatly swinging through another bird i was chuffed as it dropped as well. i then had another two for three shots and then sleeved the gun to watch the rest off. recken i saw bout 50 mallard and 20 wigeon off that small pond will be back there in a week or so with my dad.
  4. i shot my first snipe this season and that is definately a snipe as i have shot quite a few woodcock also. well done tho.
  5. just warmed up from being out from first light today on rape again enjoyed a good few hours sport before the rain set in and all pigeon stopped. got 50 but still plenty there for another day and enjoyed some really difficult shots, few quality shots are usually better then the volume of easy ones. oh and a goose!!!!
  6. The birds could be finding enough ivy berries in the woods to keep themselves busy.
  7. personally use AAhunter in .22 and although they are slightly pointed they seem to be soft enough to transfer plenty of knock down energy. still go for the head tho.
  8. can anyone out there vouch for an daystate harruer sub 12ftlbs air rifle
  9. i wud go for a .22 as my airarms s410 carbine in .22 is deadly my last 14 shots have all been pigeon and squirrel 1shot kills all head shot between 10 and 50 yards.
  10. flapper was just on the inside of one of the groups and was around 2.5ft off the ground rotary was about 25 yards to the left of the head of the pattern so that it brought them in close enough to see the pattern but they then looked for a spot to land instead of concentrating on the rotary which causes them to flare off and the bouncer was at the back and to one side of the kill zone to show 'em the way in but sos they didnt have to fly over it
  11. Lung pattern= two larg groups of decoys wider in the middle of the group than at the ends and the two groups should be parallell to each other about 15-20yds apart. then at the leading edge the two groups(the lungs if u like as they are kinda the same shape) should be joined by just a thgin line of decoys only 1 or 2 birds thick. hope this helps a little!!!
  12. Has anyone noticed or shotover clover in grass fields yet as last time i checked there was loads of really young clover about.
  13. started with around 50 decoys in a lung pattern with a plastic floater on the left side of the left lung, added an electronic flapper which they really liked then later in the day as they got a tad spooky threw the sillosock rotary at them to give more movement as well as adding all shot birds, some on stakes some not, to the right hand side of the pattern.Job done.
  14. set up for around 8.00 to start shootin.
  15. got another 50 over a rape field today was very pleased to get them before 1 and was away by 1:45! a lot were comin into the sitty trees but using the pattern that i got from tipsandtricks forum definately drew them in. just took them off to the dealer and got me money!!!!!
  16. out today for a few hours with a mate but was dissappointed to not see as many as i thought only shot 27!!!
  17. thanks lez will probably start with this then and see how it goes. will post my results on talk from the field if my results are worthy!!!
  18. What patterns are you having success with over rape at the moment as am out again sunday on a field of rape that is a block of 5 and am going to try and bag off the other favourite field and was wonderin wat is the best way to bag off a field and also if there was a pattern that is really working over rape. I have 1 whirly a flapper 2 floaters and around 40 mixed deeks?? I tried the standard whirly headed U last time with little success and just thought there might be a better starting pattern from which to start the day with so many deeks.
  19. is there any way that i can store shot birds to then sell to the dealer a few days later as i need to shoot around 50 to make it worthwhile and so if i got 20 is there a way to keep them fresh and then add them to another bag?
  20. i would have said that they are likely to start moving a bit earlier due to the cold if it is bitter and so personally would be set up for first light. however in my experience if it is a sunny frosty morning they may just sit in trees to warm up a bit then feed like hell. bearing this in mind i would try to set up within range of sitty trees if poss but apart fromn that its up to you.
  21. what do you guys average on a roost shoot??? also what cartridges do you use for decoying or roost shooting?
