  1. Sitting on the bog watching this lol. Thought I could hear a buzzard mewing at around 2mins in but realised it is out behind the house as the windows open. Well put together video again and some nice shooting and dog work.

Is that Rathlin just off the coast.?

    Thanks for watching.

That's the mull of kintyre across the sea, it's about 15 mile across the Irish Sea from us. Rathlin is further north off ballycastle.

  2. I saw this on YouTube (as a Subscriber) and forgot to comment on this thread.

Another good extreme workout video, very watchable. :good:

You and your dogs must be super fit, I get worn out just watching.

Must be the only Shoot I know of that need a dinghy for the picker-ups. :)

Pickers up in dinghys in the bay would be handy lol.

We are starting to do the prep for next season now.

  3. Great as always Ollie - really lovely weather too. Is it always that sunny in the glens?

You really need a lab for those water retrieves, but then im q bit biased!

I know mine would love all the water work.

    Thanks for posting.

To be honest we never have as many water retrieves as we had this year, maybe one or two a season normally. The issue with labs is that the cover is extremely tight in our place & although I know some labs will hunt it, it's probably more suited to the spaniels.

The cocker tries his best with the water retrieves but I sent him on one this year & headed to one of the fisher buoys, I called him back but I thought he wasn't going to make it back. He's not the best swimmer!!!

  4. That was good stuff as usual, well done and thanks for sharing.

    Thanks mate

Nice Ollie! Just one observation,Any bird that crashes down onto them rocks on the shore must take a fair auld bruising given the height they fall from

Ref- Cara Dillon' I used to get My baps and sausage rolls of her in the mornings when she worked in a bakery yrs ago when we worked in the North. She inquired as to who I was to a couple of the younger labourers but I was way to shy to make a move.lol Shd used to get some "Wolf whistling" when she passed the Job we were working on. She was fine and she had a beautiful voice.

Thankfully not many of the birds hit the rocks. On occasions when they have it bursts the breast on them.

    Good story about Cara 😂

  5. Is that the ancient land of the McDonnell's?

It is, in fact one the syndicate members is a McDonnell lol

Lovely again Ollie. Some cracker shots there. I liked the Caravan Dilton at the end. I have that album and it's a good one.

I'm quite fond of cara too. I've a couple more rough shooting videos & 1 more syndicate video to make and then I'll finally be caught up.

Some cracking shooting and more of that great scenery, I never get tired of that.

You should get a grant from the Tourist Board. :good:

Thanks cranfield, a wee grant would be nice, can you imagine the uproar in getting a grant for shooting ha ha.

  6. Agree absolutely Ollie. Re read what I wrote and it did sound a bit harsh BUT if you watch any of these go pro videos of shooting, it is very difficult not to have this problem and I am sure he realised that as soon as he reviewed it. I cannot se any way around it. By the nature of what you are doing, your head is swinging from side to side looking for birds.

A barrel mounted camera with a thumb operated switch to use as you mount the gun might work. Not easy at all. The main thing was he enjoyed his day.

I make videos with a head cam too & it is difficult sometimes to concentrate on shooting & the camera; however, I think we are lucky in this day & age that we have all this technology to make videos that we wouldn't have had 10 years ago.

  7. Yep, stopped looking after a couple of minutes as the constant movement got me dizzy, but all these Go Pro videos are the same unfortunately, recording the slightest movement and of course if your shooting your constantly scanning the sky.

I hate all that noise from beaters, totally unnecessary if the keeper knows his job. The same as shouting between guns.

That apart, pleased you enjoyed your day. Richard does do his best to set things up right.

What's that long piece of whatever on the muzzle of your shotgun? Not referring to the extended choke .. looks like some sighting set up.

Give the lad a break, it's his first video & I think sometimes people are very quick to judge without appreciating the time & effort that goes into making & editing the videos.

The beaters sounded like a Native American tribe at one point lol, but the original poster could hardly do anything about that.

    Keep the videos coming fella!!!

  8. As entertaining as ever, thanks for posting.

The thought crossed my mind , "if the devil should cast his net" , when I saw the group photo at the end, a motley crew indeed. :)

Do you breed and release birds, that Michigan Blueback looked fine.

We don't breed the birds Cranfield, normally buy poults at 6-8 weeks old around the start of August. The Michigan is one of last years birds, we didn't have any bluebacks in this years birds.

  9. These video's are not so easy. Thx for making the effort looks like a great day out. Something on tonight about declining woodcock over here. :unhappy:

It's so difficult unless they reach the skyline its sometime difficult to make them out, especially with the speed of the birds. The decline seems to be on the resident population, a lot of that I would put down to loss of habitat; I used to have some of great marshy ground for woodcock but the farmers are removing cover & draining ground. This is pushing some of the birds into blocks of forestry which makes them difficult to count.

Another great offering, good to see the dogs and some sharp shooting. :good:

Thanks for watching as always Cranfield.

Such beautiful coutryside with the water in the distance. You guys are so quick on these birds-esp. the snipe! I would be standing there with my mouth open & too late to shoot?Savour what you have there. Thanks for sharing.I think the dogs have as much fun as you by the way.

You always need to be prepared when woodcock shooting, especially is you are doing ditches as they quite often dip over the ditch before you get a shot. We are very lucky with what we have here and we are always mindful not to overshoot the wild bird. We could have shot more this day but we let some of them fly on. Dogs love it, that's what they live for.

  10. What county was that in some fine weather their lads

We are in County Antrim on the coast.

Good shooting Ollie. Unbelievable blue skies in December. Great ground you have to shoot over.

Thanks Al. The weather has been unreal this Winter, not always the crisp days I enjoy but the sun has been shining more than not.

Very good shooting Ollie, we've had a fantastic woodcock season here in north wales big numbers of woodcock around with good shooting weather for a change, that was a great video I really enjoyed that thank you.

It's been a better season for woodcock this year than last year that is for sure. Thanks for watching.

  11. Some more woodcock/rough shooting from Ireland. This was recorded on the 17th December 2016.

We seemed to come on a fall of birds that had arrived in with the recent full moon. We flushed 21 woodcock, 10 of which made it into the bag along with 1 snipe & 1 pheasant.

Apologies about all the slow motions, however, it is sometimes quite difficult to pick up the birds without slow motion shots.

    Thanks for watching

  12. Another most enjoyable watch, blue skies, sun, sea dead calm, that looked more like August than December.

Your dogs all work well and hard, I don't think you could shoot that land without a good dog. :good:

Been very lucky with the weather this season!!! Definitely couldn't do it without a trusty companion, thanks again for your kind words.

  13. Another video out on the Pheasant Syndicate. This one is from Boxing Day, so after loads of turkey & wine on Christmas Day the shooting wasn't great.

Was a really great day weather wise but the sun constantly proved a hindrance with it in my eyes and also shining off the sea.

I hope you all enjoy, plenty more videos to follow!!!
