  1. This sounds pretty decent then. Thanks for letting me know about this one. Can just anyone turn up? How much is a round at this one?
  2. Yes you have a point got to be worth it really! Would definitely need to get my eye in before anyone I know sees me shoot! Hahaha but that is good-got a couple mates might fancy a go so could be a useful place!
  3. good to know. Do most of these shoots require shooters to have insurance (basc or cpsa membership etc)? Appreciating the help mate.
  4. Nice one mate, I will have to try and get up there one time soon, might not be able to do the next one as got other commitments but yeah thats not too far. Thanks the reply bud Can you use plastic wads there?
  5. Its a mitsubishi, its a 4x4, I go shooting in it, no way in hell im taking it across a field!
  6. Haven't been doing any real shooting in a couple years now and fancy change of sport and to try hopefully competing in clay shooting. my question is do any of you know of any decent clay clubs/comp venues in Buckinghamshire, im from aylesbury? And what is the best way to get into clay shooting? Done a few rounds in the past but was always more into pigeon and game shooting hence I don't know where to start! Any help would be great.
  7. Well rain stayed away yesterday and i made a bag of 126 pigeons and 27corvids so was pleased to say the least!
  8. I'll be shooting today. Rain does seem to be holding off for the moment and as i havent done any proper shooting in over a year i am eager to get out on some barley stubble the birds seem interested in. Its just whether i remember which way to point the gun!!
  9. A cheap and effective (i find) way to decoy crows is 1. find some way of concealing yourself- a hide or bales to hide in. 2. as for decoys get hold of some black plastic bale wrap that farmers use for silage bales, separate tgis out so you are left with relatively thin black wrap and cut into triangles about 35cm in length. 3. attach the bale wrap triangles to sticks or stakes of around 30cm in length in such a way as they have the upside down triangle shape that a crow roughly has. 4. put these "decoys" in the ground in a lung shape pattern (two larger groups with a gap in the middle) with the furthes edge of the pattern around 35 yards max from your hide, the nearest edge around 10-15yards and consisting of at least 25 "decoys" in total. 5. get in your hide and load up, i find crows will inevitably float over or even commit to this tactic providing often easy shots at around 20 yards, also they will be very preoccupied looking at the pattern you should have plenty of time to take the shot. days with a bit of wind will be best as the bale wrap will be light enough to be moved by the wind helping the overall appearance of the "feeding flock". in addition add shot crows to the pattern at the edge that most crows are approaching first and on the inside edges of the pattern to make it even more irresistible, add floaters/bouncers and flappers if you want they can all be very effective on crows. If its magpies you are trying to get to terms with, baiting an area with dog food stamped into the ground, or an opened up rabbit carcass can be good, decoy owl in a hedge or on a field, or larsen traps in spring/summer. Phew......hope some of this will help either with this problem or in the future. haha. let us know how you get on.
  10. this was my final result last season, I had been trying to get that white duck all season and finally managed to drop it with my last shot of the day!! only a bit late puttin this up.
  11. is this gun still for sale? if so where abouts are u in the world and would u sell the gun without the scope??
  12. roost shooting the other week dad said he dropped two pigeon went to pick one up and it had fallen within 6ft of a fox hole and low and behold there was foxy pigeon in mouth-he gave it both barrels and retrieved the pigeon and fox!!!
  13. the worst shot ive ever seen.....completely missed him!!! :yp:
  14. just got back from walking my 10 month black lab purdey around the same fields we always walk. i allow her to do a bit of hunting as she is a rough shooting dog. anyway part way along this hedge she spun round not 10yards from me and dived into the hedge, a sure sign of there being game in there, next she backed out of the hedge and brought me a perfectly healthy woodcock!!! i havent even shot one this year yet so she has never even seen one!! needless to say i collected the bird checked it over quickly then released it and it flew off unharmed....maybe i would do better to leave the gun at home on shoot days!!!
  15. friday evening saw me out flighting ducks between inland waters. an uneventfull start preceeded a short lived flight with moderate success due to shocking marksmanship on my behalf  . oh well!! saturday evening and i took my dad down the wood to have a go at the pigeons. really good sport with both of us shooting not too poorly we managed to bag just over 50 birds. Sunday and me and my ytoung dog were out on the drilling to put another 70 birds in the bag. not bad but i forgot to get a pic of the pigeon not sure how i managed that!!!
  16. good lookin pup and compliments on her name i bought a black lab pup earlier in the year and called her purdey, all i keep gettin told is that purdey is the name of the dalmation on 101 dalmations!!!
  17. always wondered which would come off worse a pigeon or a citroen...that settles it!
  18. saw a program with some guy doin this before but with high powered pistol round and it is real he had two bits of glass but was higher energy round and he explaind that the glass does actually slow the bullet down enoughto catch but if those bullets go through a tin can then i dont see as to how tht is slow enough to catch never mind in my mouth!?!
  19. not to start anything but when i first started shootin as a young kid i remember firing about 150 cartridges before even connecting with a pigeon. However i was hooked on shooting and just wanted to improve now if decoying and i dont end the day with at least one:2.5 i am shooting badly and i have only shot clays a couple of times, this is just me saying facts not putting any opinion! cheers
  20. i found the birds round me yesterday i shot 130 in 5 hours starting at 2pm-late drilled barley been left for 10days. some of the fastest pigeon shooting i have ever had!!
  21. whilst i wudnt shoot them at this time of year and dont anyway as there arent enough round me i would have full confidence in my non FAC aa s410 in .22 to kill a hare at 50yds. it really is about the placement of the pellet/bullet no matter of calibre or type.i will regularly and consistently take out rabbits up to 60 yards with clean head shots the same for pigeons. i am not boasting and do not want any aggro. but these are facts make of them what u will!!
  22. then come june flat/laid corn if there are some storms then stubbles then drillings then rape and so the cycle repeats. Always be on the lookout as the birds could just find something u may otherwise overlook, for example two years ago about 3 weeks from harvest i shot a 100+ bag on a poor field of standing beans, only knew the birds where there by walking round airgunning rabbits! as already said u may get some sport on the rape still or clover or even **** heaps. them muck heaps are a draw for the birds on warmer sunnier days, also if u have a good water source it can be possible to get a good flighting shoot at birds on warm days coming in to drink etc, just keep an eye out.
  23. shot 80 on top dressed rape. not sure quite which numbers of yickdaz needs adding to the total??
  24. Well done mate. isnt that lamb a tad big for a fox to kill?? don't really know but have only heard of them taking really young lambs i.e. very small. maybe it was dead and he picked it up?? either way that fox had a taste for lamb and you have stopped it, good shot.
  25. that must/would take some doin fair 'nuff if this is real!
