  1. How much shot and what size can something like this have, maybe good for rats in a barn
  2. I was not really thinking of bespoke stocks but just copies of the more popular guns like 686 or 524 models.where the basic wood is so plain and similar guns from Italy or Turkey have much better wood. As you say you can get bespoke done at much higher cost, but if for instance you want to upgrade a silver pigeon you seem to be stuck unless you sell the gun and spend a lot more dosh
  3. what a sad statement, but probably very true I don't agree with the lack of need, I imagine many would be happy to spend £400-500 for up graded wood on their most used gun unless its got it already
  4. You can buy nearly everything on the internet, except it seems replacement woodwork for your shotgun By that i mean, why can you not find anyone selling ready made wood work for the main shotgun makes, you would have thought there would be a great market for upgarded stocks, etc ready made for upgrading your loved gun There may or may not be much trimming to fit perfectly, but i imagine that the factories who turn out the stocks make them all very acuratly so no extra work need s doing There are plenty of small companies who will sell blanks or even make them up for you but as one off's at greatly increased cost Many must buy a grade 1 or 2 gun at their limit of expence at that time and a few years later feel it would be nice to get better wood Is this a deliberate ploy by makers to make you by their higher grade guns
  5. I would say it depends entirly on if you have the old steel barrels or the more modern Chrome ones, Crome is very forgiving and very hard to damage whilst Browning steel on older guns will rust at the first chance so need a layer of oil after cleaning Some clean there car after every trip, check tyre pressures and oil and water etc others just drive it and check the rest at the next service. Modern machinery will take a lot of use without any problems unless abused, so whats good for one person is not always good for every one Funny how a Name plate from a 2 world war spitfire and a old joystick turns a new built aircraft a very expensive WW2 aircraft but a resleeved shotgun lowers its price
  6. The best way to value second hand cars is via auction prices, which is what most magazines use Is there a list of auction prices for used shotguns of the popular types say guns made in last 20 years we could use as this question of resale value often crops up "by this or That because" and so on The problem with adverts is that they only show the asking price not what was paid and shop sales would tend to be exchanging goods which again leaves lots of room to vary the price like taking a % of the new slow moving gun and giving it on the old gun to make it look good
  7. Do you really think that after making shotguns for a hundred odd years that any make these days will not last a lifetime As mentioned above a Sub £1000 gun will lose money over the years but looking at gun trader so will many Big Makes guns over £1600 new and going by many guns held on here, it seems few change guns very often You pay the money and probably get a better gun but that's also the same from a basic Big Make to their next range of guns after all you would not compare a silver pigeon to a DT11 Just buy what you like and enjoy, also check how good the back up service is, as some makes seem to take months to get sorted, from the big makes if something is wrong and needs returning going by reports on this forum
  8. Phoned them yesterday afternoon about 3pm Arrived today first class post by 9am What more can i say
  9. I lost my Yildiz 410 Choke Key After search on Google found Entwistle guns who import and sell the range Made a phone call and asked if they sold replacements just a notched piece of metal The person who answered took my name and address ans said he would post one out to me "No Charge" Now thats what i call service, if they look after the small sales i have no doubt thay will give great service whatever they sell Many thanks if you read this
  10. Great buy, gun not yet made for a few decades, (2097) you low price, great investment
  11. Regarding fit for purpose I brought a new Land rover freelander 2 in June 2010 In may just coming up to 50,000 miles there was a whine from the rear diff Took it to the dealers who confirmed it was rear diff but would do nothing if i did not pay £770 for repair Looked on web and found out LR changed the diff about 3 months after i brought the car, told dealer this but refused to do anything Contacted Trading standards who gave me a letter and sent it off to dealer & LR as obviously unfit for purpose when brought Land Rover accepted and fix for free Trading standards said 6 years was reasonable maximum period for this so scrapped in with one month to spare Very strong law , time period seems to be dependent on price and expected life of product, Refund is only a relatively short time but repair or exchange for longer period
  12. I brought mine in 2010 and its been fine until a few months ago when the diff started to wine, Looked it up on the web and found they changed the diff a month or so after i brought it and plenty of complaints about rear diff. I contacted Land Rover and complained unfit for purpose when they sold me the car ( tough in cheek after 6 years) they replaced it for free, it's a keeper till i push up the daisy's 7 Years shooting see no point in changing gun low cost one; as like the landy it does its job and doubt my skill would improve with a better gun
  13. I would say different go for a cheap 28 gauge, just as light in weight as 410 but gives a far better choice of cartridge and will always be a handy gun when she grows up Yildis make a nice 28g gun that should last her a lifetime if you keep the cut off stock to attach later
  14. always been a land rover man myself. but think you have to remove the Freelander 1, 1.8ltr petrol as one that did not go up in value
  15. The forum always has a statement like" x brands are great value they never lose any money when sold years later" and so on Do the gun owners ever consider the cars they buy, and how they relate to seconhand prices further down the line, especialy when car prices are often many time the shotguns value New car say £20,000 next day worth a good few thousand less
  16. At the end of the day its a piece of paper stating you can shoot on that land that would appear in court and is easily obtained if you ask, if unable to provide that bit of papaer then a court would have to decide if you were given permission legally or no and verbal is not always proof
  17. is it a forgery as that is a big mistake
  18. I had a Remington auto 410 great fun gun and no kickback, Maybe a 28 gauge could be a good answer to those who have this sort of problem great fun and good size load just a pity about the cartridge costs
  19. For many clay shoots just put in skeet / skeet and you will get 99% of clays Before removable chokes came in i would guess most guns with fixed choke were 1/4 and a 1/2 or 1/4 and 3/4 for field use Its easy to become a choke changer at every stand, but most leave whatever they have in and shoot it all the time and if you do the same with Cartridges you know its only you if you miss
  20. Most modern guns have crome lined barrels so rather a pointless thing to do, maybe some very old 20-40 years old barrels it may make a difference
  21. All this over a gun which will most likely stay in the gun safe for 50 weeks of the year and only come out for a couple of shoots to impress clients
  22. I never realised you could break down a muzzle loader just assumed they were all one piece, How is the barrel locked on to the wood?
  23. for safety is it worth re proofing it
