  1. Couldn't agree more, but we are supposedly overun with deer as well but try telling that to people who want to charge you 65 quid for walk round a field with none in it!!
  2. Thanks for the link Graham, as I am not intending to do any long range stuff, it seems that 1 in 12 will be fine, just means I am better sticking to the lighter loads. Incidently, my new FLO wants to meet me as we haven't met yet so he is coming round on Monday 12th, leaving it a bit tight to get my variation in time for the Midland GF on Saturday :*) we shall see.....
  3. Maybe your ruler has a bit missing off the end Seriously don't know, I would guess the figure quoted is the max, anything under doesn't matter, anything over would be a problem. Let's see what the experts say...
  4. But in all fairness you are probably a reasonable shot, so you could have done that with or without those chokes. It's all about confidence if you feel they work for you, then they do, it's that simple....
  5. I was going to refer you to Richard Faulds site, but it is off the air at the moment. it's: www.richardfaulds.com check back in a while... There aren't any pictures here to help but soem good words from the master himself: http://www.clay-shooting.com/drdigweed/askdigweed.htm As stated above, how long your FLO takes to get round to you depends on where you live. Mine is lightning quick, but that is very unusual. For example they took 4 days for my FAC to be made open, from posting to getting it back to my house, under a week to get the FAC once he had been round (for which I only had to wait a week in the first place)
  6. I have heard a lot about twist rates, bullet weights and barrel lengths to do with .223's. Can someone clear up what the pro's and con's are please??
  7. I have drunk Guinness in Northern and Southern Ireland and it tastes no different to the stuff they sell anywhere else, sorry about that. I appreciate it is Ireland's best invisable export and they have to promote it hard, but it is all in the mind (nothing wrong with that of course) - the flavour has more to do with the way it is kept.
  8. 'ALL the kit, shoot like ****' I think is the expression
  9. Try these boys for your cartridges, not sure about the delivery to Scotland though http://www.justcartridges.com/
  10. Frank, I am looking to get a BRNO .223 later this month (maybe at the Midland if my variation gets sorted in time) so I be will interested in any updates to this thread. Which model did you go for? Got any pics?

    FILM ON BBC1

It is a good film I have taped (disked?) it to watch tonight. Hopefully I can freeze frame on Racheal Weiss's bum shot
  12. I bought 3 last week they were £9.90 each delivered, that is for a one day pass Saturday only. Maybe you you were looking to go for the weekend?
  13. My parents gave me mine
  14. Here it is again... Midland Game Fair
  15. If you look closely it even has your name on it, it's magic!
  16. Have a look: http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/ Cross forum linking, tut tut....
  17. Haven't done it myself but they look very easy to shorten. Some semi's come with spacers to allow you add stock length, so shortening the stock should just the opposite - if you see what I mean! The only danger would be reducing the drop at heel, so you would have to be carefull.
  18. I was given one of those 'magic' stainless steel bars they work a treat! Anyone who wears contact lenses will know about the pain of putting a finger into your eye after handling chilli's even after a good scrubbing with soap. Use one of those bars and you are fine. They sell them in most large hardware shops.
  19. Axe, I will try and come up with some words of wisdom. There are 2 categories we need to consider when applying for permission for land, normal folk - i.e. farmers etc, and corporates. I too want get permission from our local water board and also Lafarge Aggregates. A very careful approach will need to be adopted with any organisation as they are paranoid about potential injuries and the ramifications - so if anyone has had any success maybe they can share their experiences? You can drop Southern Water a mail here, just to get to the right department, without being too specific about your needs, and then take it from there: customerservices@southernwater.co.uk Once you get to the right person I would definitely use the approach that 'their' problem is causing your current landowner a problem and that you can help them out. The duty of care to surrounding landowners is good tack to use. Let us know how you get on...
  20. Warcop, Looks like a top bit of kit, can I ask why you are moving away from it?
  21. I will going on the Saturday, and will take the shotgun with me JIC. I have the shot the Midland before and it was hard the the point of being funny! but they were being hi so it wasn't impossible. Last years layout (which I didn't shoot) looked very fair indeed, not toooo much queueing either. It is always worth a go at these game fair shoots, don't get dispondant if you don't hit many just be happy about the one you do hit. I won my class, and £15 at the West Country one, and I would be the first to admit I ain't no pro!! I find a cople of ciders beforehand makes all the difference. Hopefully my .223 variation will have come through by then so I will be shopping, if not I will help my mate get a good deal on a .22lr, and then maybe go on to Minsterley after to zero it up
  22. Here is the mark, bit blurred but you can see it just above the chequering...
  23. Genuine Tikka M695 (long action) Grey Laminate stock - right handed. Hardly used, very slight marking on the grip/chequering as in the picture below. I am only selling as it a bit too heavy to lug up hills all day long in the highlands (I have enought trouble getting up them myself :*) ) £100 - no offers I am afraid, I need the cash to buy a nice Hogue or McMillan. BTW I know after market prices are a bit of a joke, but these are £405 new from GMK.
  24. I have seen a few requests on here for people to post an example of letter requesting shooting permission. Wouldn't it be a good idea to come up with a 'template' for letter that we can all agree has the right words in it? this can then me tailored to suit each request. What does anyone else think?
