  1. Thanks BD! I am still looking so will bear this in mind. Still simpler to get a one off European breakdown cover I think, but there are some decent sounding perks...

I do! PM me if you like...
  4. Thank you. As I remember they were one of the pricier options, but possibly worth it for peace of mind.
  5. PlantNet works well for me, or Google Lens is worth a try, and may be on your phone already. It does sometimes assume US species though.
  6. Thanks for the thoughts, all. I'll try and answer them one by one. There's already a barbed strand along the top of the fence, the horses don't care! I could add timber, but to make it strong enough and tall enough to deter them would cost more than electric fencing, I suspect. When the previous owners of our house bought the paddock from the neighbours, they took on the fencing liability, but didn't actually fence it -so we inherited the issue. I've mentioned it to the owners before, they've never shown any inclination to help besides saying I can put up an elec fence if I want. Having said that, they had a diffeent manager at the time so probably worth asking again. They have no money! And I'm trying to keep them sweetish, at least - they can be useful sometimes. I've not planted anything poisonous there, but don't know what might grow there... I'll mention this, and can't hurt to contact them again, see if they have a fence I can borrow. As above, I'm trying to be decent about it so we can maintain decent relationships. I've planted willow, eucalyptus, elder, alder, poplar, fruit trees... No sycamore that I've put in myself, but we do have sycamore and laburnum around - both of which are poisonous to horses I think. As above, I fear the previous owners of our house took on the fencing liability. I will ask again and hope to get a more positive response. Will do, thanks.
  7. Thanks, but my bank doesn't include that, and I think I'd rather get specific euro breakdown cover than a new bank account that includes it...
  8. Thanks. It's actually a decent sized paddock with plenty of grass and interesting plants and trees to eat. But I suppose the grass is greener on my side! Owner isn't bothered, but did say I could put an elec fence up at my cost if I wanted to. Was hoping to avoid that if possible, but may have to. Can't do that, as I want them just behind the fence as a windbreak. I suppose the willows will coppice and survive.
  9. Hi folks I've planted some willow, poplar etc. saplings around my fence. Recently the owner of the neighbouring paddock (hur) has put a couple of horses in it, and they've started leaning over the fence and eating the grass and my saplings. They're not bothered by the top strand of barbed wire at all. I suppose I could get an electric fence and put a strand outside the wire, but I'm hoping there's a cheaper / easier / less stealable way to deter them... Any ideas? Thanks.
  10. Hi all I'll be driving to and through France and Jersey later this year. I wonder if anyone can recommend a good European breakdown cover provider? I've been looking at eurorescue.co.uk (linked to autoaid, my UK breakdown cover people who are generally fairly good), but I've asked a couple of questions about cover and the responses have been non-existent or pretty useless. Doesn't matter so much if they're good at recovery and pay out when needed I suppose, but doesn't necessarily inspire confidence in the early stages. Anyone got a tried and tested recommendation? My car is over 10 years old if that makes a difference - most places seem to cover it but charge more! Thanks.
  11. Thank you, appreciate it. I work full time so will need a bit of notice to book the day off. Thursdays or Fridays generally good for me if they suit you? No rush, happy to wait till the weather warms up and the trout are hungry! My wrist is recovering from surgery anyway, so possibly the longer the better. Let me know, and thanks again for the offer.
  12. Do you know what, maybe it's not too far from me! If you'll have me OPP I'd love to make the trip, if we can make it work?
  13. Skoda Octavia Scout estate 2.0TDI here. Not much offroading, but it's competent when needed, and that's on road tyres. Skoda garages are expensive, and Skoka were pretty **** about the whole emissions fixing scandal - so not sure I'd have another. But generally, I like it!
  14. That reminds me, I need to trim my roses. They're growing into the neighbour's roof!
  15. I liked the old Fast Show a lot, but am not sure it would work now, with them all old, as a live show? Could be wrong, of course!
  16. Thanks, nice find. I enjoyed the books.
  17. Thanks for the continued input, UOR. Will have a look at CES / helptoheat.
  18. Thanks folks. One more question, please. Someone said if you go for it, you have to have everything they offer - I don't want this, I need to be able to pick and choose. Does anyone know if it's all or nothing? Maybe it varies by supplier. If anyone is able to recommend a supplier, ideally in the South Wales / Bristol area that would be useful?
  19. Thanks folks - food for thought. More loft insulation might be useful, but it's not too expensive to DIY. I'd like solar and battery, but I don't think they supply batteries, just solar panels. Internal wall insulation might be worth doing, but massive upheaval, and would probably increase damp. Hmm. Plus the faff of finding a decent installer, not a government-funding-hoover cowboy... Maybe it's not worth it.
  20. Hi folks Anyone had anything done to their houses under the above? I keep getting offers through the post for it, seeing ads on the internet etc. Seems to me that the suppliers are very keen to get me to sign up for something - presumably as they (the supplier) can then rake in government money while doing an overpriced sub-standard job! Am I being unfair, is it worth looking into further? Our house is old, cold stone - not suitable for cavity wall insulation, and I don't want a heat pump. Oil boiler was new in 2017 I think. Oh, and we only receive child benefit, so may not be eligible for much anyway... Thanks.
  21. Unfortunately my helicopter is being fixed at the moment 😕
  22. Huh, I thought copper strips were an urban legend! Maybe I'll see if I can try a bit somewhere within reach. Like Discobob, I fear falling off our roofs, and they're quite high! So spraying would be easier if I can find something that works...
  23. I'm told that doesn't actually work? In any case, I can't get to the ridge, I'll be spraying from a window!
  24. Hi folks We have quite a lot of moss on our roof. In the past I've sprayed it with some recommended moss killer from a DIY shed which didn't seem to do much. Can anyone recommend a good moss killer that will actually kill the moss, and ideally stop it coming back for a while? Thanks.
